[MOD] Voice Pack in English for Radio Chatter V0.47

Great mod!  This definitely adds to the VR immersion.  Is there anyway to increase the radio volume over the environmental sound?

Unless someone can produce a mod to do it, you can't... it's something that is sorely needed at the moment.

I wish also the sounds of this mod would be louder. So I begun some tests how to increase the volume of the sound files yesterday.

Because of the huge number of files (~ 2.700) a manual modification of each file is not possible.

Because of that I tried to find a tool which can batch process all files in a folder structure(!), increase the volume and save them with the same name.

Audacity has got a chain mode, but I wasn't able to figure out how it works.

Last night I used the freeware "Mp3 Volumer" to create a version of this mod whith increased volume. But it took a long time to process all the files.

I haven't tested the files yet, but I'll do it tomorrow in a career mission.

If it is successful we can create versions of this mod with different volumes (e.g. 100%, 150%, 200% volume) and you can download the version you like and switch between them with OvGME:

  • NoRadioNoiseEnglishV0.4-100.rar
  • NoRadioNoiseEnglishV0.4-150.rar
  • NoRadioNoiseEnglishV0.4-200.rar
  • NoRadioNoiseEnglishV0.4-250.rar

I've also contacted Mission4Today and asked if they add a mod section to IL-2 BOS.

I think it would be nice to share the mods over Mission4Today, too.

Best regards,

Kal

I haven't actually tried this yet but I DO know that each file needs to be compressed and normalised so that there is not any difference in the general 'volume' ie that one track doesn't 'pop out' more than another. I'd be willing to have a look at it if needs be? Maybe I'm speaking out of line here but anyway, just give me a shout if you need it looking at?

Rap

Scratch that, I just listened to some of them and they ARE pretty normalized. One thing though, they would be a LOT smaller in size if they were mono instead of stereo and that wouldn't affect the immersion as they would've been in mono anyway. As far as I know Walkmans weren't 'de rigeur' for WW2? He! He! It would certainly reduce the pack quite considerably, to the tune of 50% to be exact?... Great stuff and great idea though, by the way. :salute:

I don't want to be ungrateful because I am grateful for what you have done but nobody seems to have let you know that many of the pilots messages arrive in two different voices.   You will get "Stork 4 engaging target to the south, 1km."  done with two different voices.   Just feedback. If that is not fixable then it is still a very useful mod.

It already has been fixed in the current (unreleased version) it is also stated on the OP as "place holders"

I know but I used to work in software development myself and I know how frustrating it is when you think you have fixed all the known bugs and put out an update then someone says 'That';s nice.  Shame they did not manage to fix that bug X.'  and you had no idea X was occuring because nobody mentioned it.  Don't ever tell your customers/users 'This is a beta with known bugs so don't tell me about any you find.' :-)

Great stuff chaps. Please keep it up. Cant wait for the new version with unified voices.

(*cough* also if you could work on a sound overhaul mod that would be great *cough*)

The first version of the german mod is available.

I think about the creation of a sound mod which provides the original files but with increased volume (e.g. 250% of the original files).

Are people out there which are interested in this mod?

Before creating such a mod I'll need to get the permission of 1C-777, because they have the ownership.

I'm willing to ask and to create it if there are people who want it.

Yes, very interested. :)

What about an all languages pack with Americans speaking in American English, British in RP (Received Pronunciation), Germans in German and Soviets in Russian, etc? Maybe all the messages displayed in English subtitles?

Good stuff mate :)

Now all we need is a volume control for radios only... because at the moment, if you turn the volume up, the engine noise and everything else goes up as well!

Hey guys! I think this is a must have for off-line campaign play as well. Not sure why an English version didn't come with the game? I would guess more than 1/2 of the IL-2 community are not Russian nor German speaking.

Thank you for this! Any update by chance?

This voice-pack replaces the default radio chatter. It is useful for those of us who prefer to listen to our radios rather than having the HUD on while flying single or multiplayer (especially useful for VR users). The mod should also work in Multiplayer.

Version notes V0.46:

(I'm releasing this "hot-fix" since i'm still trying to find the time to complete version 0.5)

*This version of the mod does not require MODS ON MODE.

Pilot #1: 75% Complete (with place-holders for the rest of the audio files)

Pilot #2  100% Complete

ATC#1: 100% Complete

Ground Spotter#1: 100% Complete

Gunner#1: 100% Complete

Gunner#2: 100% Complete

The percentages above refer to the amount of voice-overs and doesn't properly represent the final quality of the MOD.

*There is a british voice for the spotter and one of the gunners (even for the german planes), in later versions I hope we have enough voice-actors so as to fix these potentially immersion breaking features. It is a shame since Orlok has an awesome voice for the parts; for now just think of the british guy as a former spy if you're flying german ;)

Some very nice people have enlisted to help : @19//SAG @OrLoK @StG77_Kondor @Gramps @[TWB]kmac31 @LF_ManuV @JG4_Etherlight @=FEW=N3croo @19//Tuesday @ZG15_kaltokri

The Mod is JSGME compatible.

LINK:

@ZG15_kaltokri Just started work on his own version of the mod in german and he's looking for volunteers here:

Note: The mod works with either Mods On or Off. Remember top Backup your files if you're not using JSGME.

I would need some people to help work as voice-actors in order to finish this mod. There are no particular skills required, just some patience. Please comment below if you're interested in contributing. The work is sadly not remunerated, so please thank all the collaborators.

The following Voice-Acting positions are available:

RPilot#1: @19//SAG

RPilot#2: @StG77_Kondor

RPilot#3: @19//Tuesday

RPilot#4:

RPilot#5:

GPilot#1:  @=FEW=N3croo

GPilot#2:  @JG4_Etherlight

GPilot#3: @ZG15_kaltokri

GPilot#4

RATC#1: @[TWB]kmac31

RATC#2: @evarno

GATC#1:

RSpotter#1: @OrLoK  (he's the russian spotter, He has a british accent)

RSpotter#2:

GSpotter#1: @LF_ManuV (He will be the german spotter in upcoming versions, He has a spanish accent)

RGunner#1: @Gramps

RGunner#2: @OrLoK

GGunner#1:

GGunner#2:

Here is a list of the amount of work each position requires:

*Most lines of dialogue consist of a single word like "one" or "Hawk".

Pilots: 230 lines of Dialogue (for reference, I did this one in one sunday. probably like 4 hours)

ATCs: 54 Lines of Dialogue

Spotters: 103 Lines of Dialogue

Gunners: 38 Lines of Dialogue

I'm currently looking for voice actors to fill in the remaining positions! anyone with a german accent out there?

Salutations,

I would like to help. I can provide a German Accented English voice. Example voice attached.

What kind of accent do you have?

First of all, I don't use VR but I think this voiceover is a good idea and I would like to thank the author for doing this.
I've installed it using JSGME but I think I'm hearing all comms twice: first in german and then in English. For instance, if the pilot spots something on the ground, it says so in german (i.e. "vehicles at 4 oclock engaging 2 km" or something like that), just to be followed by the same sentence in English. Is that the intended way?

Cheers

Noo, that is not the intended way at all. hmm I haven't experienced his bug, perhaps you installed both this version and the german version at the same time (i have it linked in the OP but you must only install this one for english voices)

Hi 19//SAG, I've downloaded the one pointed in the OP, 91.13Mb from http://www.mediafire.com/file/7bbtc10cy16z1qs/NoRadioNoiseEnglishV0.45.rar

I then expanded the NoRadioNoiseEnglish folder into my MODS folder (JSGME) and applied.

The following structure is present inside the NoRadioNoiseEnglish folder:

data

   \audio

      \radio

         \ger

\actor51 (all the actorXX folders have a other folders and files inside)

            \actor52

            \actor53

            \actor54

            \actor61

            \actor71

            \actor81

            \actor82

         \rus

            \actor01

            \actor02

            \actor03

            \actor04

            \actor05

            \actor11

            \actor12

            \actor21

            \actor22

            \actor31

            \actor32

   \Luascripts

\sound <- this folder is empty

What I hear is not some new actor in german, instead, I hear the original german radio message first, followed by the new English message immediately after.

My game isn't Steam based, if this helps.

Cheers

Well if the new audio files are being played than you must have placed the folder in the correct place. I haven't tried the mod with the stand alone launcher (i use steam) so perhaps there is some problem there. i guess ill have to download the Standalone version of the game and check. can you try in mods-on mode and see if it works?

Mods off = messages played twice (first german, followed by english)

Mods on = no messages at all (neither german or english - just mute).

Tried to redownload and reinstall twice, same results. This is on BoS non-Steam.

Will try again in the next iteration (v0.5). Or maybe the next version update the problem may go away on his own, who knows.
The problem seems to be on my side alone, since everyone else is doing fine.

What does the file structure look like in BOS after you apply the mod? I use the standard version of BOS and use OVGME for mods. The sounds are working correctly for me.

+1

If someone patient and kind enough could tell where this should be installed (without using any mod managers) I'd also be grateful.
