PWCG for Flying Circus

Not sure if anyone else experiences this and if it was already reported but quite often I get this message popping up midgame (see spoiler for saving space).

I just need to click ok and everything just works well as far as I can tell so it isn't such a big deal. But sometimes it happens 4-6 times in a row and it is a bit distracting midfight.

I saw the videos, but it doesn't work.

I unzipped the PWCGFC folder to my il2 directory. And inside the PWCGFC folder I clicked PWCG.exe, and the java program start.
But inside the il2sturmovik game I can't see any options to run or start the PWCGFC campaign

What @gad11 said.

In a little more detail: PWCG is just a Java program.  The game has no idea that PWCG exists.  PWCG creates mission files that to the game, look just like a hand made mission file from the Mission Editor.  You fly them just like a single mission by accessing the Missions folder.  Which mission to fly is obvious: it contains the name of your campaign and your current campaign date.

Before you actually fly the mission make sure that logging is enabled for the game.  When you make a mission  in PWCG it will scan the startup.cfg file and warn you if logging is not enabled.  This will cause the game to generate text event logs.  When you are done flying the mission you go back to PWCG to submit a combat report.  If you score any victories make sure that you claim them otherwise you will not be credited.  PWCG reads the event log, matches it with the event logs, determines what happened in the. mission, simulates stuff happening outside of the mission, and then on to a new day.

Details are in the videos.  Each video is less than 5 minutes and often only two or three minutes long, so I am not asking that you watch every season of Game of Thrones to figure out PWCG :) .

Last note: if you are coming from RoF you may be used to automatically starting a mission from PWCG.  The 1C developers actually created hooks for this to happen - i.e. the ability to start the game and, using command line arguments, go directly to a mission.  Such a capability does not exist in BoX or FC, so you have to alt-tab between PWCGand the game.

Thanks a lot for the explanation!
Because I was used to RoF's interface that recognized PWCG

Hi

First of all, a big thank you to Pat for Creating the Campaign Generator!

Now to the problem: I have only flown two missions from the PWCG so far and, although I landed back at base, they were both reported as failures.  In the first mission, two of my flight crashed and in the second it was just a flight around a balloon and back.  We all survived, although I did land first and the other three were still flying around with no particular desire to land when I finished the mission.

Could anyone explain why I am failing missions?  Is it because I'm not waiting for everyone else to land, or is this a known bug, or am I doing something else wrong?

Cheers!

Not sure.  If you land it should be success.  Note that PWG doesn't really care.  It's just something to produce a result on the after mission splash screen in game.

I don't suppose it really matters, it's just good to be told that you got it right.  It's not like a game-created campaign where you have to succeed to move to the next one.  Just weird.

I tried your FC campaign! It worked like a charm!
But there are some quirks: Let say in a balloon attack mission; we are engaging a balloon and after I shot it down
I become assigned flight lead and my wingmen just head off in a random direction.
Same happened after we finished escorting some bombers over the front.

Is it best to play this game as a flight leader or wingman? I like to start as a "nobody" and work my way up

PWCG 8.0 Beta 4 for FC is up

PWCG 8.0 for FC is up.  I have been holding off on posting an FC beta until now. This one has attempts to fix the planes turning around bug as well as other stuff.  Please be reminded that it's still a beta, but it has been beaten on pretty well by the BoS players.  Give it a go.  Constructive feedback appreciated.

Wow...so far, so good.  All the EA flights I saw stayed on their mission.  Good stuff and THANK YOU!!

Sweet!  covid quarantine vacation just got more tolerable  … thank you Patrick!

Thanks!   Looks good so far.

But how do you get 'Mission Accomplished'  ?    I have flown quite a few missions where the patrol route was flown, the balloon shot down, etc,  and landed safely back at the drome only to find 'Mission Failed'.     Counting kills is fun, but for a mission oriented guy like me, I like to know if the squads efforts are advancing the war effort....

The whole mission accomplished thing is an in game mechanism that PWCG informs but does not care about.  PWCG is coded such that survival = mission accomplished and it used to work that way.  I think something changed in game in terms of mission evaluation because right now it seems like success/failure i semi random.  Since it is not working as intended it is something I will have to revisit, but since PWCG doesn't care one way or the other it's not at the top of my list.

Thanks, until now i have not done much with PWCG ... Maybe a brave move, considering 5.000 is about to be launched?

But i am certainly interested in the FC1 version!

It's just a Java program.  Takes about 5 minutes to install - pretty much an unzip.  Give it a try.  If you don't like it, uninstall is as simple as deleting the PWCG directory so there's not anything to lose.

Just created an FC1 thing, but where can i find the files to load in the game FC1-Arras .. not in MissionData

@jollyjack That is written to by PWCG, so there are no files.  The error that you are getting is pretty odd.  It's not finding the player in the mission.  Can you press the Report Error button at the bottom left of the campaign and upload the zip file?

Is this problem happening on every mission?

PWCG 8.2.0

Changed trigger for battles to have them trigger when player is close.  Will reduce occurrences of battle being over when you get there.
Bugs:
Fixed error where PWCG was failing to take wounded squadron members into account when staffing a flight
Fixed error where adding a new pilot would fail for an SP campaign when there was no coop user.

New to the Game. Great work on the missions.

Thank you

Hi Patrick,

I've run into a problem in Flying Circus and now I can't generate a new mission. I had just been promoted and decided to transfer to a new squadron so that I could fly the Camel. Trouble is, now I can't generate a new mission, I tried cleaning out the old mission but still no joy.

I hope you can help, otherwise my career is at an end! ?

In my Camel career when there is a ground attack mission generated payload for Camels includes bombs but bombs are not attached in the generated mission, nor the wing cut or aldis sight.

Lucky me: i have absolutely NO career. Call me a loser  ☹️

@PatrickAWlson

Hey Patrick, I managed to fix my problem!

In an effort to increase encounters I had upped the limits in the 'Aircraft Numbers' config section, I now realise this is just for your flight. After resetting these I'm now able to generate a new mission. ?

I have installed PWCG into the IL2 great battles directory under steam.  When I try to run it it says I need a Java runtime environment, which I have installed and shows in the program list for the computer.   Despite this the program still asks for Java and sends me to the Java download page, have tried reinstalling, rebooting, running as administrator  etc but can't get past this point.  Any ideas?

Thanks

I seem to have run into a problem in my career, my pilot has the wheelchair symbol next to his name and I'm unable to proceed further. Is this career over, or is it a bug stopping me from proceeding?

I think you have to take leave until you are well. Then continue your career.

What @Ghost666 said.

When you take leave PWCG will tell you how many days are needed.

Yeah, I did try that but it's stuck in a loop saying I need to take 17 days leave but then going back to the same date as before?

OK, I've attached the campaign zip and the relevant section of the log file. Hopefully you'll be able to fix it so I can finish my career! ?

Thanks for trying, Patrick. Are there any files I can modify to reset it - could you send me the campaign that you were able to advance?

Also, what version of Java are you running?
