@LukeFF, I don’t know if Sneaksie is going to like this..... he’s probably getting tired of me. I’ll see what I can do, but I’m waiting until you finish the campaign to send him the files. ?

OK @LukeFF, I went through the entire campaign and checked all loadouts and compared them to the briefings. I have corrected the bomb load in missions number 05, 06, 13 and 17. I have corrected the .50 cal ammo loadout in a few of the later missions where it says you have 2000 rounds, but only 1200 were loaded. Fortunately not all of the 1000 pounders were missing. It was only those 4 missions out of about 12

Thank you Luke, if everyone was this attentive I would not be doing this now, but that's on me. No one else had time to test the entire campaign, and most people don't notice the small details that an experienced tester does.

I have not addressed the trucks yet, but I will at some point. I think the latest rounds of Hotfixes is over for a while, and the 2 significant errors have been updated, so it might be a little while before these loadouts are updated on your end. Enjoy the campaign and keep posting back with anything else you find. That's really what this thread is for.

I love that campaign. After working on my own one, dealing with the editor logic and MCUs, I have a good time flying your lightning.

Thank you so much for that great campaign

I’m glad you like it. I agree that working with the ME gives you a much greater appreciation for other people’s missions when they are well done. It takes a lot of work to make specific things happen and then get everything to blend together like it was supposed to be that way.

I really enjoy flying other people’s missions because I don’t know what’s going to happen. If I made it, the suspense is gone and I just want to make it harder because I already figured out how to survive it.

Exactly.

That what I told to myself while flying your campaign.

Don’t take it the wrong way (I hope my English would be good enough), but I found out that the objective in the two first missions was not complicated to achieve. In my campaign, I try to find how to make it harder because i’m convinced that it’s not enough. I think that it should be the same feeling for every mission/campaign maker.

I just hope that I will be at least, able to make a credible campaign as a minimum

To each his own.

I think creating a believable/immersive mission environment is the most important thing.

I find that trying too much to make something "harder" is a slippery slope because whatever parameter you used to create this difficulty, be it AAA guns, enemy aircraft etc can change

with the next update. So your "hard" mission can instantly become impossible or at the very least frustrating and require too much 'upkeep' on the creator's part.

Thanks gents, @Jaegermeister and @Gambit21 !

I learn with the best, sincerely

In fact, when I test my missions, I just think that maybe, players will find it too easy or so. That’s why I try to find a way to give a better challenge to the player. But I agree, make it too hard should be a great mistake

Yes, that's right. I am in no way offended. It is a historical campaign meant to represent what really happened to the best of my ability, and you're telling me that I did what I tried to do.

The objective was very simple. You find your target. You verify it to avoid killing your own guys. You drop your bombs. You get the hell out before you get blasted out of the sky like some of your buddies already have. Anyone that thinks you are going to circle around and drop in on every AAA gun with your .50 cals is a bit misguided. The common logic was to only make 1 pass and get out of Dodge.

And you have certainly succeeded at that.

I just want to make it believable. A balance of too little  resistance and unsurvivable. If you can't make it through the mission 3 times in a row, even if you know it's coming, something is wrong because those guys did not get shot down every time they flew.

It seems strange that in mission #5, the P38's are attacked by P51's...……..or has a mistake been made?

FYI those are captured P51's and are considered enemy planes.

@Jaegermeister

Thought you might like this with a cup of coffee and one of your favourite biscuits?

Just as an aside, MY rig isn't uber-gaming-powerful (it's a Workstation) and it runs THIS campaign without any problems at all...

It was strange to them at the time too I would imagine. They did have big Balkan Crosses painted on them though.

Very confusing...

I'll try beer and chips at the moment, but it looks interesting. I'll give it a watch.

I'm glad your rig can run it smoothly. It got better on mine when I disabled everything that was out of visual range. It takes a good bit of extra time to do, but I think it's worth it.

Ok I unzipped them to data/graphics/skins/P38J25 is that correct?

Posted

That’s affirmative.

but there two others planes skins in the .zip file. You should double check and put the right files in the right folders (P_51 and A-20)

I saw them and wondered that, do I remove the P-51 folder and replace it with the one in the zip and should I do that with the P38 and A20 or do I put the folder inside the folder for those planes?

Posted

Nope.

Two options:

- put the « skins » folder from the zip in data/graphics/

- put the .dds file in each skins/plane folder

i.e: for the P51, Take the .dds files and paste them in the data/graphics/skins/P-51D15 folder.

Same for the A-20 and P-38.

DO NOT REMOVE ANY FOLDER FROM YOUR INSTALLATION

The file is set up to unzip to your main IL2 Great Battles directory. It will automatically install in the correct folders.

The other option is to unzip it to your desktop or downloads folder and manually cut and paste the skins into the correct aircraft folder.

Loved the mission where the jeep crosses the runway right as you are taking off. ?

@Jaegermeister, I hope I'm not being a pest, but I'm seeing quite a few missions with Soviet supply trucks at the airfield (I'm about halfway through the campaign right now, so dunno if they are around in later missions).

Yeah, that guy lives dangerously. I guess he had a hot date in Charleroi.

About the trucks, yeah... you have mentioned that. They are going to haunt you for the entire campaign just because you noticed them. I have not uploaded the corrections yet. You need to hurry up and finish the campaign and give me the whole list so I can do it all at the same time... :P

Hey @Jaegermeister, I don’t have much time to fly your campaign so far, but when I land on the home base, and receive the command to drive to the parklot, i’m still a little puzzled... Where is this damn parking ? I was lucky enough so far, to land in the first place, so I never had the opportunity to simply follow someone else to it.

I love the special skin on my plane on mission 3... This pin-up on the nose has some serious antlers and remind something but can’t remember what.... ;)

Trucks don’t bother me, I like these Easter eggs sometimes ?

LOL! OK, I'll try to remember to list the missions where I see them all after I finish the campaign.

Do you have subtitles on? You need those. It should tell you where to go. If you don't follow the prompts, it just means you will have to shut down and hit escape to end the mission.

Yeah, that skin with the kill markings and the orange stag was an accident. That's not exactly historical and it wasn't supposed to be in the file. Oops... You might have also noticed the letter "J" on it. I guess that's an Easter egg now too.

Thanks, I found the place yesterday. In fact I was turning right on the first exit on the runway... Subtitles should not appear so far away.

I still had the « special nose art » once again in #5... Of course I noticed the J

That’s kinda funny though

Yeah, it's the "other left". I guess I taxi a little fast.

Now that you figured it out I guess you know it's going to change.

Dumb I am

BTW there are some little errors in the French subtitles. Nothing important, some letters inverted sometimes

If you want to specify exactly what they are, I can correct them when I do another update. PM me with a corrected .fra file maybe?

*.fra are not reachable for a scripted campaign.

Anyway, your translator PMed me. We should succeed in correct the few minor mistakes.

150 Octane thanks for a brilliant SC.

Also, thanks for the use of your P-38. Should be good as new in a couple of months, provided you don't mind #2 being a P&W Double Wasp.

On one of the intense bombing runs, while evading AAA and attempting to maintain formation, I saw this (image attached). Thought it might be Aachen-Saar programme Type 39 of the Westwall. But maybe just tents. Or tents being used to represent Dragons' Teeth.

At any rate, Good Show, all around.

Your flying the distance from the actual airfield to the actual target zones and encountering or not encountering exactly the number of aircraft intended by the mission designer. In this case Jaeger.
