From England with Love - SP scripted campaign [Spitfire Mk.Vb]

Hi Guy's

I'm new to BOS but have flown CLOD and DCS for many years.

Awesome work on the campaign Jade, loving it so far (trying to complete mission 3 safely).

I notice a few people have mentioned that they are (or have) played it Cooperatively and was wondering how you converted it from SP to Co-op?

I would love to play through with a few of my friends and have a limited knowledge of the Editor. Is it just a matter of adding a few other (Playable) Spits to the group and re saving it as a Co-op mission or is it more complex than that?

An explanation or a converted mission file I could look through would be much appreciated.

Cheers in advance.

Dai

Jade,

After a bit of research, I believe I found the solution to some players of your Spitfire campaign having difficulty taking off, particularly from the grass fields at the beginning of the campaign.  I went to the Air Combat Tutorial Library on You Tube and watched the clip on flying the Spitfire Mk V.  It noted that the rudder should be set to full starboard and that the pitch should be set to one increment down in preparation for takeoff.  After using these setting I've had no problems taking off from the grass fields.  Hope this helps as I've always enjoyed your missions and this campaign.

Thanks @Falcon41, i hope that can help other pilots with the taxiing.

Hey Jade_Monkey, I played through your campaign and really enjoyed it. Thanks for all the work I know went into it!

I had some trouble with getting airborne in the 3rd mission also but when I realized you gave us a stiff tailwind (thanks for that btw) the solution was just to slowly get to the other side of the field and turn around and take off into the wind. The AI  didn’t have any problem taking off right away which was deceptive.

The Spitfire VB has always been my favorite dogfighting plane so I am hoping to see a lot more of it somewhere. I have started making missions again so I can do some ground pounding in the P47 so don’t be surprised if I hit you up for some noob advice in the Mission Editor. I have not used it since FB1946 and it is quite complicated.

Thank you again Jade_Monkey for a great campaign.

Unfortunately the mission descriptions are not displayed (I play the german version of the game, but an english description would be more than fine).

Is there a solution for this?

I wasn't aware of this. Unfortunatelly it's very hard for me to test different language installs.

I am not aware of a fix for this, maybe someone with a non-english install might be able to help you.

Need to do the same for your language.

Thank you very much FoxbatRU!

It works perfect now with english descriptions.

I has read your post before my question, but I thought there are already .ger files inside the campaign folder. To copy the .eng files and rename them to the specified language ending was the trick. I should use the full capacity of my brain the next time. ?

Thank you as well Jade_Monkey for your quick response. Now I can enjoy your campaign as it derserves him.

micro campaign (8 missions) for the Spitfire Mk Vb in Kuban.

Many thanks for the campaign! Loved it. And the fights are varied and the weather. There is where to feel Spitfire.
I made a translation into Russian for myself and used my set of skins.

Thanks @FoxbatRU, would it be ok if I incorporate your translation to the main download of the campaign?

Edit: btw I love that you made all the skins with different numbers ?

Hmm, you might need to upgrade the mission file version with the mission editor. Im going to be away from a computer till Monday but im sure someone can point you to the steps before that. Otherwise ill get back to you then.

Thanks for your early reply !!

Upgrade the mission file version ??? But I dowloaded the file at the beginning of this topic and thought it was the ultimate version of the mission ?

Some game patches make the missions files obsolete and you need to use the ME to convert them.

Ok I started STEditor.exe in IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\editor, which I think is the ME you're talking about, but it appears to complicated to me to do the job ?

I just can't wait until I can convert your mission int he right format so that I can fly it !!..

There are other campaigns/missions made by other guys (for example : PACIFIC MISSIONS, by Wanganui Wildcat's) that I cannot start and that probably could be converted with the same way ?

In that editor, go to the Tools menu, and something like "resave folders"

Then select the folder with the missions or campaigns. It is a slow process, it might take up to 30 min if you have a lot of them.

GREAT !!! It worked perfectly !! Finally very easy to do !!

Many thanks again for your "remote" help !!

In my experience,  if you are spinning when taxiing then the first place to look is your propeller pitch.   I do not know if any Axis planes have the issue but both the Spit Vb and the early PE2 spawn with the pitch at 0% and you need to remember to put it to 100% before taxiing.   It is not helped by the fact that the Spit IX and the later PE2 do not have that issue so you forget you are not in the same aircraft ?     Actually my info may be out of date now as with the last patch it became impossible to even start the engine unless your pitch is at 100%.

JM: i converted it by resave, dumped the misbin, loaded and saved, also tried regenerating the lot, integrity checks as OK, but keep getting this (see pic) on 01-training is over. What to do now?

Found the solution on a tips post on loading older missions from Mike (SAS~StoreBro):

Quote

Fifth thing: Player Enters Plane and Is Kicked Out or Plane Is Destroyed or Goes Underground
Similar thing as before, with a certain update Season Prefixes were introduced.
Open your .mission file and replace the empty Season Prefix line

Code: [Select]
SeasonPrefix = "";

with
Code: [Select]
SeasonPrefix = "wi";

After this change, open your .mission file and re-save it to create a new .msnbin file accordingly.

In this case SeasonPrefix = "su";   did the trick, played first part .... it's great and certainly on par or even better compared the 'commercial' versions selling via store.

Thanks for making it, i get to like Spits, Sturmoviks, and A20s on GB. On Cliffs Beafighters (a bit too slow chasing 109s there) and Hurricanes. J

I think it's 'Save Missions to binary in folder' or words to that effect, in the Tools menu in the STEditor. Works pretty much every time.

Thank you so much for this campaign.

i had a hard time at the beginning to make it work due to version update, but it is really great.

just a question: your campaign seems really similar to the pre-order campaign from il-2 store « Achtung, spitfires! ».... Is there and link?

Just to know If I wasted my money buying the official campaign although I downloaded yours...

I dont know much about that campaign, but they seem to cover the same scenario of VVS Spitfires in Kuban.

I think there are many more missions and was created by a larger group of people, so I'm sure it will be high quality. You can ask them for more info.

Many thanks for your answer, and by the way and essentially, for your outstanding work!

Until now, there has not yet been a campaign about the Ju 88 or He 111. I heard that AI can be a problem. But maybe it will work out? And about the Ju 52. Or about the Fw-190 or Ju 87G in the Kuban.

Well, if you ask for, I can suggest a maybe non-historical campaign with US fighters...

Or, yes, the aerial part of the operation market-garden in Holland

Bomber campaigns definitely have a narrower audience. I think its doable but there are a couple of challenges from the mission builder's perspective:

1) current AI is having challenges Climbing to designated altitude, always too slow to pick up altitude (i think it has to do with the new formation logic).

2) very long and tedious to test. Lots of climb and en-route time.

@Gambit21 created Ju52 very good missions if you are interested.

Perhaps, as an option, not all missions can start on earth? Those. in the first, everything is as it should be - taxiing, take-off, climb. And in some subsequent ones, the start is already in the air.
Regarding the lower demand for bombers, yes. Not everyone tried them. :)

Yes thank you. I know. But I have not tried it yet. Still, I love it when the missions are sewn into one campaign.

They became incompatible back when the sky domes/weather pre-sets changed.

I always intended on going back and updating them but just have never had the extra time.

Hmm, I'm playing a bomber career now. My squadmates keep up with me when I climb to any altitude (haven't climbed above 4km though). They're also pretty accurate in level bombing. I'm not sure if that would be the same if AI is a leader though.

Yeah, it takes a lot of time. Climbing, then flying 150+ km to the target and getting back. Even with time acceleration it's takes a while. For me, getting everything ready for a bombing run helps to kill time during long level flight. After climbing to the desired altitude I take my time by carefully adjusting the bombsight, selecting bomb dropping mode and interval. Then as I'm I'm getting closer to the target I adjust my heading and wind setting, so it's not that bad.

But yeah, most players would find fighter or low level ground attacking campaign more appealing.

I continued to think about it.

on the BoBP, there are rooms to play with the Walcheren preparation campaign.
mostly ground attack and bombing.
this could be a good subject for two campaigns. One from the allies side using UK or US fighters and B-25/A-20 as playable/non-playable supports; and one from the German part defending the last stronghold around Anvers

what do you think
