Hi Pat,

         just flew 4 Emil missions with SG1. Each mission plane set up had one bomb per a/c, however in the actual mission none of the 4 a/c were equipped with a bomb.

Hi Patrick,

 

I downloaded version 1.2 yesterday and it works very nice but i still see circling flights (All friendly though). 

 

I also installed LukeFF's reworked squadron layout and i think this introduces a new problem with the squadrons that are placed further from the frontline. I flew a long patrol for JG 52 in november over Stalingrad and there are no buildings. It's the same with small villages and airfields. Is there a limit in the mission builder for generating static objects?

Hi Mac,

 

How long did you wait? Loading PWGC mission takes longer. As soon as the red loading bar is full, you have to wait an extra 10/20 seconds.

Missing structures are not because of Luke`s work.

I have seen it since the beginning BoS PWCG. What Ground unit density setting are you using? I have usually chosen the medium to cut mission loading times. Maybe with high settings there is all buildings in place.

Well, the top line says Max friendly flights less than min, so you need to address this:

Go to Advanced config - Mission Limits - and set max enemy flight - min enemy flights and max enemy planes to sensible settings.

I believe this should allow the program to start generating missions.

Change the Min friendly flights to the same or bigger as the Max figure and you are good to go.

That is the result of a bug in my simple config code.  The solution is as Zami states, change it in advanced config.  It will be fixed int he next release, which will not be too long in coming.

I don't even get to the loading bar. As soon as I push the Button "Load Mission" I get stuck in that screen. I've waited several minutes but no progress.

Questions:

Does the bar advance at all?
PWCG mission loads generally get to the end and then you have to wait.  The bar is not a good indicator of progress.  
 
Try this:
1. Take leave for at least one week and generate another mission.  If you regenerate the same mission (same campaign, same date) BoS will load a cached version and not the new one, so altering the campaign date is crucial.

At fist i used low settings for air en ground density. But i also tried high density for ground units (Objects?), but i was still missing a lot of building in Stalingrad en villages around the city. 

 

And i mentioned LukeFF's work because of the longer flights. I thought it was a distance thing.

I have seen missing structures in vanilla PWCG version also. And not only in Stalingrad where it is most obvious. There`s something missing but I have no idea of the cause.

Hi Patrick,

 

I did what you suggested and set the odds of escorted missions to 0.

 

I did not observe any of the nasty actions of the AI so far (them following me in their numbers).

I tested just 2 missions today, so it needs a bit more testing, but so far so good.

Eliminating or reducing escorts is one possibility.  Another is further reducing enemy flights.  I will verify, but I'm pretty sure that PWCG does not produce more flights than requested.  However, if you have six enemy flights, three of which are fighters and two of which are escorted you can quickly get 20 enemy fighters in the sky.  Personally I like the idea of reducing escort odds and then limiting max to 4 flights.

Looks like an AI flight was generated without any virtual WPs.  That is an unexpected scenario,  I'll have a look.

Hi again Pat,

                   further to my post above every time I add a bomb to my a/c in game or change the no. of pilots from 2 to 4 in PWCG in this campaign the mission does not appear in BoS or if it does it wont load???

I reduced enemy flight by quite a bit. I set the max enemy flights to 3, the max enemy planes to 6 and the variable to 1. I therefor was expecting 7 enemy aircraft at the most.

Since I was regimentally attacked on a regular basis, something had to be off.

Your suggestion that the escort may have been the culprits have done wonders for my game. It's set to 0 since 2 days. I have flown some 20 missions since that and have not been attacked by those numbers. In fact, I'm thinking of upping the enemy aircraft and enemy flight variables.

I'll leave the escort at 0 for the time being.

 

To me it looks like: Problem solved.

I'll attach a mission where you start as no 4 of a 4 ship attack group of E7's to do a ground attack. Shortly after take off you will be accompanied by 4 F4's as escort. The player always gets an escort, no matter what you set the escortodds at.

So we're flying with 8 109's and we are being attacked by 4 yaks.

If you play this mission, watch where the Yaks are focussed on.

In my game all 4 chase me and me alone.

@Bando: separate issues.  The player does always get an escort.  That is as designed.  So being attacked by 4 Yaks does not sound unreasonable.

 

Now on to the issue of all of the Yaks attacking you.  I will look at the mission.  I believe that I tell every fighter to attack every enemy airplane.  That can be determined by the targets in the attack MCU.  If after telling every fighter plane to attack every (and therefore any) enemy plane and they all decide to attack the player I'm not sure what to do.  I do occasionally play and I can state that I do not see this.  The AI is quite happily attacking each other and not singling me out at all.

I just tried your mission and no problems for me. Yaks concentrated to my flight leader as they usually do in my missions. I even shot one down while he was attacking the flight leader.

I hate to sound mean and snarky and I'm really not trying to be, but check the way that you fly.  It might not even be that you are flying badly but you may be flying in a way that the AI thinks "yummy".  

 

The AI is going to do an algorithm check to determine best target/greatest threat.  Distance, position and altitude are going to be key.  The AI is not going to think like a human.  Every AI will make an independent decision but they will do it using the same algorithm.  They will not think in terms of team work and will frequently deprioritize survival.  As a result that flight of Yaks might all come to the conclusion that you are the best target and chase you.  I have foud that once I get a bit of distance and especially if I get some altitude I don't look very inviting to the AI.

It is a strange matter.

I tried this particular mission 5 times.

First time I noticed my wingmen to drop their bomb and engage. I did try to push on towards the target area and had all 4 Yaks on my tail.

Second time I also dropped my bomb and turned towards the enemy aircraft. As they were higher, they had the advantage they dictated the fight. I was chased by 4 Yaks, while the other 7 109's managed to down one, I got shot.

Third time I decided to fight back instead of being defensive, but I also tried to perform the manoeuvres my flight performed. Again, 4 Yaks on my tail and mine alone.

Mission 4 + 5 were more or less the same as 3.

 

I don't know what to say. I'm not the best pilot out there, and maybe because of that I had 5 out of 5 times all 4 Yaks chasing me.

 

I'll try to climb some further, zoom longer and see if this helps.

I also have that weird issue with AI chasing only me, even when I`m flying right beside the leader, I dont know, it appears to random, as right now I'm playing a campaign with SG1 flying E7's and I never had that issue.

 

One problem that I have is that when I get ground attack missions, if I go to plane setup screen, it appears that I have a 250kg and armored windscreen, but in-game I get a "clean" E7. Another issue is that the AI arent landing, assuming we do our mission sucessfully and manage to RTB safely, they just keep circling around the AF.

This AI chasing issue is not PWCG related IMO. It is about AI decision making as Pat stated and unfortunately there is nothing he can do about that. Only devs can fix that. And of course there is some randomness always involved with these things. Sometimes you just have bad luck but 5 times in a row is a bit strange.

 

I am 100% sure you are at least as good pilot as me Bando  ;) . So it`s not question about that. But you might try those measures you stated in your post, might be helpful.

 

BTW bombs didn`t load in that mission of yours. Setup screen showed armored windscreen and a bomb but nothing in mission. Apparently you had them?

You're right. The bombs did not load on the planes of the wingmen. 

For myself, I always make sure I load the bomb manually (I select the bomb(s) myself) so that I'm sure it's there).

It happens sometimes that PWCG says your loaded with bombs, while rockets are on the wings, so therefor I do it myself.

 

Been playing this mission several times after last night. I always get ALL the Yaks chasing me, no matter what I do.

In vanilla it never happened.

 

Maybe I need to delete the whole bunch and start fresh.

But i have one issue with ground attack..When i take out a ground Object and pops back up again after a minute or so..

Any sugestions??Anyone else seen the same problem??

In the case of front line AA, airfield AA or anything that is "manned" by a crew of infantryman on the ground make sure you have actually destroyed the artillery piece or hardware... Sometimes the crew just gets scared off and will come back after a few moments to an undamaged artillery piece so that they can resume firing.

Anyone tested PWCG with 1.107 patch ?

 

Anyways, before the patch I had a bug where one of my squadmates got shotdown behind enemy lines and after the sortie it was stated on the Journal that he bailed behind enemy lines and was captured, but he's still on the squadron and can fly normally... I even tested it by manually assigning him on the next sortie, he flew with me and even shot down a lagg... maybe he escaped his prison camp, who knows...   :lol:

Pat, there is an issue with the AI attempting to take off from Srednaya Ahtuba. Every time, one of the planes crashes into trees near the end of the runway.

Yes that was my thoughts to Space ghost,but when the AA explodes they keep coming back in a minute..

Dont you have the same problem??

I had a similar problem, but I dont know if its PWCG related. What happened is that the ground target for some reason showed the explosion, but it wasnt really destroyed and I had to do a second pass on the bugger and when I shot it, this time it got destroyed. I dont know, maybe thats the issue ?

Also, I remember having issues with frontline AA getting respawned after being destroyed on the earlier versions of PWCG, didnt test with the lastest one though.

The AAA along the front is set up to spawn and go away as planes pass over it.  If you shoot one up and then leave hte area it is entirely possible that it will respawn.  Not to self - expand the distance to account for WWII speeds.
