Sometimes I see them all crash, sometimes they all make it, and sometimes one out of the three will crash. It seems like not climbing steeply after takeoff helps, but it's not always a guarantee.

Willy__ Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I dont know if its related or not, but I noticed while fighting the AI, they always, ALWAYS pull up if you dive too close to the ground, even if they have clear shot of you. Maybe is something hardcoded on the AI ?

Maybe is something hardcoded on the AI ? Yep, they do that very often. They could shoot you but pull up before taking a shot. Maybe their safe altitude is set too high on those cases. It`s too easy to escape AI by just flying at low altitude. I have reported this to the bug thread. But on the other hand AI hit the ground quite often so something wrong with their low altitude behaviour. AI still need`s some work by devs to be satisfactory. Edited August 4, 2015 by Zami

I'm flying mission 8 of the Fw 190 mission set right now, and every_single_time one of my planes crashes on takeoff. It doesn't matter if I fly a nice, gentle flight path after takeoff - one of them will crash every darn time. This is ridiculous. These missions are demanding enough as it is (which I like), but having to fly them with less than a full Schwarm is getting irritating. Edited August 8, 2015 by LukeFF

I`m waiting for take off clearance (which is given immediately after starting mission 8), full power for take off and after take off trying to gain some altitude as fast as possible. Maybe it`s a problem, when the AI is getting too close to the own aircraft after take off. When I look at the other aircraft, I can see some strange maneuvers after their take off. They gain some altitude and then going down again, some up and downs. But if you have sufficient altitude they won`t hit the ground in their strange behaviour. It`s true, something should be changed with AI at take off. Don`t know if it`s a problem only for the Fw190.

Try to start careful, the follow AI will start better. Note this Missions work without Player Waypoints this is why the AI will follow the Player in all Situations.

It does seem to be heavily dependent on the positioning of the AI on the runway at takeoff. In mission 10, they take off just fine without crashing. Hopefully the team can have a look at this at some point. Maybe it`s a problem, when the AI is getting too close to the own aircraft after take off. That's what it's looking like to me. The AI tends to overtake the player's plane on the runway, and as a result they try these weird maneuvers after taking off.

Maybe my Stuka problem is because I throttle up more gently to avoid engine damage and this confuses the AI? I think this is it. The AI take off at full kick and if the player, who's the leader, does anything short of full throttle they get all confused and crash.

Hi ChiefWH, this is not addressed at me, but nevertheless I want to give an answer. Luke reported this AI behaviour in the Beta-test. Even more than once, when I remember right. I`m not a programmer, but I can imagine, that issues concerning the AI are not as easy to resolve as some optical glitches in the outside model or some wrong texts in the cockpits. AI is deeply hidden in the coding of the game. The developers are aware of that problem and will do their very best (as they always do) to resolve such problems, as soon as there is time for it. (off topic: btw Luke is one of the most active testers in Beta-test. Sometimes I wonder, how he finds all those small graphical errors and mistakes. I guess, he has to stare for hours at the cockpits ) 1

It probably stems in part from my job, which essentially requires me to look and listen closely for any errors or problems.

This was the fix for me, running full throttle for takeoff. AI does not seem to be able to cope if you aren't running full throttle, slows down just after takeoff and crashes.

I haven`t had wingman take off crash for a long time. Full throttle at take off and fly straight and smoothly for a 10-15 seconds after that.

I crash more than the AI's some days unfortunately.

The narration of the navigator calling out course corrections, crewmen calling out warnings about flak, and the sound of the radioman receiving and then reporting on enemy fighter sightings all combine to make these missions, very, very well-done. I'm hoping he gives the Ju 88 similar treatment! 1
