hedger72 Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 (edited) This is one fantastic DD - round of applause to the dev team - so many things to be excited about! Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, as I simply skimmed this thread, but the cockpit on the P-38 is downright stunning!!! Of course, with that big control yoke in the way, VR will be a required upgrade in order to be able to read all of the gauges...time to start saving! Edited August 16, 2019 by hedger72
MeoW.Scharfi Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 The P51D stopped my breath for a moment. ?? 2

CIA_Yankee_ Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 Anyone else noticed the 2 different engine controls for the Pony? Looks like we'll be getting some sort of mod for automatic engine controls, or two different power plants or some such... Anyone know what those two options should be?

Nah not yet because its WIP and we're still tweaking so I don't want you guys nit picking everything until we're fully happy with it. This was just a tease to show that we have the tech after years of complaints about 10km limit. It's not all that easy to spot them, but eagle eye players will see them. When they are in motion and not in a screenshot it is a bit easier and the lighting and the weather etc. has an effect. And don't expect to zoom in and see stuff way out there. Zoom doesn't really help you on this. Real pilots did not have zoom. Zoom still has an effect when you are closer to help with IDing bogies. Just develop your long range eyeballs guys. Here are the answers. One has some contrails of bandits circling at Nine O'clock and some others are just below the contrail limit that are a bit closer. The second has some bogeys down low in the ground clutter milling about since I was not a threat. I just set up a QMB and ran away from them at high speed then turned around and tried to spot. Took a few seconds. Not sure of the exact distance, but somewhere between 15-25km. Just no way of telling with how I set this up. Wasn't a scientific test. But it is a ways beyond 10km because I watched the icon turn off at 10km then I kept flying for a little while. Jason 3 6
Thad Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 Jason, I have full faith and confidence that no matter what you ultimately present in sighting distances, that there will be complainers and 'nit pickers'. Gotta love this community. ?

Voidhunger Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 hehe I cant see planes at 10km on my monitor, so its not for me ☹️
J2_Bidu Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 All this brings the need of a new feature: applying multiple emoticons to a post. ???❤️?

AKA_Big10 Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 (edited) On the P-51, I know it's still a WIP project, but do you guys plan to fill the panel lines? Also, only the flaps and ailerons were left in natural metal while the wing got painted a silver/aluminum lacquer paint. Very nice work so far and looking forward to flying VR with the new planes. FlyingNutcase Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 What's to add that hasn't been said prior but Petrovich - that was a very cool read, thank you. It's clear that the physiological modelling has been well thought out, and will clearly impact gameplay (positively by the look of it). A beautiful set of planes on the horizon and maps etc. Some concern that the long distance visibility will only benefit those with perfect eyesight but time will tell. Thanks Jason & Team. The last quarter of the year is looking especially goodly. ? 1
=SqSq=Civilprotection Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 @71st_AH_Yankee_ If you are referring to the change in the throttle quad, that change is to add easy ranging functionality to the gyro sight via a twist grip. You can already see this change in game on the P-47 w/ the gyro.

Underneath the grip and hidden by it? Anyway, this is easily the best update in a long time. So close I can almost taste it! And I gotta say it is really cool to see all the new features being added. Not only are we getting a new theatre with amazing planes, but the sim itself keeps getting deeper and more realistic, while at the same time getting cool new features like the picture. Great work, devs. Keep it coming! As for the collector's planes, B-25 and Spit XIV will get my money instantly. Edited August 16, 2019 by 71st_AH_Yankee_ 1
40plus Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 Jimminey Cricket. Even with Jason's red circles I can't see a thing. Doesn't bode well for VR spotting. Will target icons in SP also extend out to the new draw distance? 1
Night0wl Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 awesome DD, looking great as usual. Does anyone know what the attacker / bomber lineup for axis gonna be? i play mostly attack planes and im guessing its going to be the already existing bf110 g2 and me 410 perhaps? i think the stuka was withdrawn from the western front by this time?
Tapi Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 (edited) Very cool DD. Can't wait for the new pilot's physiology model as well as for the increased a/c spotting distance. Though I like new planes, the news about enhancing core sim features are always the most important for me. Thanks very much devs for your work! Edited August 16, 2019 by Tapi 3
JG5_Schuck Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 Great work as always...... Lets just hope the technochat doesn't warn you of the onset of 'Greyout' 'Blackout' and 'G-lock' !!!!! Having experienced it myself it also leaves you feeling disoriented for a while after! The effort is much appreciated, Thanks...

Stuka was withdrawn as early as 1942 from the western front, I believe. Even in the BoB it took extremely heavy losses. The go-to attack aircraft is going to be the FW-190s in Jabo configuration. The lion's share of the Luftwaffe striking capability was in those types of aircraft, as well as Me-262s as fast bombers. 110s were few in number from 1944 onward and most of them were I believe being used as night fighters. As an example, the Operation Bodenplatte that the sim takes its name from was conducted entirely by Bf-109s and FW-190s with bombs (and I believe some me-262s).

=TBAS=Blade66 Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 (edited) During World War II, there was a practice of leaving the machine by turning it over. In this way, the pilot just needed to unfasten the belts, then the force of gravity did its job. The diary says that now, if a pilot is injured, it will be more difficult for him to leave the plane. Question: will this feature (with turning a plane over) be implemented? This will help to leave the plane much faster. Edited August 16, 2019 by Drinkis

JG4_Sputnik Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 (edited) Very nice update! Love the work on the fatigue system and the planes! I really do hope that the new fatigue system also limits head turning also - it is for me somewhat the most unrealistic feature nobody complains about. 1Km/h too fast or too slow and everybody is screaming, but nobody minds turning his head 180 degrees like a cock while flying acrobatics... Thanks for all the work, cheers! Edited August 16, 2019 by JG4_Sputnik 1 6

I don't think the Luftwaffe or VVS had any equivalent, though the FW-190 pilot position apparently helped deal with G forces a bit.

I wonder if that will be a mod, or just be determined at the onset by which plane is being flown.

I suspect it will be determined by plane type. There would never be any reason to not take the mod and G-suits were available for the entire time period of Bodenplatte as far as I know, so no reason to lock them at certain times of the campaign.
