Mrtv will come with material on it soonish. It'll have same clarity as the Aero, same high res but over more FOV, higher refresh rate, higher contrast, better black levels, not as much FOV as the previous Pimax headsets, they went in-between 8KX and Index this time.

But do not to celebrate yet:

AFAIK the software is still the problem child. If the thing can't run and crash every second try, it's no use.

I'd wait, and not enter the hype train or anything yet.

We've seen with the 8KX and the Aero that things can look good on paper but come with heavy issues or as one-trick ponies. It depends on the future use-case as well.

Oh trust me I was far from celebrating Pimax. Just pointing out - seems they are going to be shall we say - a bit late...Still loving my Aero though after Nvidia's latest stunts I wish they would support the AMD line of GPU's as well.

In the current environment, staying Nvidia only would mean they'd be out of their minds. I hope they establish compatibility to AMD's card line-ups soon as well.

More info, not really a launch, so we will have to wait, I’m not making a call until we some real world reviews in sims , ideally IL2

i recently and reluctantly ditched my 6900 for a 4090, as Varjo have categorically said only Nvidia :(  . Still the 4090 with the G2 is a significant improvement based on a quick 4 hours testing.

so the Aero (real , good product ,but expensive and maybe too tight a FOV to justify buying now ) or the Crystal (which may be flaky, or several months away, or both)

That thing is huge. Waiting for apple to reveal a new 'iPhone' AR/VR event.

At that time other companies may also realize the end is near for quest pro and pimax monster hmds (I hope).

I can, and will compromise on aesthetics , and how comfortable it is (nothing beats nothing on your head so always an issue for VR headsets). What I want is easy to use, a good FOV (do not need 200, but 130 would be nice) and fluid graphics (a combination of visual clarity and smooth movement) .     Pass through would be nice although programs like Voice Attack help with the keyboard interaction , I also personally think a mic/speakers should be included, which the Aero dos not manage

Still just fluff suggesting that Pimax is nowhere close to releasing the Crystal or 12K. ?

I agree very vague on release details, I see are they now accepting a reserving fee for the crystal, no way would I commit to an unseen unreviewed product, however I do think it will ship in limited numbers in 2022

The word on the street is that they will ship the pre-orders by christmas. Myself, I will probably wait and see what happens. Definately interested though...

Ironic thing about that is they first revealed the Crystal at the same time as Varjo did the Aero...

Been using my Aero since getting it in late Jan.

Pimax all-in-one concept ... and I thought the challenge was to make entry into VR easier ... not chaotic.

But the "iphone" revolution is that all-in-one concept too, so maybe this will work as well !?

Could be Pimax is in dire straits and needs to get some cash to give to creditors before it all comes tumbling down.

Next week Pimax are show casing the Crystal in public,  it seems they have production units, but by their

own admission have software issues to resolve, probably means independent reviews by YouTubers  still some way off , would be great if they could pull off this product, as it would push the VR envelope forward for likes of Varjo and others to follow

THEIR QUOTE.  ‘The Pimax Roadshow is a part of the promotional campaign for the launch of our new Pimax Reality Series, mainly (but not limited to) the Pimax Crystal QLED headset, which is currently entering mass production while the software development is still ongoing to improve the overall experience. The samples used for the roadshow will be production units from the factory, but bare in mind that some specific features of our Pimax Crystal *may* still be limited or even not activated during the demo sessions. We do our best to maximize your first hands-on experience with Pimax Crystal, but we also hope you'll understand that some of the functions may not be completely error-free in time for the events. Lets face it; nothing is ever perfect from day one, right? :)”

Like the initial look of the Pimax crystal but a key issue for me is the lack of support for AMD. I refuse to pay the crazy price for the 4090 and will likely go with the 7900xtx from my current 3080ti.  If this rules out the Pimax and Aero then so be it. Suspect that AMD will increase their market share dramatically over the next year and the likes of Pimax and Aero will have no choice but to follow the trend and develop drivers for AMD. The last chance saloon for Nvidia is that they come up with a 4080ti but drop the price significantly, seems unlikely given 4080 pricing.

sadly i do not think AMD support will come to Varjo anytime soon, they sort of confirmed this is a recent interriew saying they were Nvidia focussed. Pimax are different and may go AMD , although  i recently switched from AMD to Nvidia to increase future VR options

What could you possibly gain by doing so ... your 3080ti must be about the best price/funtionality/performance ?

IMHO just a few more FPS in VR ... yet far less funtionality with AMD.

If you have great fire insurance then the 4090 looks to me the only 'better' option.

Based on current Il-2 performance, and depending on why RDNA2 doesn't play well with the engine, it should be similar.

However other flight sims should see a 50% performance improvement over the GA102 cards.

And if the problem is cache thrashing, it may not see the same problem RDNA2 did at all.

To me Frames-per-second was only 1 of the specs to take into consideration (IL-2 or other sim/app).

FWIW. The new 12 pin adapter-plug of the NV 40XX+ series of cards is a fiasco and is going to haunt that company for a long time.

I sure won't touch any card with that horror-adapter any time soon, don't understand how something like this is possible in 2022 !?

I see, whereever Fenris go (Dortmund or Berlin) it would be good to have him there to have some objetivity.

The MRTV guy, as a good youtuber, tends to insert a lot of hype in all the reviews he does.

@SCG_Fenris_WolfYou can even propose them to test IL-2??

Fenris  , would be good to hear your views, (daughter in Berlin but I don’t think i can persuade her to go!)

appreciate it is a marketing event , but if you could get them to comment on

1. production , are 1st units really under manufacture, and at what scale

2. What issues do they still have with software (which they admit) , any distortion,  artifacts etc . Not interested in standalone , hopefully  issues are untethered !?

3. Ask them how does it benchmark  with Pimax 8k for frame rate , performance on a good setup ie 3090 type , also on lower spec  . I msure it will be slower but  could then be used to judge how it will perform on our set ups

4. Visually, maybe you get to see, clarity, sweet spot, colour sound and FOV  impressions , what is useable refresh rates

5. Any photos you can take of the units they have close ups of build quality

6. When (and why not already) are they going to let independent reviewers have the units

7 realistic European availability

Maybe asking too much, but you can try to ask them:

- Use this https://knob2001.itch.io/testhmd to measure the FOV and test other things

- See if they allow you to run IL-2 in their PCs, So you will have better references to compare

- If you succed in convincing them about running IL-2 and If you have a good compact camera or just a good phone camera you can try to ask make some through the lens pictures of these  5 tracks files (they are the ones I used for the Pico4 vs Index comparison)

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Qi8otQTUNT3a5ZMipH6kwU5i52TiSpkk/view?usp=share_link

Having there the key Pimax people you can also ask them:

- For people who will just play always connected to PC (like me), would be option to not buy the removable 2x6000mAh batteries and charger?

- And also without the controllers? (This will give a lot of flexibility for just PCVR seated users)

- Just for future, ask them how difficult would be to have a future device where not only the batteries are removable but also the XRchip and wifi. So it is up to the users to go wireless or just DP cable. Reducing significantly the price.

In the market for an upgraded HMD, looks like several are coming available soon. looking forward to this fenris review...

Fenris, you being an expert I am truly looking forward to what you will be able to see over there !

There have been already quite a bit of interesting questions from others ... that will be more than enough already.

Thank you for attending the roadshow and letting us know.

Just contacted Pimax support to see if the Crystal would have support for the 7900XTX, they replied that it had been tested with the 6900XT and worked so likely it would.  Being Pimax I will believe it when someone has tested it but at least it was not a straight no.

A target of 7?003DX / 7900XTX / Crystal system sounds really good (maybe 4090 but price is crazy).

Maybe at some stage we will get to a point when future upgrades are not necessary unless you want to make small incremental gains. While there will always be people with the money to chase the latest and greatest, I just want something that works. Must be of concern to the CPU and GPU manufacturers that they will eventually shrink the market more and more with each technological jump.
