Game version 3.001 discussion: Final Release of the Battle of Kuban

Do not work in my case and give also a lot of Aircraft relate  messages that I do not want.

You can select several game options to turn off the Technochat and instrument panel so that only the compass and radio messages are displayed on your screen when HUD is enabled.  Spend a little time looking through all of the Settings as there are new options with 3.001.  Good luck ~S:salute:

Hey guys,

did somebody figure out how to get a setting with two layers of clouds? Cant get them work.

Edit: Alright, it seems to be random, wheather the clouds are in one or two layers. Maybe there are some settings, which have a higher chance but its still pretty random.

I happened to see it only once those two cloud layers.

Would like to know if they show up at random or that certain settings like Cloudy, Average or Heavy, cloud height etc. triggers it.

I tried out many settings on a few maps but to no avail.

I guess every pilot in WWII was an ace and no one died. Different levels of AI get different results. We always work to make the AI better, but sometimes your flight doesn't do a good job. Just as it was in real life.

Jason

Actually, I was saying to someone last night that I felt the AI in BoX is pretty darn good. It's one thing to make AI that fly and kill with precision making zero or few mistakes. It's quite another to make 'novice' AI that behaves in a way that seems intelligent but not stupid. It's probably harder to make the easy pilot than the ace pilot. The lower levels of AI in BoX have impressed me in that regard. Many of the novice AI I've been fighting seem to just be hesitant or unsure of their actions before they make a choice as opposed to just flying straight and level forever or completely ignoring you. I need more time with the game to make a definitive statement about the AI, but I would say of the three real modern options right now for WWII simulation (CloD or DCS), BoX has the best AI of the bunch for having made AI that appear to be a little more than the sum of their code. I'm sure it's all smoke and mirrors in some ways, but in some measure it has to be.

And, it can always get better, as you say.

Also, I flew a bunch of career missions last night and on one, my squadron claimed a few kills and I got one (1 loss to our side), on another I got 4 claims (all of ours were lost), and on another I got no claims, they got one, and we all got home. A nice mix. Variety of result makes the sim feel more real to me.

Test

Hello, I am having an issue with the game. It is not reading the input from the mouse. It does not allow me to click on anything, nor minimise the game, since it is always on top, even after popping out task manager. Could you know why is this happening please? I tried the Restarter.exe, as well as PC restarts, IL2 restarts etc.

Finally got the game working. Had to install via the launcher instead of Steam. Got reports that server input commands no longer produce lag bursts. Excellent news! Now we just wait to get the kinks out.

I had a second look after the update and I am still not happy with the performance in VR. Mainly on the Kuban map. I am only flying in VR. However I found a very immersive detail: Rain on the windshields on the ground. What a wunderful and immersive experience in VR. We are close to IFR conditions. I think in all aircraft, not only the new ones...

I made two short uncut videos, one with the FW190 and the other with the Ju52. You can judge the effect of speed to the rain drops. If only the fps would be a bit better... Sometimes down to 20 fps...

I overcompensated rudder and stick a bit. But this is not to show off my flying skills, but the rain...Highly immersive under the VR goggle... I am looking forward to more hot or cold patches to solve the issue. Well done dear DEV-team... I have never seen this before... You are on the right track and I am happy now to participate in the Battle of Bodenplatte early access...

FW 190 start in rain

Ju52 short flight in rain

Just finished my first 109G career mission with VR and I am hopelessly hooked! I've played flight sims since LucasArts battle of Britain & nearly everything in between. When the original Il-2 came out 17 years ago I thought this was absolutely the best & then they modded it to be even better. The CloD appeared & I stuck with it...clunky at first but got better 7 better with 3rd party modders & gee it was/is pretty. I was first in line for BoM and it did run better than CloD but by no means perfectly and at the beginning we had only one or two planes  to play with.Frankly the first FMS on some of the planes ( particularly the 190) were just terrible on my rig & game play was not all that exciting either ( winning medals , ordnance & skins in return for borring little populated missions....BUT the folks at 777 kept tweaking & adding and taking it into a whole new territory of VR.,along with new maps & new planes with new FMs...Great stuff!

Yesterday just as the BoK was downloading my Rift went belly up& alli could do was 'monitor flight".  I was disappointed but at least i could get a touch of seeing it in action and flying the new planes too...aren't the P-39 & A-20 grand!?

Today with a reinstalled Rift I began a new career with the new utility- it was a bomber escort mission all in wonderful VR. When we broke through the clouds and drops of condensation appeared all over my windscreen ,I could have cried it was frigging beautifully immersive ..( I had worried it would be too much like RoF rain effects but no- so much better. I won't bore you with details of the mission...I did get a Lagg & a new P-39 though and a new shiny medal to boot. I don't think I'll be going back to CloD for a while - there's simply too much to play with & enjoy thanks to 777...WELL DONE Chaps!

Wonderful update.  It would be really great if some instructions could be given on how to update older scripted campaigns as they are good and I'd hate to loose them as I'm just getting the feel for mission building.  But, the update is fantastic.  My hats off to everyone who obviously did a great deal of work.

My PC stayed up for several missions tonight and I'm very impressed. The new landscapes are good, clouds superb, rain and moisture in VR astonishing, new campaign much more interesting and immersive and much more. This feels like a new sim. Outstanding work dev team, just fabulous! Well done and thank you.

PS.

I hope it doesn't annoy the devs that after several new aircraft, new terrain, 150km horizon and a full campaign generator we're all excited about the rain effects?

Seriously though, the person or team who coded the water effects deserve great praise.

First of all, thank you dev team for an amazing update! You've made an enormous work.

Btw, has anyone noticed that on normal difficulty (with automatic engine controls)  when you move your throttle, it just changes the rpm on La-5 and La-5 FN, but not the throttle?

They do but that do not mean that all is perfect and no critics may be written. it is true that the 150km horizon is a great progress but for all because all do not have the PC to support this great new effects.

Never forget that each new progress leaves some people on the side of the road because they cannot afford the new graphic card that cost 1000 euros.

Never forget that when details are added other lose the ability to see the refined details that are to small for their eyes.

Never that each layer of realism that is added to the simulation subtract a layer of player that are not interested by it.

Never forget that this is a game and there is a fine balance between a game and a simulation that only a minority plays at.

Let always IL2 be a franchise that shall be a pleasure to play.

But when some feel rejected by a game it is on a Dangerous slope.

I did follow The IL2 game from the beginning (the original) and never did I have the sense that it is become an elite game that tries to satisfy some and not all.

This iis a great game let it be so for a long time.

Have you considered investing in a sense of humour rather than a new GPU perhaps?

To reply with such a leaden response to my light-hearted post is to say the least ... surprising.

I like the 140 K landscape, it got rid of that circle that distracted you from the enjoying the flight, but i'm really  disappointed in the fact we still have a 10k aircraft pop in bubble , kind of sad really to put that much effort in the land scape and not put any effort in fixing one of the most problematic MP issue:wacko:

Hello, my name is Pablo, I wanted to tell you that when updating to the latest version, the game no longer starts. Before that it worked correctly, the pc that I have is an amd fx vishera 8350, 16 ram and a solid disk and a badge video rx 580 of 8 gb. As I told you before, it worked now, it does not stay in a small black window and then throws an error and closes. if anyone can help thanks

Zut Alors!

(I'm suuuper-enthused about the update. For me the game-changer is how easy it is to launch a coop mission from within the game. It really feels like IL2! I predict an explosion (OK, a slow torturous increase) in furrowed brows as more and more people start to slap together coop missions for their mates! Kool times ahead, gents!)

It's very nice to hear this.

Can anyone please confirm?

-- tracks saved prior to 3.001 cannot be loaded and replayed;

-- in career mode, time compression doesn't speed up anything (it still works in quick missions with the same difficulty settings).

There is some error in GUI display vs FPS. When I start the game and run the first mission i have 90fps. As soon as i touch the GUI button it drops to 65fps, and can not be restored to 90fps anymore. After game restart the situation repeats.

Influence of GUI display on fps has a long history in IL2...

I just had a 2 hours co-op session  with my brother. He wasn't allowed to fly any Soviet aircraft, neither the Fw190-A3. Anyone know why? We picked Bf109. However, the game was absolutely solid. Great stuff.

i am on 3.001 from this morning . Everything is smoother and nicer as far as graphics are concerned ( fluid-sharp-solid FPS-no tearing, JOY only. I am on ULTRA settings)

My install is on my HDD, but now I'd like to put it on my SSD.

Can anybody tell me what's the procedure?

Is it possible ?

Or, shall I have to download the game again and install it on the SSD ?

Thanks for Your help.

This is a guess as you have not written a lot. But a Co-op requires all players on same team (ie co-operating) so if you were flying 109 he has to fly German as well.  Dogfight server setup enables splitting sides. As for the 190-A3, I believe that is a collector plane available seperately or with the premium version of BoStalingrad. So if he does not own it presumably cannot fly it in a co-op.

Just to clarify...what is your difficulty setting and activity density setting? You know the AI no longer treats you like a homing beacon? You will fly missions where AI bandits will not see your formation and your Lead will not see the bandits...but you see them clear as day. Sometimes your Flight Lead will peel off (get stripped away) from your escort mission to attack bandits out on their ground attack mission. Sometimes AI will jump you as you enter the landing circuit...they'll strafe you...they'll zip right past you in a high speed overshoot. This career system is not perfect, but it's infinitely better than the old way. So you wasted a half hour flying in circles. Did you work on your tactical formation skills?

Go back to the old campaign system? Not on your life.

No, I selected the Yak-1b as lead, but he was locked out from selecting any Soviet aircraft. The aircraft were padlocked. He could only select from Axis. We gave up and decided to fly Bf109s instead. I don't know if that's a bug. He has both Stalingrad and Moscow components.

With every  updated it gets harder to come up with adequate words to say 'thanks,' and it's harder than ever this time!

After some time on all the new planes, on several of the maps (old, new and redone), and a few career missions, I'm just floored with how much has gone into this new version.  Sure, we have some glitches to work out here & there as always with an update, but considering the sheer scale of this one it's amazing how few (and minor) they are, from what I've seen so far.  You've outdone yourselves again guys.  Thank you so much!

Also spent some time looking through the credits, and of course the first and biggest thanks goes to Jason &  the full dev team (including past members) - you should all be beaming with pride (and relaxing a little!).  I also want to thank the 1C Management team of Nikolay, Maxim and Anastasiya, for supporting this team, and for the part they play in helping the project grow.  Finally, thanks to everyone else listed there, including all of you in the community who have added your personal contributions, with skins, career help, and so much more.  Congrats on having your work included and credited!  Very thankful for all the talented people who are giving the rest of us so much fun!

Is there an instruction on how to get career to work? It's proceeding through missions but never putting me into action. I'm seeing the 'characters' get jobs but not me.  My flying is not that bad... is it?

Adding my voice to the crowd.   Holy crap!  The VR experience is incredibly more real; I guess a combination of improved performance and beautiful graphics.  I'm really loving the Sea Dragons campaign too.

The team has really outdone themselves this time, and believe me, that is saying a lot.  Congratulations and thank you!

We'll add this ability.

Thank you so much, Sneaksie. Really, thank you addressing this. I've said it before and I'll say it again. You guys are the best developers out there in the FS genre. Really, you guys truly are as no one compares with regards to community involvement.

I do have one more question if you'll entertain it regarding the new career mode? Feel free not to answer of course.

Is there any plan to include the option to create your own custom squadron? I was hoping to fly my modern/WWII hybrid version of a Soviet Naval Squadron.

Loving it. :D

Htc Vive and WW2 combat in VR couldn't be better. Have been playing X-Plane VR exclusively for the last month or so, but this patch brought me back and its great fun so far!

Delete the msnbin file, and open your mission. But you must have the . mission file.

If it's not clear, have a look on that post :

I think you would be better off doing a fresh install on the SSD. Don't forget to back up you Input file and any  custom skins you may have on your original install, so that you can just copy them across.
