PWCG Bug Reports

Recommended Posts

I'd like to highlight something that happens more often than not:

Whenever I'm ordered to attack train facilities, the train blows up by itself.

I'm approaching the target area and see an explosion in the distance. When closing in, I notice the train is already kaputt.

Here's a picture of the debrief of it:

Hope you know why this is.

When I go ingame to mission and select the generated one no briefing appears and when I press launch it just sits there, only changing the cursor to the loading variant. I've had it sit like this for 20 minutes and still nothing.. I have a pretty decent PC, so I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to take all this time to load. I've tried with several different campaigns, none have worked.

Hi Patrick. What is the "specified target" here?

post-675-0-59712000-1478254054_thumb.jpg

Here's the map:

I went on to fly the mission. Maybe something there in the city to bomb?

Here's the city from the southeast:

I do not know where to drop the bombs.

I do not know where to drop the bombs.

I would say that Axis troops are using the city for shelter and logistics. Bomb the whole thing.

"specified objective" is a generic description that is supposed to be overwritten with something specific.  Looks like PWCG is letting a target type slide through without being replaced by a specific description.  I'll see if I can find it.

Cybermat has the right general idea - fly there and bomb what you see :).

I do want to implement a new mission type - free hunt for ground targets.  Instead of "fly here and there will be a target" it would be "fly around and there may be a target or there may not be",

@ Patrick: Thanks and a good idea.

@ Cyber: You sure you are not the (grand)son of a guy called Harris?  ;)

I've seen your post. I don't know how to help. If the mission shows up in the mission list it means it's generated. So install is good. I'd say you'd have to wait for it to load, for it may take a while. But you stated you waited 20 mins. So you have a problem, but I don't know what. I'm sorry I could not be of any assistance. :(

Hi Tomten, did you write your pilot's name in english spelling? For example, when you use a german name, you have to reset 'ä', 'ö', 'ü', 'ß', by 'ae', 'oe', 'ue', 'ss'.

Oh! That might be the problem! I used an é! Will try with an ordinary e. Thanks for the tip!

That fixed it, thank you very much Yogiflight!

BoS/RoF are really finicky about the language files.  Because PWCG only generates English files the character set must be English.  I made a change some time ago to ensure that all names were [A-Z], [a-z].  Did PWCG let you create a pilot with non-English characters?

@Bando: If you get the mission description with "specified target" please scrub it and generate a new one.  I recreated the problem one time over the weekend and there is, in fact, no target.  Unfortunately my trap happened too late in the code stream to identify the root cause.  I'll keep trying to correct it, but in the meantime scratch those missions and generate a new one.

1/ is it possible (v.2.1) to have name of pilots from mission in PWCG in the game too? I saw raports but names was different than it was in briefing.

2/ is it possible to add text info about spot enemy (air or ground target) from main player or wingman like it is in official campain?

3/ its possible to have more German bombers for BoM campaign? I play as Russian pilot on MiG-3 now, it's the end of October and I feel like a master of the Sky, no any drama these days.

I can meet maximum 3-4 bombers for whole patrol and thats all. Maybe its limitation due of performace?

Here is example from old IL-2 and formations: https://youtu.be/k2teCxv9p_U?t=19m34s .

Yes.  Go to advanced configuration in your campaign.

Select Aircraft Numbers

increase Bombing minumum and/or Bombing additional

Bombing minimum is the minimum number of planes in a bombing flight

Bombing Additional is a random number that will be added.

So if minimum = 4 and additional = 6 then you will get between 4 and 10 bombers in a flight.

1. I'm not sure that I understand the questions.  What do you mean by having the name of the pilot in the game?  The icon text?

2. I don't play the campaign so I'm not sure what this means.

Hi YoYo,

1. It might be, that the different names in game have to do with another flight. For example, when you are flying a ground attack or bombing mission, and someone tells on the radio ( and you can read it in the HUD info), that he attacks enemy, it might be your escort, who is engaging enemy aircrafts. They are named, too, since one of the latest PWCG updates. Or it is a completely different flight, flying somewhere around.

2. Your question is about the groundcontrol info at the actionpoint, right? This is a quite unrealistic 'gamething' in the BOS campaign, especially, when you are attacking a ground target, far behind enemy lines. You have to follow your flightpath on the map, so you see where you are. Then you will know, when it is time for your ground attack.

I downloaded ver 2.1.1 installed it and when I tried to start I received a Java error, the message was "A java exception has occurred", this error showed up on my desk top and stayed even after exiting the program, only way to get off my desk top was to reboot my system.   I thought maybe I had a bad download so I re-downloaded but the files where all the same.  I reinstalled ver. 2.1, put my saved campaign back in and all is well.

Any one else?  I also have the latest game version. :scratch_one-s_head: I also installed ver. 2.1.1 after the latest game update.

that is really odd.  What was the error?

if PWCG pops up an error message then that popup is tied to the PWCG executable.  Kill the executable and the popup goes away.  If something else came up then it was popped up independent of the PWCG executable, but still may have been issued as a result of PWCG actions.  If I knew the error it I could  look into it.

did you, when copy paste the second folder into the il2 folder, replace and over write all?

folder setup is in side the second folder not the first one. i.e. .*.:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\PWCGCampaign

PWCGBoS 2.1.1\PWCGCampaign copy the folder PWCGCampaign, its in the PWCGBoS 2.1.1 fodler.

Pat, I did kill the PWCG executable, what was left is the Java icon in my task bar which when I tried to shut it down is when the "A java exception has occurred" showed up on the main screen and when I tried to close it, it would not close.  I then shut down the computer, restarted and the "A java exception has occurred" message did not reappear.  I tried one more time to use the 2.1.1 version but had the same "java problem".

I then reinstalled version 2.1 and that version works fine.  I think I have latest version of Java, if I don't I do not think version 2.1 would work. This is strange.

Mastiff, I deleted the PWCGCampaign 2.1 and then installed 2.1.1. The 2.1.1 version is what caused the problem.  I then deleted the 2.1.1 version and reinstalled 2.1 version and it works just fine.  BTW I do not have the steam version.  My is in Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\Il-2xxxx\PWCGCampaingn folder.

If your 2.1 version works, can you try to overwrite the 2.1 with version 2.1.1?

Maybe it will work then. At least in my case that worked.

not a problem which version, a steam or PC version folder is just different, deleting the full version is what might be the issue, as 2.1.1 is just an incremental update, you might have to start over? Edited by 71st_AH_Mastiff

I did switch compatibility from java 7 to 8 with the last release, so a Java update might be the answer.

I have had Java 8 on my system for some time but my builds were still set to Java 7 until recently.  I wasn't even aware of it until I tried a new Java construct that I knew should work but was giving me a compilation error.  I changed my compatibility to Java 8, which is the right thing to do.  Try a Java update and see if it fixes the issue.

I like it that the pattern changed a bit. In stead of the spaghetti WP's you get something that makes sense as an intercept pattern.

I think it is impossible for PWCG to see what part of the map is flyable and what not. Maybe the part of the map that cannot be flown on should be deleted from the map PWCG uses (if that's possible at all).

In your case, you could fly the mission as far as you can and then patrol some more on the flyable side and RTB.

The Moscow map is weird because it is the only map in the RoF/BoS series that has unflyable areas.  Every other map the entire map is flyable.  There is always something that can be done but work is prioritized.  In the meantime, if you get such a mission, scrub it and generate another one.

In this case: PWCG already knows about map boundaries and will not run missions off of the map.  Now I need map boundaries and flyable boundaries and I need to use the right one in the right situation.  Example, flights and units should only be in flyable boundaries but objects should be in map boundaries.  Not extremely difficult but also not entirely simple.

Per the patterns: I looked up actual search patterns and developed algorithms to use them.  I like the cross pattern the best.

Patrick, at this time I can not up date Java as there is a compatibility issue with my browser (Google) and Java 8 at this time. It was recommend that I use a different browser, I am going to check with my IT guy and see what he has to say.  So for now I will stick with 2.1, thanks.

Hi Taxman, it is more likely a safety issue, than compatibility. This is well known with Java, but I never heard, that someone really had any problems with it. When I get those warnings in Firefox, there is always a link for further information. When I click on it, a window pops up, where I can apply or delete the download, and when applying, it runs without problems. And neither my antivirus- nor my antimalware program have any problems with Java.

Hello Patrick,

I've been doing this LA5 mission 4 times. 2 Times all three wing man drove into the grass on the right side of the runway end and crashed there (I am the number 4 in the flight).

1 Time only the leader crashed and no 3 and 4 managed to get airborne and 1 time no 1 and 2 crashed and 3 got (barely) airborne.

I'm having no problems taking of myself, the wind is calm, some 40 degrees from SB.

Here's the mission:

Missions.zip

EDIT:

It seems to be a problem for the LA5 in general. Just did another mission and the no1 crashed again. Because he did not despawn, the numbers 2 and 3 kept circling the base, doing nothing.

Yogiflight and Patrick,

Thanks for help, but Google Chrome is giving me fits ref. Java 8.  There is a Chrome D/L for Java 8 which should enable the correct Java D/L however that appears not to work, tried 3 times but no go.   As I stated earlier I'm going to take my computer to my IT guy, this will be done Monday, and I'm sure he will figure it out.  BTW there is also some other work I want to be done as well, so this Java 8 issue is just one more.

Again thanks.
