J-Hat takes on the Desert Fox...and wins!!!

Video made from his VR headset from the Work-In-Progress Virtual Reality Visual Update beta.

He lights up a DAK convoy with some amazing marksmanship with his Hurricane llc 20 mm Hispanos.

In the Full Mission Builder J-Hat introduced 15 knot winds blowing in from 090 up to an altitude of 1800 feet - with gusts!  Nothing like a challenge in a strafing attack.

Please note that the dark shadows and high-gamma terrain are still very much being worked on by Team Fusion.

Take cover!!!!!

is the terrain 4k?

The Clouds are wonderful :)

Thanks for sharing.

The shadows and brightness of the terrain are disappointing to see after so long in development but it is beta so not too worrying.

Odd question but will Speedtree also have desert foliage/brush available as those blobs of green grass look really out of place?

Final question, can we see a similar video with a late setting sun and longer shadows cast by the vehicles?

Thanks for sharing.

Superb work! it's nice  ?

FPS is visible only fleetingly. Would be great if it could be positioned so as to be onscreen most or all of the time. Great vid. Thanks!

@Veteran66 yeah, should be the new 4k ones. I got used to them now but I remember the difference it was to the terrain textures from stable when I first saw the new terrain. I think they look very nice and not the same everywhere.

@Mysticpuma yeah, shadows aren‘t looking too good yet and the very lit terrain scared me the first time I saw it when landing. But TFS has already acknowledged they will be working on it still when I reported that. So it should look better before release (hopefully already in one of the next updates).
You are saying the green scrubs are out of place generally or just at a specific location? Asking this because looking at pictures of the Lybian and Egyptian deserts there are photos that look very much like that. Just don‘t know exactly where that is (google maps isn‘t sharp enough to recognize anything…). There is also the rocky areas in the desert without the vegetation, which are present in the game now (can‘t remember how it was before).

And the „weird“ brown grass

About the dawn / dusk videos I‘ll let TFS answer. Last I heard was they are still WIP (lightning I guess). Haven‘t really checked them in game either.

@Dagwoodyt I wouldn‘t know how to put the fps more to the center of the screen. The info windows are moveable and all, like they always have been, but fps is just stuck up there. That‘s also why sometimes I need to look up to see it. And that‘s when it shows in the video.

TFS still needs to optimize VR. I imagine they will do it only when they have completed implementation (e.g. shadows, bugs, crashes etc.). But in this particular mission performance was the usual. At 45 and thereabouts while in the action with the smoke stacks and aircraft around me, then 60-70 from what I remember when in other areas and about 90 when closer to landing from what I remember. But all in all gameplay is smooth. I can aim just fine, there are no hiccups (maybe once in a while when voice sounds load I’ve noticed) or long load pauses. Feels smooth all the way.

There is one thing that may seem like bad performance or stutters, and that is when I tried to move my mouse with independent mode disabled (or enabled?). When the mouse moves your head. It fights what your headset is sending and the view judders until you stop moving your mouse or hit F10. Happens quite a few times when I go for the map or try to click something. Specially after being in external view.

@Semor76 you didn‘t like the clouds? Not sure I got the reaction to Veteran’s post.

@9./JG52_J-HAT I suppose one thing I didn't take into account was the landscape brightness which is likely affecting the brightness shrubbery too ?

Really appreciate all the videos. Please keep them coming as things progress?

@9./JG52_J-HATAnother great video of what people want to see  with solid and honest interaction to follow.

Somewhere, in a little corner of England, TFS better be building a shrine  to you

My takeaways where the hurri pit looks sharper, the bushes being ever present make a welcome change from DCS pop up but some variance in size and spread would perhaps look a little better. Still many rough edges but it doesnt look "old" in comparison to the other titles.

Thanks for the time and effort.

@9./JG52_J-HAT perhaps FRAPS maybe of use = dunno if it works in 3D but there are other programs for that - I know tin FRAPS I can run a benchmark so potentially could set a 3 min sample and publish the min/max average.

I apprecite all the eyes are on VR but 2D is still more common so a mix if the two would still be grand.

FRAPs or Afterburner work for 2d just fine. Not sure if it shows in the hmd view I use to record at all or if it stays in the corner somewhere out of view. Gotta try it out.

The way VR is implemented does not allow me to record the 2D view with what I am seeing in game. You would see the fps counter but not what I am playing.

2D videos are obviously also doable. It runs like stable I‘d say. I guess I could think about a video in 2D to record. Maybe some specific campaign mission.

I‘d prefer to wait until TFS has done the needed optimizations before posting benchmarks tbh outside of the beta forums.

Right now it wouldn‘t be representative of the final state.
That GB is the gold standard for VR performance is an accepted truth. I believe TFS would measure performance compared to that and try to achieve similar results in the end .

@Veteran66 I‘ll see with TFS and if I can make some good ones ?

It's still a private beta ten months in. I don't think there is much danger that many will believe benchmarks can't be improved before the Update gets released. Seems there is greater upside to showing progress stages than risk.

I respect @9./JG52_J-HATs position in this. It’s a fine line he treads very adeptly between openness and the NDR. Would be a shame to have everything reigned back in now.

Between J-hat , Riley and now @Gunfreak we are getting a decent flow of content from the beta which appears to be having the added benefit keeping us from trying to kill each other most of the time.

Of course the reservations and criticisms some of us hold still remain but now at least they are tempered by something positive too.
