Installation and Usage of SRS for IL-2 (Voice Comms App)

Hi, I have an SRS question. Is there a way allies and axis can talk ? The reason I ask is a m8 and I go on an empty server to practice against each other, to practice spotting and interception, and it would be nice to talk. If we both fly a plane from the same side the airfield defences won't operate against the attacker which makes an airfield attack unrealistic.

Im new to IL2 and tried SRS on combatbox the other night. I thought it was great but when I first listened in I heard people talk to airfield control and ask for missions or landing permission etc.....but how do I know what to say, is there a guide to commands/requests that can be used?

I think that in this case it is better to use Discord or similar.

Hi, if your on the allied side, go to chanel 1 ask Kenway for a call sign.

Then go to chanel 2 using your call sign tell them you want to take off, they will clear you or not depending on flights already landing. Some people do this some don't bother ! Then you can change to another channel for in-flight voice comms. When the AI controlled radio knows where you are in action it will vector other planes to help you, or ask you to go and help others. As for the axis it should work the same but with a different base call sign. I think I've got this correct, if not some one will correct any mistakes. Good luck

Thanks, found some great videos from the main men on here that helped immensely. Although with my Irish accent, when I ask for call sign Raven 2, she gives me River 2

You might be remembering Combat by Red Box’s SRS AI implementation. IIRC, those might be on servers sub forum.

The Combat Box SRS callsigns are listed in the second row of the table here.

May you add the option to hide the IP of the SRS server on the client version.

 

I don't like that the IP of the SRS server which is also the same of the game server (in most of the case), is displayed in the client when the auto connection is activated.

 

For security, it will be better.

When using SRS with headphones, where I also hear the rest of the game, the bot is too quiet to hear once my engine is running.

 

Is there a way to get the overlay in game?

I usually turn down the main sound in the game if I need to hear better while flying online.  Make sure that Volume is maxed out for SRS under your Volume Mixer in the Windows.  In the SRS menu you can also increase the loudness/volume. I am not quite sure what you mean by the overlay there is an overly window which will show the channels and 2 different radios. I do not think this works in the VR and you might need to be in the windowed mode for the IL-2 for that to show

Hi - I use SRS and recently il2 is not shutting down cleanly. I get a message 'config errors found saved to CFGPool.log from il2'.  1C support have recommended a clean install.  Do I need to reinstall SRS or will it work again straight after reinstalling il2.  I think I might need to reinstall because the installer makes changes to the startup.cfg so it can work with SRS.

I just did a complete reinstall of il-2 and my Steam account . I installed SRS-IL2 into my system. I can’t find the data/startup.cfg file where I am supposed to do the edit as per step 1. Any idea where I can find it ? Thanks!

Ok…..still having problems. When I open srs client , leave the control panel up, and then start up IL and go to combat box I get the Welcome to combat box….. et cet but don’t get the radio overlay. Hitting Alt tab brings it up but it disappears when I hit any button. My mouse doesn’t move well when the radio overlay is up. When I then exit the game the the radio overlay comes up and radio works fine. Any idea on how to get the program to run properly?

Figured it out. I had the “Full screen” option checked on the in game graphics. Uf dah !

I've countered problems the last few days after starting up IL2 SRS 1.0.1.4. After a while it just shuts down without any error messsages. This is on the combat box server. I have not checked any other server but seems it's perculiar that it just shutting down by itself. Been running it for over a year and haven't changed anything.

Does it work still for VR/Oculus users? Im not sure how it works, overlay should be above IL-2 window on the monitor? I never met this possibility.

I am unable to get this to work. I have followed the instructions to a T.

 

When I start the client & connect to srs.combatbox.net:6002 I am told by the controller that I am in the neutral lobby and that I need to spawn an aircraft.  When I do this nothing happens.

When I alt/tab I can see that while the Server and VOIP icons on the client overlay are green, the IL-2 connection is black, indicating that it is not recognizing that the game has started.  I had installed it to SteamApps/common/IL-2 etc/data.

 

Now I think that was the wrong folder.  It's supposed to be /bin/game . . . correct?  Well, when I try to install to this folder it says "Unable to find IL2 Game - Please check the path to the game directory".

WTH

 

PLEASE HELP ME GET THIS RUNNING.

Funny, everyone on Combat Box says SRS is a must have . . . but nobody here want's to help someone who has been trying to get it running for a week now.

I thought I replied to this recently somewhere else.

 

I had the same problem and it was that the entry in the startup config file somehow got deleted. I would make sure that the config file has the needed entry.

Hey, that's a cool thing! 👍VR and SRS!! I'm trying it out right now, I've read almost all of them...but I have one question...does it work in German too? YES, the pilots' language is English but in WW2 German pilots spoke German gg For the immersion gg If I have to speak in English and my radio answers in English then we're spies gg🤣😅

OK! It's going, but WoL have no Tower! gg

It's only a replacement for Team Speak or Discord, a direct conversation with the right channel. The voice effects are very good! Very realistic. Good Job! Please, Team WoL, please add a tower. My ButtKicker and SRS and Quest 3 and the awesome cockpit are really cool!

What’s happening with SRS lately???

 

The bot used to call out the heading and distance to bandits in combat box and that no longer happens. Why was this useful feature removed?

 

Additionally, the new bot voice recordings are horrendous. You can hardly understand what they say half the time. The quality of the recording is abysmal. And it seems like the rounded up random friends and family as voice actors… 

 

SRS used to be very useful but now it’s mostly a voice chat and has lost its relevance.
