Coming this Friday I'm very excited to be able to welcome Jason Williams on to the second episode of the Stormbirds Podcast. The episode is currently scheduled to release at 11:00 am EDT (on Friday May 22nd). Jason and I talked about a little bit of everything from flight simming in general to where he thinks the industry is going to the entire IL-2: Great Battles Series from Bodenplatte to Tank Crew to Flying Circus.

I got a huge number of questions sent to me in advance and I wanted to thank everyone for sending them in. I know I didn't even scratch the surface but I hope I got some interesting information in there. If the episode is well liked and the format is working (this is my first podcast folks!), I'd be interested to do a follow-up and maybe get some more questions in there.

If you missed it, Episode 1 was also launched today! It's all about IL-2: Great Battles multiplayer and it features @Requiem @Utopioneer @Wolfpack345 and Jon Coughlin (developer of Roger Meatball).

Nice, @ShamrockOneFive! Are your podcasts available on YouTube only right now? I didn't see anything when I searched for it on Podcast Republic.

That was an interesting discussion. After reading people's comments here for so many years, it's always a pleasure to hear some of them in actual conversation.

This is f( piiiip) gold. Jason and developers might benefit using podcast more. Writing tend to upset people.

I just listened to the whole podcast, thanks for that guys!

It’s oddly appropriate for me at the moment since I just started flying MP again for the first time since IL2 1946. Well done.

Just YouTube at the moment. As a podcast newbie there was a lot to try and get done and I haven't had time to go beyond YouTube.

I'm open to suggestions. I'll look into Podcast Republic for sure.

Great timing! I love single player but I think there's lots of fun to be had in multiplayer as well and more players in multiplayer is definitely a great way to realize a strong community.

So Jason won’t deal with legit cheating and the Backdoor hacks he’s known about (shown to him) for a few years..  But he bans the one graphic mod that actually improves gameplay..  WTF is the deal with this guy? It’s like he’s trying to sabotage this game and force people to stop playing it. Pretty much every post from this guy is him trashing his customers.. and now this. Well done dude.

Alternative perspective: Jason deals with cheating by closing mods that allow possible advantages for one player over another.

No advantages for anyone.  What's the issue?

Actually.. He hasn’t addressed the cheating and backdoor mods. Still a huge issue and he wanted nothing to

do with fixing this issue even after being shown. Really don’t care if you believe me or not. Just a video game at the end of the day.

cheers

I wasn't trying to start a fight.  I'm sure anything that alters gameplay from its intended form is the aim.  We can debate whether or not it is an effective strategy.  I'm just suggesting that was the intention with the measure.  It is a start and probably not the end of the issue.

I know you weren’t  Beazil. Sorry if I came off in a messed up tone. You’re a good dude, just irritating because IL-2 is awesome. Much love and respect dude.

Right on man.  I've just seen alot of finger pointing and anger lately.  I love this sim and I love the community.  I have no wish to be part of a divisive issue but would rather work toward whatever will work for everyone.  I feel better doing that than complaining.  Know what I mean?  :)

Absolutely. I usually keep quiet, but couldn’t on the topic of cheating. Especially after hacks were shown (In detail) and pretty much swept under the rug with people being told to keep quiet.. and it still not being corrected after all this time. The VR graphics mod is absolutely not an issue, but it’s being treated as if it’s the only problem, (nothing compared to the real cheats/hacks).

Got it off my chest, so I’ll leave it at that :)

cheers dude

First, sorry but you don't know what we've done in the background to stop cheating. We've done a lot and by "we" I mean my talented overworked team. You should be mad at the cheaters who create these things and break our design.

Second, these hacks are not easy to stop due to their nature and the latest "mod" in question has been around for years (and many of you like it and the community seemed to accept it), but now it's all of a sudden an issue I need to solve ASAP. Sorry guys, just not possible. And how to "solve" it to everyone's satisfaction? I have no friggin' clue how to do that and we have no time for these distractions at the moment anyways. I've only closed discussion about this issue at the moment. It's a huge negative distraction that just pisses people off.

Our update tomorrow may render some or all of it obsolete anyways. Right now we need to focus on the update.

I hear that for sure.  And I had an initial reaction of disappointment as well.  But it got me thinking alot about this problem, and I realised there is always someone raging about how someone else has it better than they do by either zooming more than them, reading tech chat to have some perceived advantage over their "hardcore" opponent, and other hogwash that causes people to gnash teeth and hurl curses at each other from the other side of the world, like I've seen here.

Thanks for the response Jason.  You are the best person for it.

I think your solution is the only one there is right now.

Deferred rendered update as shown in the last Youtube video ? That would be fantastic news.

Sticking to the topic in hand:

I'm looking forward to the interview! I do hope there are some difficult questions tackled, but even if it's a 100% non-adverserial interview, it'll still be a fun listen, I'm sure.

We covered a few topics that I know were burning out there. There's dozens more that I got that we just didn't have the time to cover. I know people would love to hear what they can about the behind the scenes and so I tried to cover the bases there. There are some more technical questions that we could potentially do with Jason plus a few other members of the team in the future.

Yes! This is what I was waiting for from Shturmovikfest!

How spotting has been improved in the new renderer update and his thoughts on recent negative G effects in game as people have been abusing it to evade. I think those would be great questions.

Otherwise an interesting podcast and looking forward to it.

Maybe ask him about what plans are for the future of Tank Crew? People on both forums seem to be getting antsy about lack of developer comments (even though it is mentioned in DDs).

Would be interesting to know, if FC has any future. I doubt that but any spark of hope would be great.
