Mission update on Doullens /Cambrai

Added: Recon rewards (A searchlight will spawn in the hangar closest to the windsock after you landed your recon flight and your plane is stationary. The searchlight is damaged when it spawns, therefore you will only see the what looks like a little hubcap in the hangar. Shoot it with you personal weapon to score the points for your successfull recon. It doesn't matter on which active friendly airfield you'll land.)

Fixed: Repositioned the repair truck at Braizieux to be more accessible. (Thanks @Oliver88 for reporting)

I took the assigned plane - which came equipped with photo, by the way, and not radio - and flew over the battery as well as in the area and never made contact.

Not sure what I was doing wrong? Do you have to un-equip the Photo gear from the plane marked Artillery Spotting at Braizieux, and re-equip with Radio?

If it had a photo camera equipped you took the wrong plane. The plane for the artillery mission is labeled "Artillery Spotter" and it comes with a radio equipped by default.

Roadmap for Doullens /Cambrai:

WIP: Seperate Recons/Change Recon script/reward planes/Add more airfields

WIP: Recon can land at any active airfield

WIP: Cities and towns status

WIP: Historical squad and plane distribution

WIP: Recon rewards

WIP: Randomizing targets in every sector (33% done)

@JG1_Butzzell

Seems might be an issue with one of your missions. This ended after 10 mins without much happening in the mission. Saw the German AI bombers get schwacked (and I chased and shot one down / it collided with another player). Then the mission ended, here is the one in question;

@Oliver88 The map rotated manually to push some needed mission updates.

Hey are you guys going to incorporate that new  comm program that was in last release. Disclaimer I have no idea what that comm program is or if it's even compatible with WWI-land. I just assumed it was a chat thing.

Don't know.   We'll be looking into it.  Curious what players think the advantage/disadvantage of it vs. Discord is.  Discord has been a handy way to provide real-time status/info regarding Flugpark and receive feedback/info from players when something isn't right.

Yeh just hopped on the server. And the SRS for Flugparks not been setup for auto connection. I had to enter those server details you posted above manually to connect.

Mission update Doullens/Cambrai:

I am glad to announce that the more or less final mission update of Doullens/Cambrai is ready and currently in review. I clocked 200h+ on that mission in the Mission Editor. At the end that thing got quite complex and complicated and bigger than I originally planned it to be.

Starting my work on that mission in October 2019 my goal was to make it as close to what a day in the airwar of 1918 could have looked like and to show what is possible with the mighty Mission Editor.

I learned a lot of about what works and what doesn't while working on that mission. I had fun doing this, especially when things worked out as planned but I also had my fair share of frustrating moments. Now I am exhausted but I also have some ideas for another mission project.

Today I can proudly say it is ready, besides some bug fixes (if there are any) and I am very pleased and with the final result. I hope you guys enjoy the mission and it's countless features for the days to come. Salute and blue skies!

Change List:

Added: Radomization of some targets in every sector.

Edit: Updated mission descriptions (added description for balloons and recon points) and tooltips (height information for entente is now in feet)

Spawn: Trains and ships only spawn in after successfull recon tasks now to save server resources

Weather: Increased turbulence from 1 to 3 for every mission

Moved: Entente Airfield from Soncamp to Filescamp

Roadmap for Doullens /Cambrai:

WIP: Seperate Recons/Change Recon script/reward planes/Add more airfields

WIP: Recon can land at any active airfield

WIP: Cities and towns status

WIP: Historical squad and plane distribution

WIP: Recon rewards

WIP: Randomizing targets in every sector

WIP: Bug fixes

Feature List Doullens Cambrai:

- The mission is available in three different day times (dawn/noon/dusk)

- Historical planeset for a summer 1918 mission

- Historical Squadrons / Jastas located at their airfields (where I could research the information on)

- Discriminating frontline  AAA

- AA MGs positioned along the trenchlines

- AI two seater flights patrolling the frontlines

- Winchable and historically heavily defended balloons that control the effectivness of all the AAA and AA MGs in the sector

- Recon tasks that mark random targets on the map and can be finished at any active friendly airfields.

- Scoring rewards for recon tasks in form of spawning a pre damaged searchlight in the hangar closest to the windsocks

- Better plane rewards for accomplished recon tasks to put an emphasis on team play

- Scripted artillery spotting tasks where you can actually see the shells impacting near the target until it is destroyed

- War torn cities and towns with smoke coloums rising to reflect the state of France in 1918

- Randomized targets that the mission feels different everytime we play it

Thanks to J5 for the cooperation and for hosting the missions!

Sizzlorr, we may have found a bug or two: the Entente recon A activates quite a bit to the south of the actual recon Area, over the Central airfield. Also, while landing two recons at the same time, only the 1st plane gets the message. 2nd plane didn't. Attempting to take off and land might have worked, but hit the prop and broke the plates!... :)

Great job on the updates Siz, thank you for that.

The turbulance on 3 might be to excessive though, can you at least randomize it? On 3 it is even hard to spot contacts sometimes.

Sizzlorr, I was flying the 'Doullens to Cambrai-Dawn' mission and I noticed that although in the mission briefing it is stated that wind comes FROM the E (90 degrees), the windsock at Flaicourt airfield definitely shows wind coming from the W to the E (270 degrees). Maybe you need to check that.

A little hotfix is ready for Doullens Cambrai:

Tweaked: Lowered Trubulence level from 3 to 2

Tweaked: Different Cloud heights and wind setting for each mission

Tweaked: Flak is less leathal in general. Overall AI Flak skill is lowered by 1

Fixed: A bug that caused the entente recon planes to do 5 instead of 4 runs over the recon areas

Fixed: Recon tooltips for entente have the height information in feet now instead of meters

Thx for those welcome fixes!

I rechecked the location of entente Recon A but it sits right over the city of Etaing where it is supposed to be.

Very odd. We were much to the South when the recon message appeared quite unexpectedly, and all went normally except it was in the wrong place. No navigation mistake is possible. I coukd clearly see the sword lake way to the North from where I was. Will have to try it again. Thank you!

Thanks for the turbulence drop. Was actually quite dizzying until like 2500m. Felt like the plane had tailplane damage and I seriously considered that I had busted up the tailplane on takeoff at points lol.

Couldn't imagine what that would have been like in VR. Vomit factory.

For future thought, can you change turbulence as the day progresses? Usually in the mornings in the cooler air the turbulence is not so bad. Maybe have lighter turbulence in your morning and evening times and rougher in the midday maps? Just an idea.

Thanks again for all your work. Map certainly felt newer and unique last night when I flew.

Yeah it  was to a point where it was no longer fun flying.

Believe that Combat Box has done some randomisation of weather for their scenarios. But think that was more on the line of scripts run each day to edit the mission files and change the weather.

That is possible, but you can't change the weather in an ongoing mission...

Not sure whether this is server/stats specific or mission specific. After going and bombing the ammo dump near Moslains (made available and shown on map after someone did the recon in the southern sector) last night I've noticed on the parser that completing this objective does not reward the bomber for having done so (other than furthering the aim of winning the mission and the reward that provides). The ammo dump object appears to reward no score.

This is parser specific. Maybe @J5_Baeumer can have a look at this...

Same goes for the fuel dump then I guess...

Little mission update on Doullens Cambrai:

Fixed: Airfiield AAA will not attack searchlight anymore

Optimisations: Deleted Bridges, Cities, Airfields, Barbed Wire and Gun Positions outside of the mission boundaries to save server ressources.

Weather: Wind and turbulence is now more moderate in the dawn missino (0 turbulence) and in the dusk mission (1 turbulence). It is still quite heavy in the noon mission (2 turbulence)
