That’s a nice way to look at it.  Perhaps there might be some more aircraft too.  I must admit I would really like my first flight to be in a Dragon Rapide. ?

I used to have an office in the second building you landed on!  Interesting how the parked cars are rendered to almost look like trash on the roof of the first building you landed on.  My home is just to the south west a few miles, and currently about 2,000' to at least 13,000' the fine particulate ash from the northern fires does indeed make that type of poor visibility.  Your flight reminds me of flying in my friend's Maule over LA several years ago.

Just tried a quick flight over LA, and the smoke was thick.

Above 1,500 ' with the plane door or window open you can smell it, too

Yep, DC Designs is pretty active in developing new content for many flight simulators, including MSFS 2020:

Good news is they also carry over some pretty good FSX models and according to their statements, they look and play fine in MSFS 2020 - maybe not as nice as native 2020 models, but reasonably well. For instance, the P-61 Black Widow is said to become available for free!

It's a flying pig to me, fighting any control input and seemingly impossible to trim - the trim feels like it always walks across the whole scale, from one extreme to another.

No such issues with any other plane, just the G36 so far for me.

In contrast, the Robin D400 is flying like on rails.

Yeah I was wondering if that was bushfire smoke. We had it pretty bad here last summer and strong inversion layers were holding it in place over pretty large distances.

Yeah, mo' weather soon! Finally dynamic weather and smooth transitioning.

 

I'm not too much of a fan of "just METAR datda", but it surely is as upgrade from the at times odd atmosphere we get in FS2020. There's lots of secrecy around an Active Sky iteration that would work with FS2020 and Pilot's haven't said anthing about making "FS Global Real Weather" for FS2020. I guess they all will. Question is when.

 

So far, I was fond of Pilot's Global Real weather, as it was the simple and fast way to just download current or historic weather beyond just METAR data.

For me this sim ruined all others.

I am not saying it is best in all things

I believed it had dynamic wether at first, because it sort of corresponded with wether I had when flying close to home. 
Also in my area there is areas with bleaker color some places. It got straight lines, it might be rendering problems. But to me it looks like incomplete map covering from Bing. 
And something weird with planes behavior in wind. 
This will be utter magnificent when properly fixed

New patch is out. I got something from Steam (no idea of size), and the patch itself, from MS, seems to be  15.7 GB. I'll see if I can find full patch notes, though the patch download page seems to suggest it is mostly performance-related. No mention of the issues with the weather, but I suspect these are server-related anyway, so won't be fixed via a patch.

Many streetlights are about 1000 top 5000 ft. too high. Even in photscenery, but it is all over the place. Looks like "Back to the Future".

Flying the IL2 is fun. Flying the Harrier is a riot. But flying over a world... that looks like the world, is just the best and highly addictive. The maps in IL2, and to a lesser extent in DCS, just look like cartoons in comparison to FS20. I understand why, but that does not mean it's not still the case.

 

On the plus side, this puts the onus on IL2 and DCS to bring their map game up a level. And that is a good thing.

Time to fire up the Baron and see if the game is improved or totally broken I guess. At least it should have an "alt" knob now but heaven knows what will happen if I try to use it! 

 

I'm flying the thing back to Texas since I used it to get my little 152 out of a situation in FSEconomy where I ran the poor little thing down to 2 gallons due to navigating around weather and ended up stranded. Someone had flown the Baron all the way up from Texas and left it in Lousville Kentucky so I thought I'd fly the thing back and leave it with a nice full tank for the owner. (Or almost full anyway since you can only fly with the full payload at 75% fuel.)

They won't have to model the weapon systems or weapon displays for the F-15 and F-18 so probably not as complicated as something for DCS would have to be.

Decided to take the DA62 out to take a look at the big swirly thing over southern Alabama. Possibly a mistake, since this involved punching through zero-visibility clouds coming out of Mobile. Found the centre (no hole, or anything dramatic there, though there were interesting things going on nearby). Its getting dark soon, and I now have to find my way down. Mobile seems dodgy - low vis, rain etc. Options may run out soon...

 

I'm headin' off to Baton Rouge, tryin' to avoid the rain,

Feelin' like I shoulda' used my brain,

If I can't get this diesel down, with or without rain,

I'll crash it when I get to New Orleans. ?

 

Edit: Landed safely, in Hammond (KHDC). The cloud had cleared, and the wind (gusty) was straight down the runway. I should get more practice with night flying this thing though, and find out how to dim the Garmin panels.

I haven't made the swirly thing pilgrimage yet but given the number of them happening right now it seems like Mother Nature enjoys having an audience. I tried looking at the big red bridge in San Francisco but it was hiding in fog, could barely see it from the Baron but I was too distracted enjoying the lack of stuttering and playing with my new knob to really notice.

For those out there looking for a joystick you’ll be happy to know the price inflation has slowed down a bit. Still rising but not as fast atm..

 

depending on what you desire it will cost a Benjamin or equivalent of a nvdia 3000 series video card.

 

Joysticks and air filters (here on west coast) items in short supply.

@Ace_Pilto Windy.com shows something fairly dramatic just south of Italy.  Might be worth a look, though you'll have to adjust the time-of-day slider to see it.

 

Sunsets over solid cloud cover look very pretty. Just not when you've got to get under in a hurry, and don't know how low they ceiling is...

I just run it at 1080p since I built my PC for that, knowing that everyone would be switching to 4K it meant I saved a lot of money on hardware that performs well but nobody wants anymore. Originally I had a lot of issues with stuttering and crashing but things have been pretty good since I changed some settings to balance out the CPU/GPU load and the patch has definitely improved performance in big cities for me.

 

Never had any issues with the Baron apart from the missing ALT knob, the mixture not doing anything and the very optimistic flight model for it (it climbs like a rocket, must be the Bob Hoover model). The cowl flaps also seem to be purely decorative but you can at least move the handles and pretend you're doing something useful with them. I did spend a bit of time getting my sensitivity curves about right however it feels reasonable to me. I didn't play around with it much today, just a quick run to see how performance was in a built up areas. The patch was only just released today so far as I know so who knows what the fb people are bitching about. A happy customer is a quiet customer.

@ZachariasX Yeah, I'm in it right now, about 80 nm  ESE of Sicily. trying to find the middle. Which from what I can figure out, I should be able to do be keeping the wind at 90 degrees to my left. Zero visibility at 9,000 ft, and I'm reluctant to go higher (ice, ice, baby...)

 

Edit: Fouund the hole, but it was closed off at the top, so a bit gloomy. There's no cloud at my height to the E, so I'm heading for Crete. Safer than going back to Sicily, and colliding with  Mt Etna in the rain...

I must say much of my good vibes on this sim is due to Honeycomb yoke. 
it is perfect for this sim. 
I get my honeycomb bravo throttle in October. Seeing it has garmin knots and buttons. I was going to switch over to Yoko yoke once currency got better. But I stick with this. I found my 1080 TI to be sufficient so I wont upgrade gpu either

I'm running a pre-historic i7-960. According to CPU Benchmark your CPU is about 9% faster. The rest of my set up is a GTX1060  6GB and 16GB RAM, and a non Windows 10 supporting mobo. I run FS just fine and on High settings at around 22-25FPS in single player, which is fine. It looks great and I'm lov'n it. You can get it for $1 on Xbox Gamepass for PC for a first month trial. I've just bought the Standard edition on Steam now that that month is up and I'm happy that my rig runs in well enough.

 

BTW my GPU is often running at only 50% while the GPU is  maxed out. 

 

I can post some pics if you want some visual representation.

Seems like people with steam install and mods in the community folder are having problems. Also it seems this patch bring in key assignments making your own assignments duplicate

The Community folder can easily become a problem anyway.

I've had 55 Gigs in there lately and had to dump it completely as the game took about an hour to start.
