His tally was 27 destroyed, 7 shared destroyed and 2 unconfirmed, 3 probables and 16 damaged. After the war, Malan became leader of the Torch Commando, a liberal anti-authoritarian organisation that opposed the introduction of the apartheid system. He completed flight training with Class 42-H, Tuskegee Army Air Field. He joined the 99th Fighter Squadron in Licata, Sicily and began flying P-40s in combat. Perry logged 145 combat missions and scored two and one half aerial victories. Henry Perry was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with six Oak Leaf Clusters.
