Finding the cause of a random crash issue (Special Thread #1)

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi

Never had a crash in BoS before, but there's always a first time...

  • When you encountered the crash: Tonight, Jan 10, 2022
  • In what game mode (MP/QMB/campaign/scenario): Stalingrad Summer
  • In what mission: Quick Mission, with Stuka... a random bomb bridge mission
  • What did you do before the crash: External view flyby.... tried to change some key mapping too, had "null" and couldnt change any key
  • What happened in the mission before the crash: I took off and was waiting for the other 3 A.I. aircraft to form
  • Additional info you think is relevant to the crash: I updated the game to last version 4.702 some days ago, and had a fail when tried to launch. I can't remember if I ran a repair or if Steam started again to donwload the update. Another info, I updated my NVidia driver 3 days ago in order to use NIS (NVidia Image Scaling) but in BoS I don't run it... only in DCS. No problems in DCS. Another info, in BoS I selected full screen in order to use my monitor's GSync.

Tks in advance!!

There will be a hotfix fixing this problem in the near future, thank you.

I had an update dled just a few minutes ago but I still cant run the game! The same problem occurs.

My first full crash after the update today.  No logs to provide as the game froze mid flight and had to be shut down with the task manager. It was frozen mid flight with sound running, but picture frozen.

I'm getting a CTD when I try to launch my first mission in Career Mode.  Single missions don't appear to have this problem and I've been able to play those.  First time I'm playing, so I don't have an established history to compare/contrast.

When encountered? - every time I start my first mission in Career Mode, the game initiates the loading screen and will crash sometime before the load is completed

Game Mode?  Career Mode; BoS, multiple careers tried, different units, airframes, etc.

Mission?  First of what is generated

Did right before mission?  Completed pilot creation, start the first mission

What happened in the mission before crash?  Nothing, never started

Add'l info that's relevant?  Dump file is >7mb (because of career mode?) so here's the Dropbox:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/9l3vunc489ekfdc/Il-2.exe.4804.zip?dl=0

Thank you!

@SloopJohnB, we really need to get two files from you:
il2_folder\data\missions\_gen.mission
il2_folder\data\_mgen.log

The problem of not starting at all is back! It shows in taskmanager/processes for 2 - 3 seconds then gone into the binary universe! Do you want more dumps?

Posted

@-DED-Rapidus do you need another dumfile? I just got a new one today of the nonstarting issue. The zipfile is too big to be posted here, how can I conveye it to you?

@FlyingH, yes, you can send it to me via a file sharing service or Google drive. Please make a dxdiag report.

Had another crash/freeze today.  Same as the last, audio continued, I could use the menu (but not select anything), and had to hard stop the .exe to get out of the program.  Mission file attached.

@FlyingH, try to completely delete all files and folders in the IL2\updates folder and start launcher.exe.

I launched your mission several times, went through to the end, but there was no freeze. What exactly were you doing before the game stopped?

Lining up on the non-existent target.  I believe the crash occurred as the enemy flights spawned in.  The next times I played the mission, no crash occurred.

I´m sorry to report the problem remains! I made  the new dumpfile avaliable on Google drive. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QfqAM6Q3Ia_ZPxq0eHkjfpSGS1VIqxfI/view?usp=sharing

Can my problem be related to some firawall setting? What to do in sucha case? I´m stunned!

There is still a trump card up your sleeve, reinstall DirectX 11, and have you tried to do what I asked you to do earlier?

It looks like you need to completely reinstall the standard version of il2.

Ok I will do that again, although I´ve already done it twice! But I guess the binary universe is so vast that one will ever know when it works or fails!

EDIT I dled the game again after deleting the whole game folder. Reinstalled and same thing happens! Strange thing is the steam dl has the same problem if I make a shortcut from the IL2.exe in the bin/game filder to the start menu (or use the exe in the folder but if I go to the steam app in the taskmanager and click on the Battle of Stalingrad line the game works! I´m totally confused to why the difference, it should be generating the same result whereeve I start the game from, I think.

Solved partly: after some investigation, looking up the windows event viewer revealed that "C:\WINDOWS\system32\SaiQFFB5.dll" caused the crash. Of course, the 64bit driver of my Saitek Cyborg Evo Force. I found a forum post here about that, but the mentioned solution there didnt fix the problem, nor did Windows let me install the 32bit drivers. Turning off force feedback solved the crashes for now. But it lets me down with no force feedback :(

Original Post:

Cannot get any mission to start. Just bought, installed it brand new from Steam and It does load, sometimes up to the mission briefing but then it crashes quite quickly when loading the actual mission. Thats... really sad. :(

@deep2k4, that is, without ffb, there are no problems with launching missions?

@Aces_High_Server, you have a problem with the library ucrtbase.dll, it's not about the dserver or the steditor.

Thanks. I'm running the DServer on Windows Server 2019, is IL-2 compatible with that platform?

Rise of Flight DServer just works fine on it.

FAILED load: GRAPHICS\ICONS\ROUNDARROW.DDS (graphics\textures\common\ROUNDARROW.DDS)

This message appears when attempt to play IL-2. It causes my game to freeze before it is completely open. Task Master is the only way to shut down the game.

I looked in the Graphics>Icon folder. I didn't know what to do, so I thought if I hid ROUNDARROW.DDS, it might make the problem go away. It didn't, the Icon folder is empty and I have can't find the file. The problem still exists

I'm just starting to play the game after the last upgrade. It is almost unplayable. Heavy stutters in the frames, pilot views of the seats and unable to reset view forward. My SE 5 view is from outside of the cockpit and it won't change no matter what I do. As more planes enter the view the game begins to freeze up. In almost every game mode. I play by myself. It was just fine about 2 months ago.
