1) they work on the same install, by purchasing Moskow you will unlock that content (planes + map + career).

2) if you start in the winter yes. You can choose a different time to start career to see the other seasons.

3) no that's IL2 cliffs of Dover, not great battles.

4) I'd guess end of 2021 for all the features but planes will start trickling in much sooner, with the P47 razorback coming in the next two patches.

5) not sure if things are catalogued but you won't break anything, it just won't let you play them if you don't own the map/plane.

1. My first purchase has been Bodenplatte, because I was attracted to that location and the aircraft that were in use during that time period. So, my first question is, if I purchase, say, Moscow, will the 2 games merge, and will the aircraft from both sims be able to be used in each sim respectively?

Yes, once purchased you can fly purchased planes on both maps.

2. Bodenplatte missions seem to always take place in the snow. Is this correct?

No. Bodenplatte comes with summer, autumn and winter maps. When you set up a quick build mission, you may choose which seasonal map to fly on in the upper right hand corner. If you are flying in a career, the career will choose the correct season.

3. Heard a vicious rumor before I purchased this sim that there *might* be a North Africa campaign and setting in future?

A subsidiary of the company is working on a NA campaign using a different game engine, the same used for IL-2: Cliffs of Dover.

4. Any (approximate) ETA's on Normandy? I've been wishing for something like this for years. Thanks so much to the devs, and the communi

My guess would be twelve months, but much of the content will be released prior to that if you buy early.

5. With some of the user made missions, campaigns, and modified terrains, are they catalogued at the moment? For example; Things just suitable for Bodenplatte? Because I do not want to damage this sim in any way.

Not sure here.

Hello everybody. I'm relatively a rookie talking about flight simulation. I mainly play Rise of Flight as now, and I played around a version of Il2 1946 for a while...I'd really want to buy Il2 BoS, the problem is my laptop: with my TERRIBLE Geforce 840m and my Core i7 (although the weaker laptop one) the only simulators I can really afford to run are 1946 and RoF. I'd like to make myself a decent gaming pc even if I have a really tight budget...That time will eventually come though. Is there any chance I'd be able to gather a little enjoyment from buying and playing the game now, or is it better to wait to have a machine that can run it decently? Cheers!

I think it is worth buying. I play with an older cpu and moderately older gpu and get good framerates. I do not fly online though, so you may be into more requirements at that level.

Another option is IL-2 Cliffs of Dover. It is a separate game engine than BoX and is, I think, less demanding right now. Needless to say, I prefer BoX, but many do like CoD for the ability to have more planes in the air at one time without stressing the computer out too much.

In any case, I'd recommend waiting for a sale. Then, if your machine won't handle it, you have only spent $13-20 on whichever BoX game you want to try first. They all us the same engine, so if you can fly any one of them, you can fly them all. Should be a sale soon I think.

Yes, the license is not tied to a specific PC. It's too bad you just missed a sale though. But there will be more.

IRRE_Belmont

It should run on medium to low settings. Like unlikely_spider said above, wait for a sale and try it ! If you buy it on steam you may be able to refund it if it doesn't work as intended on your machine.

Also, buy BOS first as it has the oldest and least-demanding assets. If it runs well you could try BOM or BOBP, but stay clear of BOK for now as its terrain is pretty heavy on your GPU.

One suggestion: Wait for a sale and pick up IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad (it's probably the best performing of the bunch) for about $20 USD. If it doesn't work on your current laptop you're only out the price of a dinner out and you can wait until you do get a chance to build something better and then take full advantage of it.

It should actually run a little better than RoF I think (dx11 vs 9) and a 840m is not too bad with its 4 GB of VRAM.

I started with BoS about a year ago on my 10 year old i7 920 with an AMD R7 360 2GB OC card. Had to over clock both a little, but it ran OK with slightly reduced graphic settings.

Generally a laptop might not be an ideal PC for top notch GPU/CPU gaming.

As for USB it usually has one USB controller chip mostly involved with too many hardware connections running over the same USB buss.

Asking what to buy is a can of worms opener, and even with a high end system tuned to the hilt you'll experience some (GPU?) flaws.

If you want to build a system yourself; i was watching all sort of upgrade kits on various sites, and found a quite expensive but fairly priced one.

Important is a seller which helps out with eventual problems. Like a water cooler exchange cause the hoses were too short and stupid things like that

Maybe get some expert gaming PC builder to help you out, there are many factors to consider when building a gaming PC.

Complicated missions in BoX can be real power-hungry.

Thanks everybody for the tips! I'm definetely going to buy it to the next sail, and an offtopic question...Is 1946's multiplayer completely dead? I'm going to get it too soon since it's cheapy, and sorry to the mods for the pirating thing. I'm going to get it asap since I like it and mainly wanted to figure out if I might like it. Cheers and see everybody over Stalingrad :salute:

1000x Yes, definitely buy this sim!  This dev team is doing amazing work. IMHO,  IL-2 in its current iteration is the best WWII Air Combat sim out there by a mile plus it is consistently and competently updated at a reasonable pace, not a single other air combat sim platform out there can honestly say that, full stop.

There should be another sale around the corner as they come pretty frequently ?

Hello every1,

If i want to play/ buy Battle of Bodenplatte do i need to buy first Battles of stallingrad? Im al confused with the steam store that it says this.

[CPT]milopugdog

Howdy!

Due to limitations with how Valve runs their store, you will need to buy Stalingrad first if you want to use the Steam client. However, if you are buying Bodenplatte directly through the IL-2 website, it can be stand alone.

If you buy Stalingrad through Steam, you also have the option to buy content on the IL-2 website and sync your accounts. After which, they will all appear under the same account no matter where they are purchased from.

spitfirejoe

YES...……..as said here before already. Do NOT buy any IL-2 content on Steam, buy it directly from their own shop on their own Website.

Then you are flexible with any Content you want to buy and support the Dev Team 100%.

Buy any Module which you like. The Battle of Kuban Map is really very beautiful. Battle of Bodenplatte has a great huge map aswell and really nice airplanes.

Thank you guys for helping me out. I think i buy from il2 store right away for the extra support.

From IL2sturmovic.com? Yes you do, it's located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\bin\game\Launcher.exe" assuming you loaded it in the default folder on C:\ of course.

Hi all, Im looking to make a purchase of one of the BoX series, but have a few questions before making the purchase as there is no option for a 'demo'

I have read the minimum system requirements... but wasnt sure if something has been lost in translation, they seem a little high? My system specs arent great - see below- but were enough to play RoF fine, so was hoping I may be able to play the BoX series on low to medium settings

i7 3630 2.4GHz

12GB RAM

Win8 64bit

AMD Radeon HD 7670M 1GB

From reading the posts in this thread, it seems that BoS and BoM are the least hungry on system resources? This may make my post pointless as I dont have too much interest in the Russian campaigns and was hoping to get BoBp, maybe BoK

Last question, I dont intend to play MP as my internet connection is not reliable enough, I know a connection is required to play SP, Im hoping it will be similar to RoF where it was enough to play SP campaigns/careers

Is this just a pipe dream? I was really hoping the old laptop might have a bit left in her yet as I cant afford to upgrade for a while

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I just wanted to introduce myself as I embark on learning to fly again. I've been out of the flight sim game for a long time, since the early 2000s (with the exception of a cup of coffee with FSX and X-plane, and rudder pedals I definitely didn't get my money's worth out of).

I had no idea that IL-2 was not the same game from the early 2000s until about a week ago! The circumstances that lead me here were kind of strange - I was unpacking an old box of items I had in my closet, getting rid of some junk, and found an old squadron hat. I used to fly with a squad called "Global Fighters Allience" (GFA), established 1998, flying games like Jane's USNF and Jane's Fighters Anthology. Some of the group went on to fly Falcon 4.0, later DCS, to get more into the simulation aspect - the vast majority preferred flying jets over props.

The hat that I found was made by a former member of our squad that had unfortunately died of cancer (only a year or so after he had these hats made and sent to members of the squad who wanted them). He was a retired gentleman, callsign "Zinger", and had became a good friend to me. When my squad slowed down our virtual flying, we continued to play Jane's WW2 Fighters for a time. He never told anyone he was dying - we found out when his daughter posted on our forum after the event had happened, and explained how much he loved flying with us.

With the bittersweet memories of those times I decided to see what was out there and found your community!

I just wanted to share my story and mention that this may just be the flight simulation I've always wanted to play. I've just started my flight school with the U-2VS this morning with a 15 minute VFR flight around an airfield on the eastern front. If anyone wants to fly, let me know, as I don't know anyone here.

Sincerely,

Groove_GFA

Just to be sure:Does the ingame video recording work or is there something special to know about? Because I never managed to get it running in my copy of the game.

Left Control + R to start or stop recording. I've never had a problem. You might check your key bindings; maybe something got corrupted there.

Hi, I've bought BoS and BoB on steam. I would like to buy BoM and BoK premium editions directly from developer. Will modules bought from here be granted to my Steam Library?

My account is linked to steam.

Hey cartamanoza, I was gifted Bok recently, but due to my woeful system it is unfortunately un playable for me, I think I can pass it on 1 more time... Happy birthday ?

[EDIT] can't find a way to gift license on mobile app... Will do when I have a chance to log on at home

Hi

If you buy/get any module directly from developers, it won't show on your steam library.

But if accounts are liked you Will be able to play all the content when you start the game from steam.

Also steam Will keep all of the modules up to date.

This is correct, you will have to play from Steam or a shortcut to Steam to see all your modules. If you play from  "X:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\bin\game\Launcher.exe" all you will see is the modules you purchased directly. You will also only see the badges here under your name of the ones you buy from IL2Sturmovik.com.. The install will ask you to link to your Steam account, obviously do that..

My question is. I have BOS and Great battles installed . But both are separate,  is there a way to have them as a single install as I have to close one game down to fly Kuban campaign/ Flying Circus/ BOS and vice versa

All products in the Great Battles series are integrated into a single installer, including Kuban, Flying Circus, and Stalingrad.

You should be able to access all the items you've purchased without switching games unless you somehow purchased them using different accounts.

If you've purchased some of the modules through Steam you may need to link the accounts.

I'm not completly sure about that

If you buy BoS and BoBp on steam

And BoM and BoK on webpage

You Will be able to play ALL  modules starting the game from steam(if you liked the accounts), it's how I play.

But I THINK you can't play all modules if you start from the il2 launcher (not steam)

You will only see BoM,BoK

As I understand, if you link accounts, steam can see your il2sturmovik.com purchases

But  il2sturmovik.com can't see your steam purchases

Also having 2 separate instals has no point, both have all the content, just not the access to it.

Either play from steam with Linked  accounts. Or Rebuy everything on webpage (sale going on right now).

What do you mean?

You have BoS form steam and other module from il2sturmovic.com?

Because BoS IS Great Battles... BoS is the first module.

BoM is the second module

BoK is the third, at this point, all 3 where considered part of the Great Battles series to distinguish them from il2 Clifs of dover and il2 1946 wich are separste games on diferent engines.

Then it came Flying Circus,Tank Crew and BoBp the 4th, 5th and 6th modules.

So BoS, BoM, BoK, BoBo, FC and TC ARE the Great Battles

Il2 CloD and il2 1946 (the original) are not

A few questions. I've generally spent most of this week configuring for VR, linking my steam account, and learning the flight basics, and mapping buttons to my god awful X52.

I just completed the Yak7b scripted tutorial missions which were fantastic.

Since I've only really flown the Yak7b, my questions below are generalist or for similar aircraft to the Yak7b. All four questions sets are in regards to mapping each on an axis 0 to 100.

  1. Elevator Trim
    1. How do you know what your trim is set to when you have the HUD turned off? I see no relevant gauge in the cockpit. I have the thumb hat on my joystick set for the trim (hat down to pitch up, hat up to pitch down) and I can vaguely guess when it's high in the negative or positive range through guesswork watching how the aircraft responds. Is that the norm?
    2. When I load into a mission, my trim is never at 0, I have to adjust trim to 0, is that normal?
  2. Fuel Mixture
    1. How do you know what your fuel mixture is set to when you have the HUD turned off? I see no relevant gauge in the cockpit.
    2. When the HUD is on and it says "Adjust fuel mixture", in what direction is it advising me to go?
    3. Is there any rule-of-thumb guidance for fuel mixture usage aside from "lower fuel mix at higher alt" and "higher fuel mix for power when fighting"?
    4. Does one adjust fuel mixture infrequently; say for example only when switching between modes of flight like takeoff, landing, high alt straight and level, low alt straight and level, and combat. OR, does one adjust fuel mixture frequently within in a single mode of flight such as dog-fighting?
  3. Prop Pitch
    1. How do you know what your prop pitch is set to when you have the HUD turned off? I see no relevant gauge in the cockpit.
    2. Is there any rule-of-thumb guidance for prop-pitch? Is higher better for power and fighting? Lower for fast diving and landing?
    3. Same as above for fuel mixture; does one adjust infrequently depending on flight mode, or frequently within a single flight mode like dog-fighting?
  4. Water & Oil cooling
    1. Same question #1 as the previous ones.
    2. How do you know when you increase in one vs the other? Is it ever the inverse or if open is open you want the other open?

There is no trim indicator, so you just have to adjust it by feel.

Correct, the default trim setting for every plane is its cruise speed trim, so more often than not it will not be set to neutral at mission start.

1. Fuel mixture is adjusted by feel. In general, you want to reduce it until you can't see black smoke blowing out from the engine.

2. Usually that means you need to reduce the fuel mixture level when it says that.

3. A rich fuel mixture will have a slight cooling effect on engine temperature, while leaner mixtures will slightly increase temperatures.

4. Typically, yes, in my experience.

1. No cockpit indicator for prop pitch.

2. You can typically leave it in the full-forward position for all modes of flight.

3. See #2

  1. Same question #1 as the previous ones.
  2. How do you know when you increase in one vs the other? Is it ever the inverse or if open is open you want the other open?

1. No indicators for the radiator shutters.

2. The temperature levels will decrease when radiators open  - typically the water radiators will need to be farther open than the oil radiators in the Yaks. You'll want to adjust them independently as necessary.

Not exactly what you asked for, but I would advise you and any other new player to take a look at the excelent library of this channel.

You have some basic concepts of flying and fighting, and also some Quick aircraft familiarization videos, where you can see the answer to some of your questions for prety much all the planes on this game.
