Bo_Nidle Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 (edited) "Down for Double" 355th Fighter Group. Flown by Lt Col Gordon M. Graham who ended the war with 7 aerial and 9.5 strafing victories. The 355th are another Group that tends to get lost a little in the shadow of the "Fab Four" ( 352nd, 4th, 357th and 56th) . The 355th were the fifth highest scoring 8th USAAF Group and the top scoring strafing 8th USAAF Group, earning them the nickname "The Steeple Morden Strafers". 357th_KW Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 That's a gorgeous skin. I'd love to see Clairborne Kinnard's "Man O' War" in the late war 355th colors - somewhat similar but with a different shape to the white nose. 1

IV./JG5_-Axe- Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 I've yet to find "The Shark" (G-SHWN) skin for the Mustang IV on the forums. Could someone more talented than me please have a go at it? I'd show more pictures here, but I'm having trouble adding them and I wouldn't want to make the post too large.

It's already fixed, thanks! Next..... Capt. Maurice [NMI] Morrison, Kalamazoo, MI, 352nd FS, 353rdFG with his P-51D-10-NA 44-14804 SX-R “El Gato” (The Cat), with its corresponding artwork of a black panther. As can be seen, the last four of 14804 appear on the upper and lower panels. However, the middle panel bears the last four “4693”. This P-51, retaining its SX-R code, was reassigned to Lt. Harold Miller, Detroit, MI, who renamed it “Honey Bee II”. 44-14693 was initially SX-K “The Flying Finn” of Maj. Wilbert H “Weep” Junttila, Calumet, MI. Weep suffered a mid-air collision on 27th November 1944 and it was subsequently reassigned to Lt. James W Lamb as SX-K(bar). Lt. Lamb had a taxiing accident in it on 16thJanuary 1945 at Coulommiers/A-58 (Calico) France. It was salvaged following that accident. The strange thing is, that the lettering of El Gato, and the 353rd checkerboard paintwork, appear to have been applied at the same time. Coincidentally, both P-51s were received by the 353rd on 14th September 1944 with 4693 flying its first combat mission on 2nd October; followed by 4804 on 5th. Looks as though the conundrum is something that will never be answered. Crew chief on the left is S/Sgt Ralph E. Moore with assistant Sgt Ernest H. Gardner on the right. 3 1
