6./ZG26_Emil Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 I might give these missions a whirl, do these missions require us to play in offline mode? Cheers Emil
Dakpilot Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 The very earliest mission needed that (offline) but it was a long time ago, now they play like any other mission, People have been crying for more content, but seem reluctant to try the outstanding work done by some great mission makers I highly recommend giving these a try and spread the word, a lot of people bemoan the lack of content for BoS but without support the hard work will go unnoticed Great 3rd party content was one of the things that made original IL-2 popular, we have it here don't let it go to waste Cheers Dakpilot 3

I rarely fly offline but I shall try them out
Bando Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 I tried them. They are great missions and the fun is immense. Dakpilot is right, we all should give'm a try.

You are bringing some soul to this game....Thanks Emil for posting this....to show some of the detail that goes into these missions...Wow...I mean that is just a beautiful look at what this game does so well.... Thanks the only problem is when recording from a track you don't hear the cool voice acting or see the subtitles which really add to the immersion. I was very impressed and any people who play offline who haven't tried these missions are really mission out of a great experience. 1

6./ZG26_Emil Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Mission 2 Didn't go as well as planned as I couldn't find the enemy at first and kept losing them in the clouds. Hyperlinks are enabled now so you can skip to the important points. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qcZi-VIOc4
Veteran66 Posted June 26, 2015 Author Posted June 26, 2015 I can not show your Video here. The Mission work fine for me, use your Ai Wingmans and radio command to find your targets in the combat area.
Albino Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 (edited) Thanks for your excellent missions Veteran! I completed my first today The feeling of immersion is very high! I was compelled to strafe some artillery after fighting off the Yaks to help with the defence of Luki. Does anyone else get poor performance in those missions? When flying 8 on 8 things slowdown to around 30 fps over the town. It's quite jarring. I'm running a Haswell i5 and GTX 970 on high settings with 2x AA (@ 1920 x 1200) which should be more than enough horsepower. In smaller fights I usually get 60 - 70 fps. Your missions must really push the game to the limit Veteran. Regards Albino Edited July 2, 2015 by Albino

I think there is a lot of action on the ground as well as plenty of aircraft which is pushing our CPUs to their limits. I have an i5 @ 4.2 GHz

Regards Albino I had to switch off the overclocking on my i7-3770K due to it becoming unstable and at its stock 3.5ghz the large Chir Front missions are a slow speed slide show. It's like the game is running in slow motion. Time for a new CPU...Skylake next month
Juri_JS Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 The complex calculation of AI plane behaviour is the big performance killer in BoS. As long as BoS is 32bit, I wouldn't expect too much performance increase from a new CPU.I wonder if a simplified AI setting that can be used by mission builders for large formations of bombers or transport planes could improve the situation.

I wonder if a simplified AI setting that can be used by mission builders for large formations of bombers or transport planes could improve the situation. I don't think the number of aircraft in these missions is particularly high though, if there are a lot of ground activities going on in a small space plus the aircraft and flak etc
Juri_JS Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I did some performance tests in my missions and the number of AI aircraft always caused the largest performance drop. On my PC 20 AI aircraft in a mission is the limit, everything above is causing problems. On the other hand the impact of ground activity was suprisingly low, even in large tank battles.

I can confirm that, especially when you have AIs taxiing, then you can't have more than a handful. It gets better when they are airborne. It's a pity DServer uses only one core. If they were able to spread the AI calculations over all the cores, multiplayer coop could have 4 times more planes in the air. Imagine escorting and attacking bomber flights of 20 planes! Hopefully that will be possible some day.
6./ZG26_Emil Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Insane mission tonight regardless of the issues Action starts at 6 mins but gets really fun after a bit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj5PaVMpHus

Intel is in the habit of only increasing single threaded performance around 10% a generation in favour of power, efficiency and graphics gains. Never the less, please keep up the excellent work mission builders! Regards Albino
Veteran66 Posted July 3, 2015 Author Posted July 3, 2015 Thx JG5_Emil to share the Videos Hi Albino, nice you like the Missions, yes they need a good PC system, the Airplane AI and the ground combat take the limit of your PC. I put many "Fake" explosions on the ground this need much lower fps as the shooting ground objects. Only infantry must make his job. A important part of VeteranMissions is the ground combat, they mus be simulated to get a historic war feeling (i know bad for your fps). (sorry for my bad english i hope you understand me) I build the Missions for my (older) systems: CPU 3.07GHz 12 Giga Ram Win7 64 Bit GeForce GTX 680 Mainboard ASUS P6T Soundkarte Onboard note the 12 Giga Ram, i always notice that flight simulations need a lot of RAM
SharpeXB Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Without turning this into a hardware discussion, it unlikely that Skylake is going to help! Intel is in the habit of only increasing single threaded performance around 10% a generation in favour of power, efficiency and graphics gains. Sure but the 3770 is a few generations back already. Now with the overclocking it performed right up with the top chips today but at stock speed it suffers. It makes more sense to just get a new one rather than try to fix the old one.
Albino Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Yes I understand you Veteran! It's nice to know what kind of system you are targeting. Sharpe I wish I could upgrade my processor so frequently! Once you make the upgrade let us know what kind of performance you are getting Regards Albino
1CGS LukeFF Posted July 4, 2015 1CGS Posted July 4, 2015 Veteran, on Chir Front mission 1 (parking), what do I need to do to get the AI to take off? They taxi to the runway, but then they just sit there after I take off. They tell the control tower they are ready to take off, but then nothing else happens.

IIRC you need to wait the ai to radio you telling that "they are ready for take off", interesting though, sometimes they do it quickly, sometimes they take a while and on rare ocasions they bug out for some reason and never seems to get ready. I guess thats why we have the option to start the mission already on the runaway, ready for take off. -edit- I remember that giving them more space on runaway helps with the issue. Thanks, I'll give that a try. I wanted to get right into the mission, so on all my subsequent attempts I just started from the runway. Oh and BTW, great job on these missions, Veteran. I like the way you mix up the armament on the Il-2s, so that one never knows if the plane they are about to attack has a rear gunner or not.
Veteran66 Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 the AI ist the problem with the parking missions, sometime they start they engines and stop it, or they do not start the engine, why i do not know. So i make the same Missions without parking In normal as istruba say, wait for the roll on order from the Airfield Command. Nice you like the Missions 1

SCG_Neun Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Was that fix suppose to correct the blue snow? If so...it didn't work for me...
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 (edited) Was that fix suppose to correct the blue snow? If so...it didn't work for me... worked for me, first; down load the first one, then install it to the correct place, make sure you did that some time people make fat finger mistakes, then down load the second one that says hot fix, install that one last. the only fix is for the veterans missions not any thing else or anyone else's missions, as far as saved replays your gone lose those.
