Game version 3.001 discussion: Final Release of the Battle of Kuban

Recommended Posts

Other than lower FPS, single player works fantastic, and I love the new features. However, when it comes to multiplayer  I can't seem to stay connected to any server (once I finally get connected to any server) for any longer than 5 minutes before losing connection.

Heya pilots!

Well, I got the update today and by default it changed the graphical settings upwards.

So, I tried it out and my PC lose a lot of FPS, down to 16 when I look fast to the sides.

Off course I played a little with the options, down and down.

Now, I am recently back at the options (like 40km visible range) before the update and still my FPS is terrible when I look at the side. Between 20 and 25.

I even changed the settings lower than before the update and the FPS are[Edited].

What to do?

Any idea? Maybe I missed something....

My PC

CPU: WIN7-64, 8 RAM, i5-3570 at 3,4 GHZ 3,4 GHZ

GPU: GTX 660ti

Try reducing your shadow quality  somewhat. With all the bells and whistles enabled I was getting around 45 FPS. With shadow reduced to high I gain about 15 FPS.

I have a 970 GTX and am running with a resolution of (2560x1440) and getting around 60 FPS. Running the resolution at 1080x1920 I get around 80-90 FPS.

On EXPERT settings there is an icon showing position of my plane on map (default "O" key). How to turn off this icon on EXPERT?

I'm deeply sorry for all having any kind of troubles. I'm the lucky guy and everything works perfect for me.

So I wanted to say to all dev team - I love you guys :D.

On Kuban I get a huge fps drop.

From 45/50 fps to 20/25 since update to 3001. Without changing graphic settings (760 GTX).

It happens when looking to the (new) far horizon. When looking at landscape underneath my plane fps goes up again immediately.

I was aware of loss of frames with the introduction of the new horizon but did not expect this.

I am afraid I need to lower settings to fly the map.

Don't care about CLOD. Just make a new profile then show me it's broken. I have no other suggestions.

Jason

Couple others are reporting the same issue and not just with TrackIR, but also with OpenTrack:

As requested, here is a quick video of me demonstrating with a fresh TrackIR profile.

https://youtu.be/IpbNOUqHiK4

Give me way to downgrade my IL2 BoX or have a standalone 2.x version and I'll gladly demonstrate that something has changed with BoX, and not with my TrackIR setup.

It's beautiful to see even with the limited resolution of VR but the cpu load is much higher. I got 50% through a mission and my system over-heated and crashed. My GPU was OK though and I can drop my overclock on the cpu a bit which should help. I'm NOT complaining, the opposite, I want higher graphical quality even if I have to upgrade my hardware.

Love the update so far!

One issue though, I'm using auto engine management (mixture prop, etc.), and despite having the throttle axis mapped to the engine throttle (and both engines selected), I cannot get any power out of the A-20B. On the ground, I can't get RPM above about 1k, and in the air, even though the RPMs go up to 3k, I can't get any thrust out of the engines, and soon after starting I just lose speed and fall to earth. I tested the P-39 and the engine works like a charm. What am I missing?

The new graphics enhancements look awesome! The 150km terrain render in combination with the improved clouds makes for a very real looking scenery. The winter rendering gives that feeling of the cold air on a clear winter day.

Despite some performance issues the career mode is exactly what I hoped it would be.

Very good job Dev Team!

I'll be getting BoK in a short while.

Brilliant, thank you Guys so much for a lovely update.

Took P39 and Yak 7 for QMB flights slamming into trees gunning for trucks on the updated Stalingrad Map.

Love the work done on that by the way.

Then took my Yak 1 s69 for a Winter Stalingrad escort mission, next mission in line from PWCG I had started.  We take off pre dawn in the mids of an Icy Landscape.  Through 6 way points we climb to 4k altitude and then head off to meet up with flight of 4 Pe2's with whom we escort as the sun breaks over the Frozen world.

AI leader climbing a bit more moderately than before, flight of 6 including me keep up with the flight leader in the climb.  Was flying full real, and the Graphic Settings were same as I had before but with 150km horizon and UI set to 125% scale for my 27" 1440p monitor.

No problems loading up the mission and frames were floating between 100 and 144fps pending on if I had hud on or not and how low down I was.  It looked as though there was a little more detail in the Yak 1 Model as well as I now noticed the position of my flight leaders Oil radiator and Water radiator flaps.  Also noticed easier when he had pulled back on the throttle and then opened it up again by the exhaust on his Yak.  Not generated my next mission but it will be interesting if I get to square off against Macchi's or 109F's again and how they respond as well as my AI flight.

With regards to frames, it seemed smoother with no hesitations and the view was lovely.  Much easier to navigate by as well.  More time in the pilots seat required and it will be interesting to see how online flying compares when servers I fly get up and running with the update.

Now to read the change log )).  :thank_you::good:

Love everything about it. New shadows in winter, new draw distance, new aircraft etc etc etc. All outstanding and all running smooth as silk.

Now, back to work! On to BoBp.

After some experimentation, I've found that setting "Distant landscape detail" to x3 had the greatest effect on my FPS; bringing me from ~8 FPS to ~45.

I have the new "Horizon draw distance" at 100km, and "Map scenery distance" set to Unlimited.

So far so good -TrackIR etc. Only issue I've noted was that the "British" A-20 skin is actually Soviet (did not see that noted anywhere).

Unfortunately, the game instantly crashes on my Vive when starting any mission. I'm glad it's working for most others.:(

Just managed to recreate what you did in the video.

Same issue. when looking behind and i roll my head, the roll is inverted.

Just inverting the roll does not fix this. (it'll just shift the problem to when i'm looking forward)

I think that refers to a former British Boston transferred to the USSR and flown in Brit camo but with red stars (rather than a plane shipped direct from the USA).

Congrats on the update can't wait to fly! Those metal skins look amazing. Best I've ever seen in a sim, looking forward to more US planes that will use them in BoBp

Love the new map tiles (I was waiting for them)  and aircrafts, as well as improved options for settings! I'm on a Rift, all the system software /drivers /everything even the MB's FW is uptodate.

However, something is somewhat bugged.

1) I get strongly shimmering clouds (all cloud settings).

2) Lights of other aircraft are sometimes not where they should be, they move away from the wingtips and hover 20m next to the aircraft. They get to the right spot if I press VR zoom.

3) UI re-size has no effect.

4) Sometimes other aircrafts stop rendering for 2-5 seconds at the range of 1-2km. I confirmed this against a blue background at close range. It happens even if I keep them in the center of vision.

This was all in SP quick mission, in VR. Since then, I deleted SteamVR (including its remains), reinstalled it, and verified the game cache of il 2  (Steam). It didn't help.

I now deinstalled the game and deleted its remains in the SteamApp folder completely manually, and am re-downloading it. This will take a while. I hope it will disappear. Is there another folder of IL 2 storing data, aside from the one in SteamApps?

If these issues persist, I am more than happy to provide logs for it, if I am given the tools, and send any information necessary to the devs. Let's hope the clean reinstallation will fix it. It can only be some software issue.

I'm getting micro stutter and also my frame rate has halfed.

I used to get 70-80 on the ground and always a solid 100 (max rfresh rate) in the air. Now I'm at 60 on the ground and dipping in the 40's and 50's in the air. This is all at ultra. Ive adjusted the view distance right down to 70k/m and a few other settings but it seems to be making little difference.

I'm Hoping theres some optimization issues that can be ironed out.

Clear sky it runs as before but these clouds are crippling my FPS

Brilliant Thank you. Just tried the P-39 against He-111, 4th & 5th cannon shot tore the wing off, very impressed. 109G-4 against A-20, best result with attack from side and rake it as soon as wingtips in sight, get across to the other side as quickly as possible to see if they all get out. Did 3 stern attacks...100% failure , got hammered & took up gliding!

Just had those 15 mins and well impressed, THANK YOU, Dev’s

I had some small stutters related to headtracking movements that mostly resolved when I increased the inertia on the camera settings page a touch. Could be a placebo but I'm a stutter freak so if it were still there id notice!

Well, I'm late. Only because I was checking out the campaign and new planes.

I wasn't expecting this update for another week so this made my day.

Not necessarily a complaint. But I hope the navigators position in the A-20 gets sorted because it's quite unrealistic having a bomber without a navigator position someone can occupy/switch to. Especially considering the likely hood of a player controlled b-25 at some point. It'd be silly to have the pilot doing all the bomb aiming and navigating.

That aside, many thanks for the update I hope the devs have a long deserved rest for all this fantastic work :P

My fps has been all over the place. If in solo flight the fps is fairly stable at approx 122 fps but in the campaign its dreadful and stutters and the trackir tracking is all off i.e. it is jittery and the fps drops and then stutters unless I look right ahead. System wise I am running a Asus Strix 1080ti, paired with a 8700k and was able to run everything on max so God knows what the cause of performance issues is.

Another bug that just happened to me was that guns on my 109 G-2 wouldn't fire even though I was full on ammo and my plane wasn't damaged. This was in multiplayer. Landing and taking another plane didn't fix it, only after I restarted the game my guns started to work again.

For everyone who have problems with LogIn when you starting game from STEAM:

Please try to exit Steam and launch the game using:

\<IL-2 game folder>\bin\game\Il-2.exe

Please post your result here after this attempt.

I've had this problem through tonight. I tried exiting Steam an launching from within the game but no go.
