My point was to record it in 1080p which is the crappiest res most play at with the crappiest AA (FXAA) and make a video that demonstrates that even then you can still see other planes. In a higher res with better AA and actually looking at your screen its even better.

@Jason_WilliamsThis sounds great! So we can count on the team not leaving those of us that fly in 5120 x 1440 and 8 bpc to suffer?

Really looking forward to seeing this in action. It is a good thing that the team has heard their customers and are trying to correct this problem.:good:

This (the planes) looks beautiful. And I might actually feel like a fighter pilot now rather than a fattened goose. The plane visuals seem very similar to Falcon BMS, which is a very very good thing. Nice work team; looking forward to getting back in the pit again.

There are several testers who use VR.

This new vidéo looks really good !!!
Does this also regulate the problems of disappearance / appearance of objects on the ground, boats and trains and trucks etc ...?
Thanks devs !! ?

@GOA_Karaya_VR Guys, just wait for the official release. These videos and pictures from a compressed video won't ever do justice to any real result in actual screens. The best thing is to wait and see it running in our screens and VR devices.

Analyzing these frame by frame like if it were an old manuscript is just stupid. In the tester team we are very happy as Jason said, for the third time :salute:

Relax. If it's great we all will be happy.

With all of respect in this case, i dont believe that this is a YouTube 1080 compressed issue. The contacts clearly disappear in the screen while anothers still renderded in the same frame.

You can accomplish the same thing by contacting me directly and not trying to cause a ruckus on the forum. This entire feature is still WIP and beta testers report no strange behavior as you are implying, either way I'm looking into it.

Compression issues don't all affect the picture shown in the same way, some pixels get smudged with other whilst other retain their information. This happens more when the pixels that in this case are the plane are a very small amount of the picture, thus they get compressed and disapear into the background much more easily than when the plane is occupying a larger number of pixels in the picture.

I can delete or hide any post I or we desire, ESPECIALLY posts about WIP features that are not released yet and ones that I have already commented on. As I told you in private, I've taken your videos of my videos to the team to look at. Continuing to post here to simply complain and agitate is not useful.

In this case it is best to not Making a discussion based on a yt video , it is simply hopeless.
There will be people not satisfied , and other over the top.
All based on their hardware or their ability to survive.
But at least, wait until we have it and see for our selves. You own a game worth much more than you payed. You do not own the product

I hope not. You sir are ruining our possibility to see a feature before release by making this fuss. You have no right to do so until it is in fact part of your game

We just have to wait and we will see for ourselves when we have this new marking on our PC ...
Jason has nothing to gain by lying to us ... if he says that spotting is better than before, it is.

Then what is the whole point of sharing with us a video , if we can not expose an evident error ? This is a public forum or a dictature?

If anybody need the video to see what im showing ( and Jason deleted ) send me a personal msg.

It's a work in process teaser video, not the final product. You pointed something out, no problem we'll look into it, but so far we think it is a blending issue or you are looking at a shadow on the ground. It's all moot anyways because the latest beta has even more tweaks, so no reason to get hysterical. By insisting we unhide the video even though it's available on your YT and I have watched it several times and I've shown it to the team,  you are just trying to cause a scene and egg on more complaining and force some kind of response from us. If you were truly interested in helping us, you wouldn't make such a ruckus. That's what people in this community do who really are interested in helping us with new features.

GOA - things are being worked on and are being tested ,  just relax and wait for an out come . None of us can do anything about it . We are all eager for this fix to happen .

Maybe "me and my whole [insert favorite plurality here] ???

Not sure what WIP update means to some but if this keeps up, I could see a future where we see less of them.

Thats what I think, too. And I hope Jason and team don't get tired of some individual responses. Anyway I'm very thankful for these kind of small insights into the dev process aside the regular DDs. It's just as in real life too, the happy majority is the silent part.

I've been curious about your opinion about all of this SharpeXB. You've had objections to any enhancements in the past and it looks like we are now to have more enhancements. Could you elaborate on how  you feel about this?

Posted (edited)

I think some of the "disappearing" people are talking about is horizon related. It seems like contacts become very difficult to discern when they are in that relative position to the observer. (and I daresay video compression does have an effect here) This makes sense in a way to me since you have the transition between clear and uncluttered background to the landscape and there is also the gradient of colour that gives them a less contrasting silhouette. However, anticipating the trajectory of each aircraft correctly made it much easier to re-accquire them, even against the ground clutter only moments later.

Tbh, I'm pretty impressed.

You might misunderstand my opinions on all this.
I have always been against excessive enhancements such as egregious “smart scaling” or artificial solutions such as “dots”

Solutions which penalize higher resolutions, many of the older methods were based around low resolutions and encourage players to lower theirs. Or systems which simply look bad or awkward like the “inverse zoom” effect.

I’m always in favor of improving this aspect in a realistic and believable way. I haven’t actually tried this new system out but what I see in the video example looks much like what I see now, just a bit more defined. And although scaling a algorithm is used, it doesn’t appear excessive. I see a bit better contrast and sharpness of the other aircraft against the ground and better reflections, yet it’s still possible to lose sight of a target as it should be. It’s good to see 1CGS really evaluating this in 4K as well. Looking towards the future and not rehashing past methods.

The only part of the new proposal I’m not in favor of is having two settings, which is divisive in multiplayer.  If the solution is good and realistic there should be no reason to have two choices.

I think that the alternate visibility should be viewed as an assist for people that just don't want to deal with difficult spotting. This is similar in spirit to options like icons, automated engine controls, and aiming assists. They're not meant to be realistic, but I'm sure that many offline players find them helpful.

Controversy will probably subside fairly quickly as most servers stick to a single setting. I don't recall many flame wars about the original alternate visibility.

Unless something has changed drastically in this upcoming update which they said has not, lowering resolution still benefits spotting.

There will always be a certain amount of that just due to pixel blooming. But it sounds like Jason is running it in 4K

But it depends on what you mean by “benefit”? Seeing blobs at long range or being able to ID something

Eh this discussion is so old... let’s see what the new fix is like.

So stale man. Everyone be chill till the update comes.
