The Thursday Night Fly-In

Looks like the European window had a great turnout! Great to see.

 

Was a bit calmer later on and Entente forces were well outnumbered for the evening with strong contingents from JG1 and Jasta5.

I only managed 1 patrol before work intervened, but managed to save an SE5a from Hangman's attentions and then ran into a couple of J5 D7s that were giving an indie Spad a hard time.

 Arriving D7s put an end to the scrap and all 5 planes involved got home despite taking damage. Fustrating and inconclusive, but probably fairly real.

 

Did manage to get back on the server later but most Entente had left. Climbing up to find our 2 remaining 3PG I was met by 4 or 5 high EA in a split formation. The map was saying there were 7 in the area! No good outcomes possible so had to 'reposition'.

Then tracked enemy from the sun but they left the area and couldn't find the 1 or 2 remaining in time available.

 

Entente simply have to get more pilots up. 

 

Also getting tired of always fighting a late, late war scenario. We have the planes, so maps from summer and autumn 1917, winter and spring 1918 would be great. Will put thoughts in a separate post.

It's (Bloody) April, but May is coming and my hope springs eternal.  There's only so much we can bite off at a time.  Many updates usually follow our big events as we implement new features/processes/innovations etc. around ground fire, missions, planesets that were rolled out.

Suggest we don't let the current game issues be a reason not to get online with some mates and have fun.

 

The DM will be modified eventually but meantime having fun is still possible. We just need to adjust expectations and/or flying styles

Salute to everyone who came out. Was an action-packed night with excellent numbers for a solid 9-10 hours.

 

Looks like Central took the earlier Euro map, but the later US window was won by Entente for the first time in ages!

Central didn't seem to have the ground-attack focus of recent weeks but i feel we also fronted up a lot better over the mud and didn't let them get a safe platform for their 2-seaters.

 

Had several great scraps amongst the clouds. It was the Dawn map and it looked amazing with the sun coming flat across from the East and half the cloud in shadow and half bathed in a yellow light. I know the clouds get a lot of grief in this game, but it was fantastic today and very immersive. Kudos to the map-makers. (https://youtu.be/2F9W7ay30fM?t=1606)

 

 

Highlight of our evening was a huge scrap with JG1 who came across in multiple layers using escorted CL2s up high and mid-level and additional roving D7s and Dr1s. With their personalised Jasta skins and the clouds it was a brilliant sight, unfortunately also a dangerous one and we lost at least 2, though accounted for a number of theirs i think.

I know FC has issues, but at times like that you can also see the value of good graphics.

Hi, fun flights yesterday -but not very successfull. We had a problem on the reco a on the "DoulCamb_Noon_Arras1918_200408" mission. Our reco plane made the 5 runs above the objective, we had the message saying we had to go back to base, and while en route, we suddenly had a message that the photos plates were lost, but the plane was flying fine and made it back to the base with engine running...The plane was damaged earlier by a flak hit -but it was before it took the photos.

You must have got hit on the way back or the damage you got on the way caused the glass to break, It's very fragile, 1 bump on landing will break the glass too.

It's best to fly away from any flak area when doing recon or bombing. hard to sneak in when flak gives your position away.

Hum that is strange, because, the reco plane was damaged before he took the photos, and while doing it, all messages appeared correctly. The message saying the plates were lost appeared while on our lines, and we were not flaked on our way back...

That is strange, not sure what to say bud other than maybe the message doesn't come up until you hit your side of the mud. Which if the case then that sucks.

I really don't know how it works, but perhaps it's a simple cross reference that finds if the AC was damaged the plates are damaged. Regardless of when that damage occurred. There may be nothing that can be done about that.

 

 I'll put the question to Matthias, our mission builder, if I get the chance.

Are you sure that your recon lost its plates? You can see the subtitles of all the recons in your coalition. Which means when recon A gets destroyed you will see the subtitles while flying recon B or C as well. You have to read the subtitles carefully. Sometimes they are not for your flight but for another one beeing flown simultaniously. The plates will only get destroyed if your plane is critically damaged. On landing it will happen if you smash you prop against the ground. In flight it will happen if your airplane can not continue flying.

Yes, I am sure the messages were for our reco, several pilots in my flight read it the same way. And the reco plane made a good landing at the base (Soncamp if I remember well) but without effect (it didn't unlock any further objectives). Could it be linked to the server? We had some troubles this night (lag, and some disconnects). Anyway, thanks for these missions! S!

I don't know what happend in that case. But in RoF the server sometimes swallowed trigger commands when the traffic was very high.

This week's session had some great little engagements and scenarios being played out and we saw some solid numbers in US window of 40+ for most  of the main map duration.

 

One highlights was watching a large Bristol formation (6+ i think) taking on a bunch of D7s up at 2500+m, with the odd Spad/Se5a picking off the scraps. I wouldn't have wanted to be one of those D7s!

Earlier my flight of 103rd SPADs had several good standoffs with a couple of very aware D7s near Bapaume. We tried a few different tricks but their SA was good and they never fell for them. S! to those guys.

Another big scrap with 3 CL2s and multiple Pfalz/D7 was fun too. Hunter flaming some Pfalzs and a CL2 breaking apart so quickly it almost fell onto me.

By the way, last night the 20's did all 3 recons on the allied side and neither of the recons registered with a number of passes at different levels, this was the new map that had no names on the recons. We appreciate the new maps but I would recommend doing testing before you add it to the rotation, wasn't even a description of the missions.

Sorry about that. This is not a new mission.   All of them are the prior missions.... unfortunately, it appears that the new patch stripped out all of the mission descripteions.    We wanted to get the server up quickly for everyone to try out the new DM and figured the mission descriptions were not crucial and could be updated shortly.   However, it appears the new patch stripped out all of the text related script including on map rollover text and in mission messages you refer to.  This is one of the privileges of running a server.  One update can come along and break parts or all of your highly evolved mission building!

 

Our team will be working on these fixes. thanks for the feedback alerting us to this additional issue.

Sorry in the meantime to the two seater mission pilots for the interim inconvenience.  Stick with bombing in the meantime.

I wasn't aware of being under obligation to prove anything. 

 

The fact that you don't have evidence, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. 

 

Your forum account shows purchased game content, which while suggestive doesn't prove that the person playing with that content is the same person posting on the forum, nor does it prove that the account is used by only one person.

@US103_Baer its amazing how very little damage will make the aircraft shake.  Shitty bounce on my part having to side slip so aggressively. Didn't want to stick around and get killed again by @US93_Talbot or one of the other guys. Oh well can't do much flying ALONE! HINT HINT JASTA 5.

Yup, I got lucky for sure! When I saw the green tail I knew it had to be you. Caught me day-dreaming a bit and not reformed properly with Patterson or Talbot's flight. 

 

Just moments earlier I'd been thinking you must be up there somewhere and to watch out cos we were low and split up. Your first burst peppered my wings, so hard maneuvers were out, but fortunately the others weren't far away.
