Q_Walker Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 I would suggest that they finish Normandy and then make Italy their next Battle. I think this would round out the Western Front so that we would have three Eastern and then another three Western Front battles. They should then have a late war battle to round out the series, possibly a late Eastern Front scenario (Bagration) or maybe a Berlin scenario.
oc2209 Posted July 2, 2020 Posted July 2, 2020 Based on this thread and the non-reaction to my suggestion about a Courland Pocket DLC, the late-war Eastern Front isn't in high demand. Regardless of whether the devs are Russian, there absolutely needs to be the Yak-3 and La-7 in the game. It'd be totally imbalanced to have all the high-performance late war Allied and German planes, but no Russian. Besides that, the late war Russian planes are excellent and deserve to be showcased. I also think the Ta-152 needs to be in the game. It's everything the 190D is, but better. Both the extended wing and shorter wing version of the 152 should be available. The Germans also could get the Do-335, which I'd love. An He-219 would be nice, but without night operations or Lancasters to shoot at, it seems a little pointless. In terms of going back in time, I support a France '40 DLC. It could include an early Spitfire, which I'd like to try versus the cannon-armed ones. I also fully support a Spanish Civil War DLC, even if I doubt it'd ever be made. The earliest 109s handle quite differently than what we've come to expect, I imagine. 1

The 190D was faster down low and had a higher roll-rate to start with. In the missions the 152 was used in (very few sorties), the D-9 was the better airplane. The fast Doras (TM) and a 152C would rock, but the war ended when they'd see thir production ramp up. Interestingly, there was a "Bodenmotor"-variant of the Jumo213A, which supposedly could have produced around 2400HP on the deck at the cost of a lower rated altitude - I wonder why this one never got into production. Maybe @JtD does know. Probably a standardisation over optimisation thing (higher production volume trumps production tailored for performace). Then again, why add late-war german wonderplanes that saw extremely limited service, when there's still a lot of aircraft to cover that actually were a thing?

If they are smart they choose Poland 44/45 as a module, but who knows where they stand until then?
mattebubben Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 (edited) First of all i would love a Far-East scenario (Pacific or Burma etc) But if that is still not possible then i would want something in the med. (Which could give us some new and unique aircraft to what we already have) Personally i think something focused on the Invasion of Sicily (Operation Husky) could be really fun. And maybe even having two versions of the map similarly to what i planned for Normandy (One that had Sicily,Malta a bit of the Italian West coast and then extends all the way to Tunisia for the initial invasion and then another for later scenarios that does not include Tunisia but instead extends further into Italy as Allied aircraft were starting to base out of Sicily) And the planeset could be something like this. ALLIES. P-40F or L A-36 Apache P-38F,G or H Spitfire MK.VIII (Or Alternatively a early Mk.IX with either the Merlin 63 or 66 engines but the early Tail and armament) Bristol Beaufighter Mk VI or Mk X (Hard to Pick which would be the Collectors aircraft as they were all important to the Battle) AXIS. Macchi C.205 Reggiane Re.2002 Reggiane Re.2001 (Or Re.2005 though its unlikely they could get info for it and very few were present) Fiat G.50Bis (G.50s flew more attack missions during the invasion of Sicily then any other Italian aircraft) Collectors:SM.79 Sparviero (While they were present during the period they primarily flew Night missions as they were so vulnerable to attack during the day) This would be something different instead of the same 109s and 190 for the axis, and would also add some often overlooked allied aircraft (Merlin Powered P-40s and the Allison powered A-36 which is a commonly overlooked variant of the Mustang, the Spitfire Mk.VIII which often gets overlooked in favor of the Mk.IX and the Beaufighter that also does not get enough love) This would be the perfect time to add in Torpedos. And a map like this would also be perfect for earlier scenarios like the Siege of Malta and Operation Pedestal etc (and we have most of the aircraft needed for the later parts of the Siege already in the game) Though it might be hard to get the info for some of the Italian aircraft. (I just want something different from the same German aircraft we have already seen and flown in BoX for 6 years) Edited July 3, 2020 by mattebubben 4
LuftManu Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 Italy seems to be a reasonable choice for both reusing European assets and having more options for the already depleted Axis figthers along adding more options like torpedos.

357th_KW Posted July 11, 2020 Posted July 11, 2020 A Sicily 1943 scenario would be really nice. You could probably squeeze some of Tunisia and Italy onto the map, and you’d definitely have Malta. This would give the chance to add in torpedos and a lot more detailed ship modeling to prep for the pacific. Allies: Spit Vc trop, P-38G, P-40F/L, Beaufighter X - flyable B-25 as the collector Axis: MC205, G50, SM79, Do-217 - link the existing G6 as the collector and add a trop filter mod (maybe add that onto the F4, G2, G4 as well) This would save some time on the G6 that could be devoted to the other planes and new mechanics, while still putting a 109 in there for a first time buyer. People who already own the G6 could skip the premium version unless they really want a B-25.

The G.50 at this point was the G.50Bis and it was used by ground attack units as a Fighter bomber and not in a fighter role. I dont think there were many C.200s at sicily during operation Husky but i know there were several units flying the G.50 And it made up the majority of the Italian ground attack aircraft that attempted to strike the Allied landings at the start of the operation. 1

Very true!...The Mediterranean ( Italian front), Desert front ( North Africa). Though I doubt about the North Africa front since it has already been inserted with the Cliffs of Dover. I would have really love to see in IL2 GB. AFTER the Normandy... More number of planes addition opportunity, and I think the materials are more easier to get than with the Japanese theater which they are having difficulty in even at present. Also even if Japanese theater is considered, I doubt there would be much content like we have with the current battles. Edited August 9, 2020 by jojy47jojyrocks

Jason has stated they will not do a Battle of Britain or North African expansion as Team Fusion are there. He did not rule out Italy on those grounds but rather that he and the team knew very little about this theatre. Of course, if we invade Italy we can have all mentioned above AND carriers? ?? 2
Enceladus828 Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Personally, I’d prefer a Late war Eastern Front or BoBe over Italy after BoN. IMO, Italy seems like a DLC for BoN, and would probably be like a Collector Map as for a 1943-45 Italian Front, what planes would there be that aren’t in BoN and were used in considerable numbers?
mattebubben Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 (edited) 20 hours ago, Enceladus said: Personally, I’d prefer a Late war Eastern Front or BoBe over Italy after BoN. Well They could do the The invasion of Sicily / The initial 1943 invasion of Italy In which case almost none of the BoN aircraft are suitable for that scenario... Since either they entered service to late (With most being either very late 1943 or early-mid 1944 aircaft) or were not used over italy at that time. So they could add a WHOLE BUNCH of interesting and unique aircraft (and many of whom we could probably only get with a Battle of Sicly etc) For example we could finaly have Axis fighters that are not just different flavors of 109s and 190s. Like the Macchi C.205 Reggiane Re.2002 Reggiane Re.2001 (Or Re.2005 though its unlikely they could get info for it and very few were present) Fiat G.50Bis (G.50s flew more attack missions during the invasion of Sicily then any other Italian aircraft) or an Italian bomber like SM.79 Sparviero (a Battle of Sicily Expansion might be a great time for them to add Aerial Torpedos for example) And for the Allies we have aircraft like A-36 Apache P-40F or L P-38F,G or H Spitfire MK.VIII Bristol Beaufighter Mk VI or Mk X All of which are aircraft that saw significant use in the 1943 Sicily / Italy Operations. While almost none of the BoN aircraft did. The Fw-190A-6 might just barely fit the timeline but other then that... So in my view another Eastern front Scenario would be far more copy paste then a 1943 Italy scenario... (Since were are Running out of German Fighters and the Soviets would mostly get slightly different variants of what they already have) Edited August 11, 2020 by mattebubben
-250H-Ursus_ Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 I think is the answer, no, for a time in order to fix some stuff wich are important, like spotting, DM and FM etc. But after that period of time i mentioned it, best thing is end eastern front Battle of Berlin Yak-3, Yak-9U, La-7 (Collector plane) Tu-2, IL-10 (Russian Side) Bf-109G-10, Fw-190A9, Do-217J, Do-217K, Ta-152C (This is because i don't have any idea of what Germany doesn't have in the current planeset) 1
Mmaruda Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 It's not my intention to push the dev or even do any sort of poll. Just interested in what you folks want to see, but more importantly why. Pacific comes to mind, and while it's already been said that it's not an easy task to do, at least realistically, I'm curious about the appeal. The old IL-2 had it and... it was by far my most beloved theater plane-wise and most hated gameplay-wise. All these looooooong booooorin missions looking for enemy carriers to come up with bingo and return to the boat. Not to mention super-agile Zero's demanding some expert knowledge to fly against. In SP it was terrible, since you could forget team tactics with AI wingmen. The Med I think is pretty much out, considering Team Fusion's release - why compete against yourself? Which leaves us with... IDK Korea? I personally would love that - old school BFM without the engine management hussle. Hell, you could put carrier-ops here easy. But then again... Maybe some other Cold War theater? Honest question - we got Eastern Front and Western Front covered, sans BOB, except Pacific and Med, what esle would be fun? Post WWII Isreael, some obscure 1960s conflict? What would you like that seems viable in terms of data and development effort?
IRRE_Axurit Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Sicily or the south of italy seems the most logical to me for the future. And I would be very happy. 5

Post WWII Isreael, some obscure 1960s conflict? What would you like that seems viable in terms of data and development effort? I feel similarly regarding the Pacific theatre. IIRC in old Il-2 alot of those maps were shrunk from real life, which so far Il-2 Great Battles does not do. So thats a lot of long flights. Multiplayer gets difficult too...if you are launching from carriers then you have to either have a large number of carriers to handle new spawns and landings or some kind of air start system. Late war eastern front is a possibility and the most likely one I think. After two modules of western front development they may decide to go back that way and finish things up in a sense - get the late war Russian types like Yak-3, La-7 etc. I would love to see italy just for the theatre. I think most of the plane types in use there are already in other modules but it could still be doable. Early western front like Battle of France would be interesting, if a little short in terms of career mode. Early hurricanes and 109s, french types, early stukas and dornier bombers. 1

J2_Oelmann Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Pacific. Either some kind of Burma or carrier-ops. Spanish civil war Invasion of France Italy For WW1 Bloody April Verdun Eastern front Italian front 1

Avimimus Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 My own suspicions would be a '45 East scenario (maybe a German bomber, maybe a He-162 or Do-335, Ju-87D5, La-7, Yak-3, maybe a Russian bomber etc.) Or Battle of Britain (Spit MkI & MkII, Hurrican Mk.II, Bf-110C, Bf-109E3, Ju-87B, Do-17 AI, Ju-88A1, He-111H2, maybe a British bomber e.g. Wellington?) They'd also talked about Korea... if they did that it would make sense to do a Cold War West Germany scenario set in 1950-1955... prior to 1955 avionics are still simple, the planesets would overlap, and they could expand to types that were only available in Europe. So that could be two scenarios (~4-5 years of work)
Missionbug Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 For me the Finnish front or early France, not much interested in late war, Pacific or jets to be honest, Italy might be good. If F.C. develops any further then again having a channel scenario as in R.O.F would be great. For T.C. if it develops hard to say as I have not played much with it but I guess covering Europe to accompany the current and pending theaters. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete. 1
jollyjack Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 After what the Nazis did to Russia, it only would be fair that Berlin finally gets on a map ... 2
cardboard_killer Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Battle of France/Low countries would be great, as well as Tunisia 42-43. But, I suspect that middle-late war USSR is the answer. Kursk/Orel/Kharkov, Crimea (could have both 1943-44 and 1941-2 with the planes already in the air now I think); Poland '44; Battle of Berlin. 1
Burdokva Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 (edited) Late-war Eastern Front makes most sense to me. October 1944 through to May 1945, East Prussia with the main drive towards Berlin being the most likely setting (smaller chance for Courland Peninsula, Budapest, Vienna or Prague areas). It would present, if one owns the other expansions and CPs, the most complete plane set. New planes would most probably be Yak-3 and P-39Q, probably Yak-9U or La-7 as Collector Planes, and I suspect Il-2M3 late or Il-10 as ground attack, and Tu-2S as the bomber for the Soviets. Bf-109G10 and FW-190A9 (with F9 mod) as a given, He-162, Ju-88C6, Ju-87D possibly. Lots of Luftwaffe units active around the Berlin area from January-February 1945 up to the end, most of the best Red Airforce units. It would also round up the Eastern Front nicely, leaving only Autumn 1943 - Autumn 1944 as a gap in a complete career on the Eastern Front - which could be partially recreated with a dynamic campaign over the existing maps. I would say Souther Italy or Sicilly between Summer 1943 - January 1944, or Norther Italy between Spring 1944 - Spring 1945, are good but less likely choices due to the potential overlap with CLoD. Although one could make the argument that the teams have agreed to reuse assets, in which case there's a higher chance. I would love to see the later Regia Aeronautica birds. Less likely, although interesting options, would be Leningrad Area during the Continuation War 1941 - 1944, Phoney War and Fall of France in 1940. Awesome but completely unlikely would be an expansion set over the Balkans. Lots of options early ear (Italian - Greek War, German invasion of Yugoslavia and Greece in 1940 - 1941), mid to late war (Operation Tidal Wave and Point Blank, the USAAF and RAF strategic bombing of Bulgaria and Romania in 1943 - 1944) or late war (Soviet drive though the Balkans post September 1944). Lots of great plane sets and maps for either but they are practically unsellable, even for flight simmers who are generally history buffs. I suppose Pacific would come later, after another expansion post BoN, once they've built new features into the engine and optimized the AI. Edited August 26, 2020 by Burdokva
[DBS]Browning Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Spain, Battle of Britain, Finland, Italy, Norway, Reich Defence '44, Berlin '45,...I'll be happy with anything.
josephine Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 I like the slower pace of early war planes, so I loved Finland with Fokkers XXII or Slovakia with Avias 534 in the old IL-2...
Fritz_X Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 What I'd wish for: Italy 1943. What I actually think will be coming next: Eastern Front 1944/45.
cardboard_killer Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 What would be a planeset for a Crimea 43/44 with a Crimea/Sevastopol 41/42? It would be great and touch on two time periods on the same map. Yak-3 I-153 IL-4 P-39N Yak-1 IAR 80/81 Fiat G.50 Fieseler Fi 156 Heinkel He 177(?) Macchi C.200
