(Compatible to PWCG v 10.0.1)

Here is a link to a quick version of my mod compatible with PWCG 10.0.1.

Here a few screens of it and I will add some more detail to things over time.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/hm0i051fk2zxbab/PWCG_Alternative_Menus_v2.2.7z?dl=0

Thanks again to Pat for PWCG and making it modable.

I have my font a little small in the above image I think, that is not the mod just my own leftover PWCG UI config settings I mean to change.

I will give it a try, next weekend, I do like the PWCG very much only his used layout could need some improvements. In the PWCG for RoF I did changed the layout to a more RoF design.

Thanks

Hi, good idea, tried it in v 9.1.0, but screen is blank ... (3840 x 2160, 150% scaling) ..

Which screen is blank? All screens?

I think there maybe something wrong with the file I put up for download, will take a look and reupload...

OK, I downloaded the actual file that is on drop box and it does work, but you have to be careful to copy the right folder into the MODS folder in PWCG that JSGME will create.

In testing the download file I made the mistake of dropping the folder whic it is unzipped into straight into the MODS folder, it needs to be the one inside. (Apologies if you are well aware of what you are doing already)

When the mod is installed for me, the main PWCG screen differs. And the path from BoX to the mod files is like this:

...1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\PWCGBoS\MODS\PWCG__Alternate_Menus\BoSData\Images...

Maybe check what you have in the PWCG config for these vlaues:

PWCG screen height: 2160
PWCG screen width: 3840

You should be seeing that IL2 logo on the dark grey without my mod anyway, mine just changes the aspect ratio of it. But if the mod files are in the wrong folder the main screen should be unchanged and show the logo ok.

So do you see the logo normally, then it disappears with my mod? Check the values then.

(And I assume you are using JSGME to install the mod.)

sorry, been offline a few days. nope, blank screen, no logo, and where's that config file?

Is there an FC version BTW?

The configuration is the configuration option on the screen PWCG opens on, then select the ' radio' button for GUI.

Do you see the logo alright without my mod?

I don't have FC sorry, so haven't made anything for it.

Transform it to an JSGME suitable mod and after that I have tested it,  only I noticed the redstar is now being stretched. But that can be fixed by using PW stock image I guess.

Another notification, but keep in your mind this could be because I use the darkgreen panels instead of the “ paintings on canvas”,  your layout is not that difference only it is more cleaner, so in VR mode all the text is better to see.  I will use this mod, with your permission, privately as an mixed PatWJohnY (JSGME) mod for BoS & FC as looking at the VRscreens it is an improvement.

I do not know if you are going to continue with image improvements for PWCG, but one layout I did like was this style from a member here that eventually could not design it because he was not aware that Pat uses JAVA coding

oFY9JlX_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&f

Now its waiting for 1C to get finally the PWCG implementated into the BoX GUI, like the PWCG GUI mod in ROF made by @AnKor

It is set up for JSGME already, just JSGME in PWCG directory not BoX so there's no need for mods on mode to have it run

I don't know why you have a skewed red star, but I did suspect it wouldn't be easy to display things correctly on different monitors and aspects, it's really a personal mod I'm just sharing in case it helps.

I'm suprised you can't see much difference though,...I wonder if this installs properly at all for people judging by the only two replies here saying that either it doesn't work at all or there's little difference.

In my version there are changes including:

Bricks are orange not black!

The blackboards have been totally redrawn, you can see the placement of eraser and chalk is different if you have it installed correctly.

Pilot log books are landscape shaped on the desk not portrait, and they are coloured differently. The open log book is a new image too.

Icons are different on the roster, I have a tick instead of the health symbol for exampel, and they are on a light grey background to blend together

Background to the roster is lined paper

The desktop image is built up from scratch

I'm currently changing the medals too for my own preference as I noted in another thread.

Fell free to use anything of mine thast works for you though.

Thats a nice looking design above, but ultimately I don't like the IL2 BoX GUI at all, it's sterile and soul- less. PWCG is much more of the format I like in games, and of course my take on it expresses my preferences further, and I would prefer BoX change their GUI to be more of one with character, like PWCG has put effort into creating. I am totally limited to just altering images in PWCG for my mod, I don't have the software, knowledge or time to go into Java itself, so cannot do anything with layout positions, buttons etc. I also suspect Java is awkward to set layouts in, else things could be anchored and locked to aspect in the first place.

(Its a shame that the GUI in BoX is so sterile because they clearly have people who can make great art, I guess just not the time.)

@John_Yossarian, this mod looks great! I don't bother using JSGME for this as I could always revert back to original by unzipping the latest PWCG installation package. For me (using 3840x2160 display) the star is also distorted, but I couldn't care less. The rest is working perfectly fine. Many thanks for your work and really looking forward to the medals modification.

Hmm, maybe I messed up somewhere on the file in the uploaded mod files btu I thought I'd checked.

Which star is it, the one on the main home page of PWCG that is in the images earleir in the thread?

You mention rsolution in yoru post, is that for the monitor or the PWCG config? Could you let me know what you have both as Monitor setting and in the PWCG config options. Also if you use window scaling other than 150% which I use (I don't think this impacts Java display though). If I can recreate the stretching I can easily enough fix that image and if needed provide a new Mod version with that in it.

Posted

The main home page PWCG star. The one shown in this thread.

The resolution 3840x2160 is used both as my monitor resolution and the resolution in PWCG config. I also use 150% as the screen scaling like you do.

Posted

This one is distorted for me in the default PWCG GUI at 1920x1080. It is slightly wider than high, like the complete PWCG GUI is wider than high.

Some of these things might have to be handled in code.  The image distorts because relative screen dimensions (height/width ratios) are different.

For example, having two images - a solid gray background and the middle part.  Stretch the solid gray background across the whole screen and then add the middle section resized based on screen height.  In this way the image will never distort based on aspect ratio.

Ah, yes that was my fear really, that the slight variances in monitors despite the same resolution can mess things up.

The little I know of css and html seems like an easier way to regulate things on a screen than Java sounds to force, (but css itself gave me a headache at times).

It's frustrating because if you put effort into small details on an image you want those to be represented as you intend them, not warped by the monitor. I'm assuming that every image I've made will be stretched to some extent for people, but it's more aparrent with the geometrically regular star.

Ah well, the frustrations of computers eh?!

I think that is just a PWCG thing, I noticed something in the squadron log I think it was that didn't show enough info too. Have you tried it witout my mod to see what it shows?

I don't think I change that page at all in my mod. I set myself my own font size in the PWCG settings though. I can't trigger that to test unfortunately.

I played with the font size and in fact I had to change Primary Font  Large Size to 14 for the text to appear completely.

Interesting, which PWCG version are you using, because in 9.2.0 I can change the numbers for whatever I want, nothing changes.

I'm using always the latest ? So currently on 9.2.0. I'll put my GUI settings in the spoiler below:

I remember having a pilot get severley injured some time ago and having the same problem where I couldn't see the required time, so I just gave him a number of weeks, and, I think that was before I started messing with any of the textures. So I think this is somthing within PWCG itself, or at least a combo of 'font size' + 'java box size/placement' + 'monitor differences'.

My mods change the texture files only, and whilst I may change the size of these sometimes, I think they are 'servants' to how Java sizes its boxes and positions things; hence textures get stretched rather than the Java boxes.

I suspect the solution is that the text boxes need extending a bit (or something )in Java to cope with the font size/monitor differences.

If I have a moment I'll check what the other place I saw text getting lost is, I think it was the squadron log.

I changed my text size to be smaller than the default settings so I would have expected that to have allowed more text to be shown! But maybe it doesn't work like that.

I just did some checks and I think it is actually 'Typewriter font' size that is enabling you to see the full label on the leave page.

I'm going to change mine to 14 from now on.

But now I think I'm going mad because sometimes it doesn't seem to change anything!

However, further playign about and :

The main start screen star does get squashed/stretched according to a font size that is being used so that explains why similar monitors and things are showing different things, the font size on that screen seems to have an input. Which font size that is exactly I haven't determined yet!

If anyone has a Britsh pilot campaign with a lot of medals awarded to the Pilot that they could share with me that would be appreciated. I'm doing the British medals but can't test how they look as all the aces are Soviet or German.

I've updated the mod link so it should now have my take on the medals included. Apologies it does nothing for the Italian ones yet and they will stick out for now because I use a slightly different felt background.

I've also just now 26/06/20 updated the file you get on the download link to include a new item on the desk (compass).

I'll have to start version control I think, maybe I will do so when I make whatever changes are necessary with the next version of PWCG that has GUI changes in.

Sorry, Italian career still not supported (you will see US images I think). (I will do that as soon as/if the theme becomes available.)

I've done a version for the PWCG Beta v 10.0.0.

This doesn't have so much in it because of some layout changes and improvements that are in the new PWCG (the main screen stars are fine for me now without modding them for example). I will look to add back in some of the thigns that are missing and there are a few changes I plan to make generally. I also am aware of text running out of one of my images on one screeen when at the default text size.

Here's the link, I will update the front post with this version when PWCG v10.0.0 is released.

You have a mistake in the last picture. In Russian in this particular case, it is correct to write not the "Военно-воздушных сил", but the "Военно-воздушные силы", and even better "Военно-воздушные силы РККА", that is what they were called then.

Sorry here I go again, please use another color of the Russian letters, use silver like the color of the soviet emblem. Take a sample at the German box, thats looking much better because of that. Also the type of letters better use the same style as Kur12 posted.

Yep I did use a silver (grey) colour, just I didn't add any texture to it. I'll try and add something. Also I don't read Russian, it seems there are two types of characters for writing as well when I looked into it, so I was completely clueless before seeing the image above about fonts and letters.

For the German one I was able to find an image of a logbook then cut the words out, rather than use typing and a font. I don' think I can with the image above as it seems there is some curve to the letters alignment but I will do my best to copy it.
