Team Fusion ATAG_Snapper Posted November 7, 2022 Team Fusion Posted November 7, 2022 Hi everyone, Here is a quick video of our work-in-progress Virtual Reality Visual Update generously recorded by one of our beta team. It is shot in 2D in 2K (1440p) resolution. Note the high number of aircraft (~100 plus) and the use of True Sky's "Light Clouds". Average frame rate for this 14 minute clip came out to be a very smooth 104 fps. Please note that for both icons (including multiplayer servers that enable icons) and Information Windows, keyboard presses and/or joystick buttons can be assigned to toggle them on/off during gameplay. 17 4 2
Veteran66 Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 yes this is a Video the clouds look nice (not nice very good)?
No.54_Reddog Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 What specs is the machine running this for those interested in that sort of stuff? Looks good. Can AI see through clouds do we know yet?

RTX 3080, i9 10850 @5.0 GHz. 64 RAM (3600 MHz) Video settings are on full except for building render distance (near, CloD is very near per default), render detail (High and Near iirc) and far static shadows (off). Can‘t answer about clouds and AI with certainty. I haven't had any obvious situation (like enemy a/c flying on either side of clouds or something) that I could notice it for sure. Better have someone from TFS answer that correctly.

Very nice video, very interesting indeed and nice to see something playing to CLoDs strengths. In 1440p the old girl is looking very sharp and very beautiful indeed. Also reassuring to know the game can put modern hardware to good use. I thought that was very impressive all round. The weather was pretty good I thought although southern England is rarely covered by ground level clouds. Would be very nice to see something shot around sunrise or sunset to see how colour palette plays with the weather. Well done J-HAT and well done TFS?. Let’s not be shy about seeing more of this stuff and generating positive discussions. 1

Your PC specs are in the higher bracket, which is a shame because it seems to maintain FPS drops above 60fps most of the time, with only light clouds, people in 1440p 2d will need an RTX 3080 as a minimum. I don't hold out much hope of that for my ultrawide 2k and 3070ti. as a side note, what is that awful looking mess of haze below cloud? It looks bloody awful. Edited November 7, 2022 by 334th_Padre*

I thought the Beta was VR My understanding is that the current beta version is for the visual update as a whole: you need a headset if you want to apply as a tester because of the VR part of the beta but there are other parts in the beta that are not directly related to VR (4k cockpits, new 3D elements in Spitfires' and 109s' cockpits, 4k textures in maps and in external views of aircraft, SpeedTree midware upgraded to latest version, TrueSKY midware first time implemented in the game with new clouds and new weather engine, wheather engine interface intended to the user, increase of view distance in order to prevent excessive popping of objects on sight... and maybe a few other features...).

5th_Barone Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 I have a couple of questions don't know if any devs can reply. 1 - I see decals on the wings to be still in low res, are they going to be upgraded to 4K like the rest of the aircraft? 2 - Maybe it's the video and not a thing in game, but asometimes contact seems to have flickering edges when against clouds 3- at 5.17 the terrain is hidden by the mist but the smoke is very visible, is that something that needs to be tuned? The mist effect seems very nice, and so is the new revi. It's also nice to see some footage finally. Hope this will become frequent, PR is needed as air for this game. 1

No idea about utilization in that specific footage. I was only seeing what is in the video. I reran the mission (AI pilot) though, which obviously isn’t the same frame by frame but GPU was between 55% and 65% most of the time when in combat among the clouds. Spikes to low 70%. Max I could observe was 76%. CPU at around 15%. Minimum for the GPU was around 45%-50% when no one was around or at the start of the mission, for example. Light clouds is just the preset, which is actually quite dense compared to other presets. Medium clouds (being the other CloD default preset) for example is almost an overcast at the moment. There are lighter conditions with specific cloud formations that are called differently (specific cloud types and combinations like we saw in one of the more recent TrueSky posts). Yeah, it’s the time of day… I had already recorded the video when I realized but thought the combat in the clouds was nice. Setting it to 11:45 instead of 7:45 like it is in the video makes it very clear below the clouds. Maybe Riley has another video in clearer conditions that he could post. Mewt Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 This is better. Some great combat. Interior looks excellent. Sounds and gunplay are great. I always preferred the soundscape and feel of CloD. Clouds look OK. Some sort of odd lower level “mist” effect tho. UI/UX is still the absolute disaster hot mess of CloD.

I just hope the mission building gods don't go nuts with clouds, because the reality of it is that on cloudy days as shown in the video, hardly any flying took place comparatively. It's all in the Battle of Britain diaries, and the difference in numbers flying on days like you showed in the video, compared to clear days is staggeringly different. For those who can script and build missions, you might want to take a look at thosehttps://www.battleofbritain1940.net/0019.html Edited November 7, 2022 by 334th_Padre*

The diaries are pretty good for weather, but the actual mission details are incredibly detailed, which could inspire some amazing missions. I wish I had the time to put into learning scripting and mission building. The mission builder was so much easier to use in IL-2 1946, and for the most part, it worked all the time with a bit of tweaking. EDIT:@No.54_Reddog I apologise as I have given you the wrong link above. Having looked at it, it's not the fully detailled account I promised you. However, After 45 minutes of searching, I've found it (and now bookmarked it for future reference). I don't think anything quite comes close to the detail in this link of the day-by-day unfolding of the battle.https://www.battleofbritain1940.net/0019.html Edited November 7, 2022 by 334th_Padre* Added new link

I mean in this game, "Cliffs of Dover", obviously... I'll ship to your very domicile address a bottle of authentic XO (extra old) Prince Hubert de Polignac Cognac (very far from being a bad cognac, trust me... my favourite I may say...). Deal?

Not a cognac lover, Reddog? (my proposal is very serious ) Edited November 7, 2022 by 343KKT_Kintaro amateur = not the same meaning in English, replaced by "lover"
BOO Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Nice to see. The clouds look great, the pit looks great and have those odd shadow lines that used to appear on the wings also gone? Thanks @9./JG52_J-HAT for taking the time to do this. As already pointed out the smoke plumes appear odd in the mist but I’m not sure any other title does it any better. Keep up posting stuff like this @Riley with perhaps some emphasis on the other features like speedtree and the 4K terrain.

Bloyamind Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 Hyped! Here's hoping my 1080 will be running this smoothly . Somehow I manage DCS 2.8 at 50-60fps with most things at max settings after some tweaking. But that offline with one or two aircraft in the vicinity. Looking great though! Any idea's on how the optimization will be? As in, will it be a bit tweakable? Combinations like old clouds but high res textures or vice versa? Exited! (even though no VR, which i'm not planning on).
