The binary opens by default.  I would delete the binary (.msnbin) and try to open the .mission file.

In my experience this is wrong and bad advice. Do not delete anything! Attempt to open the mission with the binary file as I originally suggested. If it's still not working, post your mission here for us to take a look at it.

The error message is the result of trying to open the binary file in the first place, and since re-saving to the current version hasn't worked, the binary is not going to be of any use so there's no harm in getting it out of the way so that the .mission file will open in its place.

No Mods Jack.

Guys - Thank you all for your help. I have posted the mission, I have lost work in the past by deleting the wrong thing. I guess not that I have a copy - I can try it. @Cynic_Al Deleting the .msnbin and trying to reopen the .mis didn't do the trick in this case, thank you for the suggestion (...glad I made a copy 1st LOL)

As I said, open the binary file and it should be fine. This is exactly what I've done, and I've resaved it to a new name.

-------------------------------------------

Open the mission editor and select open file ->

image.png.561be238af2b4b15c8e7d9b99a93b633.png

In the prompt, put *.* in the File Name block ->

image.thumb.png.dbf40999d9d5ab13eaead2677f385609.png

Select the binary file, then press Open ->

image.thumb.png.16fc2d2a54aa3bdf88ef3942d62f6117.png

Magic ->

image.thumb.png.99555a80b032323a95bc6069fd924289.png

Save as a new name ->

image.thumb.png.c9a60c5b469682e2099d6217f3d5072a.png

Use the new file name from now on.

Recommendation:

Use version control of some sort -> https://github.com/

same here...

Opening the mission (.bin renamed before)

-> error

Renaming taken back

Opening the *.bin

-> loading

Seems like you had a 'bug' on saving the mission from within the editor

I've noticed this really rare times and had no way to recreate that.

But some times the editor throws an error when saving the '.mission' file

but saved the '.bin' file before without any problems....

Seems the '.mission' file is corrupted

FYI, your original .mission file had two issues:

  • SeasonPrefix = "";
    should be changed to
    SeasonPrefix = "wi";
  • Missing the line
    # end of file
    at the bottom
    Note that there may be other lines missing above "# end of file", even though the mission loads OK.

Fixing those issues corrects the .mission file and it can be loaded.

Also note that it's possible that the .msnbin file you loaded to fix the issue may be missing any edits that you did to the .mission file before that file was corrupted.

@JimTM Interesting - I wouldn't have touched that at all - so that's is what broke during the save process. Well thank you because I made a couple of changes prior to the save procedure that failed. I remember what I was working on last so I can validate those changes were retained.

 I was prompted to download last patch before testing so I wonder if that had anything to do with anything. :scratch_one-s_head:

I've seen the "#end of file" issue in a few .mission files over the last year. The season parameter issue has occurred many times in the past but I have not seen that in a while. I'm not sure exactly what causes these issues.

Just looked at it in the ME ... wonder where it comes from, never seen so many unnamed 44 RAF USAAF bases etc ..

These might come in handy as Template for the Rheinland map ... if they''re not the same as the default Arf groups.

Must be an older one as the author is 1CGS and the RW stations group is not there.

No description, and no player route set or obliged jobs.

Seems that are only the ground objects for the different airfields. so should be ok....

That was me using @SYN_Vander's Destruction Tool. RAF bases are only 40% destroyed vs Luftwaffe are at 60% in late '44 simulating the Allies fix damage they did as they are now using said bases vs the Luftwaffe not having the time as they were under pressure. I drew the battle lines 1st and then selected each airfield on each side and made them a group - I should have done a group within a group in hindsight - my bad :dash:

Feel free and use anything in that mission.

What I am most proud of are the trains that when each is spawned, the route is displayed on the GUI map (to bad all the line types don't work as advertised - but still functional) and removed when either destroyed or reaches its destination.

Will do that .... just loaded the FW with rockets, but found no doggone train yet, if i get something worthwhile with it i'll repost

It's no where near finished - to kill train in its current state:

Enable an RAF aircraft at either Eindhoven or Volkel, sorry. LOL

I am building this mainly to watch AI, so my next steps are:

  • Randomize waypoints on the rail routes that trigger random RAF Typhoons and their escort
  • Randomize waypoints on rail routes that trigger random Luftwaffe cover groups
  • Randomize RAF and Luftwaffe groups that activate but do not takeoff until triggered
  • Randomize RAF and Luftwaffe groups that spawn and attack the other's airbases and various ground targets

OK, if you're working on it i'll wait for your outcome LoL. Just hate extensive train route programming, thought, 'hey, that part i can skip for now"..

Rocket shooting trains is nice, as sim game that is.

 Drop in an Allied aircraft at either of those bases and open up the GUI map and you will see where the train will spawn for now - as @Sketch would say, blow S$%^ up!

I wished the arrow/direction icons worked.

Kind of, The arrows don't work, unless I am doing something wrong. Only a double line (I will make them red before release - maybe LOL).

All the trains run from East - West or North - South.

Not sure the Luftwaffe were doing any train busting in Western Europe continent, unless way way behind enemy lines.

I changed the FW's airfield near Dusseldorf,, and set a route until an attack area CMD.

Stop for now, you can use it if you want ...

That plane is a place holder so I can spawn into the game :) None if the Luftwaffe aircraft have any functionality yet. FYI

@JimTM Dude in my excitement, I forgot to ask you - how did you even know what to look for? :scratch_one-s_head::)

The "#end of file" issue came out of a "divide and conquer" process I used while trying to find invalid MCU name characters buried in large mission files. That is, I split the mission file into two halves (both including the mandatory lines such as those near the start and the #end of file line) and loaded each half to see which one failed. Then, I took the one that failed and split it in half and so on. This requires you to pay attention to the required structure of the file and that's when I noticed the missing #end of file.

I learned of the season parameter issue from this post and it has occurred several times over the years (bug report here).
