Advance And Secure (Planes And Tanks)

Hello,

following a concept that was popular in the arma series, I developed a PvP mission where you need to progress along a line by taking flags.
The Tanks role is to advance and take the flags. If a team takes the last flag of the line, it wins.
The planes role is:
- CAS: destroy the ennemy tanks or defense lines
- Level bombing: destroy the ennemy factory to stop heavy tank reinforcements
- Cover the bombers

I will launch a test on sunday 4PM UTC+2 (Paris time). You are free to join the server named "Advance And Secure".
SRS will be activated. French speaking lads can join our discord server (PM me if interested).
If the concept gets popular I will set up a permanent server with a mission rotation.

Do tankers get to take AA support? I doubt tankers will find it fun to be targets for aircraft. Especially since it is unusual historically for aircraft to take tanks out permanently with rockets or bombs. Let alone cannon. The problem would be getting ai to follow player tanks after they spawn and then follow orders not to fire at aircraft or to fire as the player allowed.

At the moment there are three game mechanics to avoid being killed too much by aircrafts:
-  AAA on strong points along the flag line (meaning more protection when defending than attacking though)
- Forests close to the typical path tanks will follow and expert mode for the server so no visible player name/distance above you (possibility to hide efficiently)
- Straight mission path, meaning aircrafts will tend to focus on a limited area and you should get typically  less liberty for CAS planes to make several pass on you without being engaged by fighters.
If it is not enough I can still put mobile AAA moving to the next flag along tanks (but they won't follow if you take a flanking path for instance). I could also limit weapons for CAS 
airplanes but I do not like to limit too much the possibilities.

It's unlikely we get something like this, we need to wait for the playable flak tanks! Something could be hacked using complex triggers in a grid system to call AI flak tanks using flares, but I need to think of a logical game mechanic to allow this. But even without that, a proper balancing of weapons might be enough

Thanks for those who came, we were 12 at peak, it was fun. I will modify some minor details according  to the feedback I got and will probably launch a permanent server in a week or so. I will advertise it on the main "Multiplayer Servers and Hosting" sub forum.

Hello,
the server is up and will be in testing mode for a while. The server name is : Advance And Secure (Planes and Tanks)  - IL-2 FR 
Feel free to report bugs or give feedback. 
Once everything is working and balanced properly, I will make several missions to set a rotation.

To try to balance, so far I allowed only one panther, one tiger and one ferdinand each 30 minutes at the german flags. 
Russians have 5 KV1s and 3 ISU 152. The other tanks type are unlimited.
This will likely change in the future. Feel free to share your opinion for that matter

Hello super. Could you disable the external view please? It's a major drawback! Otherwise the map looks fun! But the external views ruin the gameplay.  By pressing F11 you can fly around the map and spot other player's positions, artillery positions  etc.

Sorry, I did not get any notifications for the topic messages.
@RIVALDO thanks did not notice that! @skpcarey1 yes but very slow, covid had some bad impact on my business and I had to fix it with rubberbands to survive  😅
I fixed most of the important problems of the mission though and I am trying to stabilise a good template so that I can create quickly some new maps using the same base template.
I Will probably do a big MP test soon.

We were 20 players at peak and 13 a fair bit of the evening. Thanks for coming. I know there was some problems with performances because of AI. The server I was supposed to use did not work and I had to use a less performant one. I will reduce the number of AI. The mission time was too short as well and the winning songs are way too loud. All will be fixed soon. I willl began to create new missions to have a rotation.

New event tomorrow: Friday 27th at 8pm (CET), UTC +1. SRS will be on (https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/63326-installation-and-usage-of-srs-for-il-2-voice-comms-app/).
The server name will be "Advance and Secure". Please join us!

PS: The server is already online and There are a few AI so feel free to test and give feedback even if there are no players.

The command channel to coordinate air and ground will be the channel 3 on SRS. If you see that we are speaking baguette, please protest and we will switch to english 😅

 

PS: I added a U2V  base close to the fight for those wanting to use this plane (the russain airbase was a bit too far for it 😅).

Good, the russians tankers  are already  complaining that I left one tiger and one ferdinand 😅, so we need more U2's 😁.
The server is up, there was an issue with the downloading of mission files, but is fixed now.
On our side we will start playing at 8pm UTC+1, in 2 h 30 min

Sorry @ITAF_Airone1989 for the failed U2V run 😅. Our escort got killed quickly and we died miserably before attacking the target ☹️. Thanks for those who came. Next time I will try to find more tankers. It is a bit difficult a friday night but since the covid lockdown is ending tomorrow here I wanted to try today as people might be less beind the PC this week-end!
Thanks @1./JG42flesch and @Dadi  for playing in tanks. I take note of the lack of heavy german tanks in your opinion, but I will wait for more data to find the right balance. I guess I could add some more panthers without problems though. 

I think that the fact that there are two ways of winning is confusing also (taking the last flag or having more flags than the ennemy team at the end of the timer). I will find a way to make it clearer to players.

Nice Server, many KI, but only one Tiger, Panther, Ferdinand and on Red Side 4x KV1, 3x SU152 and 10x SU 122 is not Balanced.

And the BS KI Paks see and shot betwenn Trees.

Please made more Cards, only one Winter Card is not so good.

Thanks for the feedback, yes there will be more maps. But I needed first to test that everything is ok with the first map because it is really long to make changes to all maps if I modify some core mechanics. Yes I will try to find the paks that see beind trees. I think I will do a more open map next with less buildings/trees to avoid that. Probably on the Prokhorovka map.

No need to add more tigers and panthers. Those guys will burn through them in no time anyway.  No matter what tanks are available on the map- they will grab a tiger after tiger and use it like a light tank lol. But it's up to you after all.

yes it is a bit what I fear, I'd rather have a low number and force people to learn to save them. There role should be to support the light tanks that will take the flag, not rush directly to the flag. Anyway I finished a new map in Prokorovka which is more open and it will be easier to check the balance. I just added 2 panthers per bases, because it's survivability is quite low. The goal is not to have perfect balance anyway because you can overturn the game quite easily if you are coordinating with planes. The other day I was coordinating with il2's, while in M4 or KV1 and had no problem to take out even the ferdinand. 

Anyone to try the last map now ? Same server: Advance and Secure
