Black September IV - Flying Circus

Black Septermber IV - Flying Circus

  1. 1. How do you prefer to fly this introductory campaign?

    • Central and Entente Teams that DO NOT SWITCH each week.
    • Red and Blue Teams that DO SWITCH sides each week.
    • Pilots (not teams) MAY SWITCH sides on a first come, first served space available basis at the start of each weeks mission. Would help even sides if attendance is unpredictable.
  2. 2. Which side would you prefer to fly? (select all that apply)

    • Both (I may wish to fly different sides different weeks sometimes)
    • Either side (put me where you need me if there are teams/sides)
    • German Preferred
    • German Only (don't select other options)
    • Entente Only (don't select other options)
    • Entente Preferred
  3. 3. Do you plan on flying Black September?

S! Matt,

I don't think the airfields AAA is working. I just hovered over Yantar in a CL2 with nary a shot.

On another note:

While strafing a Brisfit at Yantar his gunner damaged my engine which eventually failed. The AI would then recognize me as shot down and ignore me. I landed at the enemy airfield and could sit there in the gunner seat un-accosted and able to snipe any spawning aircraft. This exploit happened in the last FIF. I don't think there is anything that can be done in either mission builder or server to prevent this behaviour.

The forward airfields (Yantar & Lapino) were actually purposely left unprotected to give scouts a reason to spend time defending the forward position and the ferry flights.  Which I thought was an awesome call since I consider those pretty much bonus planes for each side.  The other fields I armed pretty much to the teeth.  Then I saw your  "On another note".

Oh brother... that's a wonderful story.  Ok, forward airfields will get a LITTLE AAA love that hopefully won't leave a disabled plane an opportunity to glide in and pick the field apart.  I still think they shouldn't be entirely operationally risk free given proximity to the front.

- Bridge 2 Target is may be too tough for small bombs

Bridge 2 seems to be undestroyable at all... 3 Halb-flights put all the bombload on it (meaning at least 3x 50 kgs) and it remained undamaged.... I flew another sortie for bridge 1 and it was destroyed in the first pass where I dropped 1 big and 2 small bombs, probably 1 bomb would have been enough.....

This is the sortie-log of the attack on Bridge 2:

162.248.94.112:8000/de/sortie/log/310/?tour=1

...no % damage to see, but definitly I saw some explosions by my bombs and also Butzz had plenty of good hits

And here the sortie log of the other flight to Bridge 1:

162.248.94.112:8000/de/sortie/log/328/?tour=1

Never the less not to forget: Had fun in the test runs, thanks for your work, salute!!

Today I was able to take out all the bridges on one sortie using the Cl2 with 3 50kg bombs, 1 for each bridge. The 12kg  bombs will work on the pontoon bridges but the RR bridge needs to be hit with the 50kg.

RR bridge needs a 50kg dropped next to pillar (or straight under a segment?). Explosions further in warter do nothing at all. I guess bombs dropped at segment from above bounce away thanks to 5sec detonator. I guess bombs set from altitude and set to detonate on impact would be the best - if you can hit from altitude.

But I never had a single problem with ROF or IL2 that ever came close to the worst of my problems trying to get a printer to work.

I hope you found a way to persuade your printer to work .. It is so sad .. Once I had a fight with my robot vacuum cleaner and we didn’t greet each other for two days 😉

Let's finish each one with our own opinion.  I believe that the product should work without shamanistic dances with a tambourine by the fire, but you are ready to dance if necessary.  ok ok

Update pushed to test server 0120 GMT 9/3

Known Issues:

- Sfxs need to be added.

- Finish flight timer / Coalition / respawn / death penalty enforcement not active... Its a test server.

- Actual written rules and game scoring information will be released this week.

Fixed Issues (IMPLEMENTED ON TEST SERVER, Lapino v5):

- Factory bombing targets added and balanced for 50kg/ 112lb bombs.

- Cut off messages fixed.

- Artillery spawning issues fixed

- Some Bristol F2B3s relabeled with "Escorts" to denote no bomb config.  These are aerial support aircraft.

- Many bristols and halbs rearmed to have 8 x cooper/small bombs and 1 or 2 x 50kg

- Mission display of Incorrect artillery target

- Mission status updates moved to center left of screen, turned RED and font enlarged by 50%

- Defensive "Ground Attack" icons changed to Offensive markers

- Heavy AAA defenses for airfields implemented

- Bristol and Halb inventories need to split between HEAVY bomb config and MIXED bomb config.  Mixed config represents a low bomb stockpiles issue.

- An AI issue with plane ferrying to forward fields has been resolved.

- Ground attack popup tooltips switched sides to be clear who was doing what..

- Bridge 2 Target (stone/metal)  lowered durability to make it an easier target appropriate for 50kg bombs.

- prompts for players to hit infantry/armored cars/trucks so people are paying attention to them

- Light but "appropriate" AAA defenses added to some mission targets that warrant static coverage..  They are killable/supressable.

- A "test airfield' was removed.

Go back to the 1st page of this thread and read Baeumers complete post under the poll. Pretty self explanatory as well as a d/l of the rules.

If you still have questions, feel free to PM me here.

Trupo brings a good point... will we be checking the J5 forum for updates, orders, etc as in the past?

The thread here has no security between teams.

Ok, maybe that's that point: I cannot say that Buzz or me had dropped the 1 big bomb close enough on a pillar... nevertheless I would find it strange, that the small bombs do not cause any damage at alle (not even 0,1%)

Well, anyhow: As the durability is lowered now the issue might be solved anyhow, let's see 😁

Thanks for your answeres Gamecock and Trupo....😉

I just dropped it with one 50kg just beyond the approach ramp. Beware the AAA... it's been upped  🙂

I don't think that they will be necessary, or even feasible for this go-round.  It's all new and untried so I don't know if we will be getting as deep and competitive as our previous campaigns.   There may be some players who will be flying different sides on different weeks,  depending on numbers.  I believe that's why we had no sign up sheet,  no team pages , no side commanders ,etc.

Baeumer will correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe that's the idea.

Probably because this is a new thing?

Yes, Talbot and Gamecock.... you are right....this first time out of the gate with FC we are approaching it as a beta campaign...there may be pilots switching sides week to week potentially to keep things even (as only is necessary). And, there are a lot of pilots newer to this kind of campaign format.    Forcing everyone new to register on our forum etc this time around seemed like just adding another barrier to participation.....just getting everyone onto teamspeak to do a little anning and coordination will be challenge enough for some not to mention introducing a server password into the process.....that said, we don't want to discourage any side from doing some planning and organizing and sharing those plans with pilots on teamspeak ahead of the start of the mission.

PS anyone excited about this campaign?!   I know I am!

Well, having team command and control was always a big plus for me, but I guess we may do this FiF style (ad hoc and loose).

S! Trupo

FiF style? Sorry if Blue team has no command and control system. Red team has been lucky to have a variety of people that take on the job of command. We change commanders almost every campaign. It is a voluntary position. Depending on the plane set and map location we get to see different strategies and styles of command.

Perhaps you could step up and provide some leadership to Blue Team.

1. Congratulations to the organizer of Black September. Great holiday for aviation enthusiasts WWI.
2. I have a some questions for the server host. Why was the mission file version  bs4lapino.mission ????  it  overloads the server!  ask the developer to issue a mission file for the server bs4lapino.msnbin. version .missionis needed for debugging the card only
