YoLolo69 Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 (edited) I'm curious to know how they achieved this as it's more an ASW 1.0 algorithm problem. Did they remove or replace the propeller with something else when using VR (E.g. a nearly transparency disk not rotating)? I didn't try yet this new version... Edited June 12, 2019 by YoLolo69

I would like to play without ASW if possible. I find it better when I get 80 fps instead of 40fps and ASW. 80 fps is less nauseating. I am confused about Steam VR and OTT. Would changes to OTT have effect on IL-2 in VR since it seems to run on Steam VR? I changed Steam VR settings from 150 % to 100% and can't really see any decrease in image quality. Steam VR says Reprojection is ON , can I switch it off there or is it only possible in OTT app. Any other tricks to get better performance? Anything in BOS settings that can be reduced to increase FPS without greatly ruining image quality? Only time I get 80fps currently is when flying solo over see on Kuban map. specs: i7 4770K stock speeds, 2133 Mhz RAM and GTX 1080. I have new mobo and i7 9700K and 3600 Mhz DDR4 RAM but I will not build my new PC until weekend. Any suggestions guys? CTRL+Num1 combination is supposed to turn off ASW but it never worked for me for some reason so I use OTT to disable ASW. OTT does have an effect even if SteamVR is running and you cannot turn off ASW in SteamVR (ASW is an Oculus exclusive thing). I have a profile for IL-2 in OTT with audio confirmation enabled so I can hear if the profile is loaded when I launch the game. This is important as sometimes it fails to load. 1

Did they remove or replace the propeller with something else when using VR (E.g. a nearly transparency disk not rotating)? I didn't try yet this new version... It looks (to me) like the centre of the propellor disk is now quite transparent, it's just the edges (beyond the gunsight) that are more solid. This might give an improvement to all the various brands of reprojection tech. Oculus users currently enjoy ASW 2.0 which uses the depth buffer to help understand the scene and smooth things further. I played a bunch last night on the Rift S with an RTX 2080, and I can still tell easily when the framerate drops from 80 to 40. I think I prefer switching ASW off entirely because the switches between 80 and 40 are kind of jarring. Fingers crossed the developers are still going to do optimization passes and stuff as they get closer to release of BoBP. At the end of the day, this is not a "VR first" kind of a game, so we're always going to need to accept some less-than-perfect framerates.
Sgt_Joch Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 (edited) Looks like the prop is now a lo res substitute, not as nice as the 2d version, but it gets the job done. No more distortion and no more target planes doubling up. Between all the tweaking to the game and Steam VR, I find the performance has noticeably improved since I got my Rift last year. In QMBs, fps is mostly around 90, except closer to the ground where it drops to 45. This on an average rig: i5-4670k @ 4.2 ghz/vega 56 with balanced graphic settings. Edited June 12, 2019 by Sgt_Joch
Talisman Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 (edited) Hi Folks, Just 2 quick questions if I may: Firstly, about the Steam VR motion smoothing (global) setting. Should I keep this on? It is on by default, so I hope I have done the right thing by leaving it on. I am using a Pimax 5k plus. Secondly, would you recommend using the beta version of Steam VR or the standard release version? Thanks in advance to anyone kind enough to reply. Happy landing, Talisman Edited June 13, 2019 by 56RAF_Talisman

Happy landing, Talisman You do not need steamVR anymore with Pitool beta. De activate the automatic launch of steamVR in steamVR settings, close steamVR, launch Pitool, launch IL2 => no steamVR process and VR OK. SteamVR layer is emulated by Pitool, image computation are done by pitool. It looks like only steamVR SuperSampling is used to computed target resolution. It's up to you for SmartSmoothing, a bit smoother but some artifacts. I prefer to be at native fps (that are ok for my rig) without SS. Edited June 14, 2019 by lefuneste

SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 There is currently no mod that works. Since the Me-262 patch, we'll have to wait for a mod update.? 1
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted June 15, 2019 Posted June 15, 2019 Good news everyone! Lefuneste has updated the Mod. The first post has been updated and contains uploads of a preset of the entire Mod for Odyssey+ and Pimax5k+, already including the proper convergences. 2
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 There has been noted that the Shaders for the Mirrors are not corrected yet. Lefuneste has stated he knows about it, so there'll be another Hotfix coming soon. Please be advised that mirrors in this mod never have and will not ever work while zoomed in, due to how the Shaders operate.
SCG_Redcloud111 Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 Thanks for the optimization files. I am using them!
SCG_Redcloud111 Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 (edited) Hey, Fenris. I saw your post in the 3Dmigoto forum that you adjusted world scale. Can you post for me just the code and in which file it goes so that I can adjust cockpit size? I used your optimization files, but then did some very minor tweaks on each zoom level. So, I'd rather not uninstall and reinstall everything. Also, I pretty much have been following your thread and tweaking my system according to your specs across the board, such as your Il2 config .ini and even my overclock settings. All works great at 4.9ghz, an overclocked 1080ti, no AVX, with overclocked RAM, etc. I do prefer to have motion reprojection on auto though. It seems to make things smoother for me when the framerates drop. Thanks! Edited June 17, 2019 by redcloud111-vvs 1

SCG_Redcloud111 Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 (edited) It works perfectly now. I mostly want it when flying the JU52. That cockpit looks huge in VR, and is awesome. Blitzen Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 I installed the pupil distance utility some time ago and indeed the red/green pattern does appear when I reboot my PC.While wearing my Pimax headset I try adjusting the pattern using the Pimax dial.My problem ? The pattern shows up more or less clear and turning the dial one way or another doesn’t seem to make much if any difference. This is coupled with trying to adjust headstraps and keeping foam cushion in place from one use to another ( my replacement headstrap should arrive early this week and this may solve the problems I’ve had...)So what am I doing incorrectly?
[CPC]Giledhil Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 (edited) Thanks for the files @SCG_Fenris_Wolf, although it doesn't really work on my setup (on O+). Zoom still need a little tweaking, and Alt+Left keys to change worldscale seems to do nothing. I used the files in the first post; any idea why? Maybe zoom values doesn't apply because Worldscale tweaking doesn't work? Edited June 17, 2019 by [CPC]Giledhil
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 (edited) You need to initialize the user file with F12 once, after installing the mod. Thanks for pointing it out, I will add that. Please also make sure to have removed all old files of older versions of it before you copy&paste in the latest one. The IPD modifier should be working. During the various versions, the keyboard shortcut had been flipped around, which I didn't notice had happened. It should be ALT-DELETE. Edited June 17, 2019 by SCG_Fenris_Wolf 1
[CPC]Giledhil Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 (edited) By any chance, does someone have a comprehensive list of what changes the graphic presets ("low"/"balanced"/"high"...) really apply to the game? Edited June 21, 2019 by [CPC]Giledhil

Far from comprehensive, but the most important is that it changes the size of the bubble around you how far the scene looks better. High setting means bigger bubble, low setting smaller bubble. PS: It's good that this is not work because if someone asked me a comprehensive list there and I would start to talk about big bubbles and small bubbles, probably I would soon be free to play a lot of IL-2. 1

AKA_Big10 Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 So i downloaded the one for the O+, 13-1 VRBOS Odyssey, but only have 2 toggles for the gun sight. On and off, I press Alt K and it will not cycle. Am I missing something here. Thanks.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 From original post: // - turn crosshair off/on using Alt-K As historical, there's no other option but this. Also, the crosshair is being shown in both eyes, as historically as well. The only stray from history is that you got binoculars now. I'd rather take away zoom from both VR and 2D-monitor players though, with only shakey binoculars at 2x being available to anyone.
AKA_Big10 Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 Where would I go so i can put it to the right eye only. I prefer that setting. I would rather have a VR only server if we are gonna give opinion on what we want. After playing both, Track IR give a much greater advantage to looking behind you than VR.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 in \bin\game\user_settings folder the user_keymapping.ini file ?
Herne Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 I think I messed up, had the mod then got a later version. In vr everything still looks pretty good. On the client seeing lots of shader error messages. Is there a way to fix this without uninstall and re-install everything ?

You had been warned (in my post and in lefuneste's) ? Now it'll be more difficult, you'll need to walk through your directory and delete the old files manually. Look at the old mod zipfile you had before, and the new one. Delete both accordingly in your game dir. Then reinstall the new version Edited June 25, 2019 by SCG_Fenris_Wolf

-47-Uncle_Bob Posted June 26, 2019 Posted June 26, 2019 What a fine piece of work to share with others. I see you talk about, I guess the newest hardware and vr headsets. If I only have a gtx 1060 and occulus cv1, can i then use any of these settings or this mod?

With a 1060 and a CV1 you are probably in 45 FPS ASW mode most of the time (which is fine, I find it totally playable like that). Migoto mod lets you zoom in to ID distant enemies, and some of the graphical settings here help with FPS. You should also consider dumping SteamVR in favor of OpenComposite -- it goes direct to the Oculus APIs and gives you a little bit extra performance. 1

Yes regarding the settings, as said above, CPU is very important. Alonzo's recommendation will help too Regarding mod: Currently, I'm afraid no - regarding the mod zoom. This zoom convergence is for Rift S. But it is possible, I must put in the Rift's convergences. I may get time to set up a version for the Rift CV1 during the weekend. PikAs62 Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 (edited) Fenris, as lefuneste released the 13.1.1 version of his mod that fixes Me262 sight. C6_lefuneste Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 You can keep all user files for this version. Only shader files and d3dx.ini should not be mixed. 1
PikAs62 Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 Ah, very good. So I only have to exchange the files in ..\user_settings and the d3dx_user.ini. Thanks a lot for the info!

I would like to have the switches, canopy etc. clickable with my mouse> How do I do it?
