I was under the impression TrackIr did not work in this sim. By a coincident I had it on   And it not only work it work very well. You can lean forward to front window

Posted

TrackIR support came with the release version AFAIK, didn't support it during the Alpha and Beta.

Got those Saitek Quadrants which are spiking as hell. Nightmare in Il-2 already and maybe the TCA throttles are some good bang for the buck replacement, but I'd need 3 of them to get the same amount of axes. Or 2 plus the trim and flaps things.

The really weird thing is, as I have two of them, I need to run two different profiles to have different mappings. FS keeps mixing those up, I have one profile for the left one, another for the right one. When I get to the action or re-enter the setup menu, all I see is the left one without any profile selected and the right one having taken over the profile for the left one. So basically I discovered you can't have more than one controller of the same type there, which sucks. I mean, it would literally be the same with the TCA things.

I’m middle in a complete overhaul of my FS MS2020 machine so Yesterday I did order one of the best AIO watercooler: the Arctic FreezerII 360, as being tested by Gamersnexus, all to do a greater overclock for my 9700k. But like so many 16gb RAM owners here and wanting for the 32Gb, watch this youtube film. Think it can be interesting if having 16Gb single row high performance RAM.

Hey guys.  I had the game on Xbox game pass but just bought it on Steam.

Where did you guys save it to?  It's trying to save it in my AppData folder which I find it impossible to access, so where is it best to save the game to?

Cheers

I reaally start to like this, I been visiting spots of great importance to me. This is so far the best replicated. I litterary lived in this fjord and mountains in my upbringing, I even found a mates cabin. In this fjord it is still ruins from a German submarin base. Even Tirpitz had a short visit in here

Yeah, it’s really starting to grow on me.  I found the best way to appreciate it was flying locally with live weather.

We’re just getting the tail end of storm Francis here and coping with the wind and particularly wind sheer around local hills is fantastic.  I real eye opener?

Agreed in that.
I consider a new path myself. Get rid of my old panels and throttle.
I was going to get rid of my Honeycomb yoke , but it really shine in this Sim.
Have you gotten your Gpu in working order? I’ll say timing is not in your favor.
All hardware starting to show age.
I too wait and see what 30 series might bring along. Hope things lighten up for you

There are really good fm implemented here. You cannot do things like in other comparable sims. I often get into stalls simply by using older experience.
One really cannot take chances being low in front of a mountain anymore

Nope, didn't get the trusty rusty GTX 970 back to life again.

Timing is bad on one hand but good on the other.

I would have loved to wait for the 3070 (or Ti), but I'm afraid it won't be until November before the first custom designs will become available, and with the upcoming xmas season the prices will probably float on a pretty high level then.

So I've opted for an ASUS GeForce® RTX 2080 SUPER™ Dual Evo V2 OC 8GB which I could grab for €598.22 on ebay (from the electronics retailer "Saturn") brandnew.

The new GPU should arrive on friday.

Only other option would have been the 2080Ti, but I can't get it new for less than a thousand bucks - that's 67% higher price for like 10% more FPS, a bad deal IMHO.

How I really appreciate your sound reasoning, a skill I try to adapt, but failed many times. My 1080 TI will have to do until 30 series go down in price or NOK currency crawl its ass up from the shitpile.
However It do really good with 2020 software, I am not quite sure I am going to upgrade. You will do fine with your fancy 20 series. I do not think you will regret it unless you go VR. But truth be said I find this software to be supersmooth. I think you be fine in VR too.
For my sake, I am no longer waiting for VR implementation. TrackIr got wonderful 6 dof movement

I think we'll be playing on almost the same level now.

1080Ti and 2080 Super are supposed to be almost on par.

Except for your extra 3GB VRAM of course... the main reason why my initial idea was to skip the 2000 series and go straight for a 3070 (/Ti) with 16GB VRAM.

Anyway, time will tell.

If the bugs bite me after xmas season, maybe I'll sell the 2080 super and grab me a fresh 3000 series GPU then.

Or maybe I don't.

It all depends on how well the card deals with FS 2020 until then.

I can get FS2020 looking good and running well on a 2060 Super with a few fast tweaks. Guaranteed your new card is going to be great.

This time last year I went from a 970 to a 2070 on the reasoning that it's always better to upgrade by two stages to get an appreciable difference.  I think you'll be delighted with the performance improvement with your new card.

One thing is for sure; this winter I'll have to turn the heating down in the room where my pc lives as FS2020 is roasting my cpu!

I'm quite sure I'll be pleased with the 2080S.

If nothing else, at least it'll beat the stand-in G210 card that took the place of my old GTX 970 in the meantime.

I haven’t noticed any struggle. Does that happen over dense areas. Because I have only flown over small cities and towns

MY issue isn't the CPU running hot (or at least, not hotter than it usually does) , it's the deafening roar as the GPU fan kicks into full afterburner mode.

Just done  a quick trip around north Wales. It looks magnificent, though I should have probably checked first, before selecting live weather.  The wind has dropped, but low cloud made trying to look at Cader Idris tricky, and Snowdon out of the question.

Cadair Idris and Tal-y-llyn.

Anglesey and RAF Valley.
Desktop-Screenshot-2020-08-26-12-22-16-7

Climbing above the cloud wan't particularly wise, since looking for a hole to go back down through over a mountain range can sometimes lead to unpleasant surprises. I took the safe option, and did it by the coast.
Desktop-Screenshot-2020-08-26-12-37-25-2

This was my first flight in the X Cub. The glass cockpit seems like overkill to me, though the autopilot will be useful for long trips. And a mental note to myself: short-field landings work best if you use full flap. ?

Actually there's a reason I recommend buying that certain one - it's still the best stick in the world hooves down. And since no manufacturer cares for FFB at all, this is the reason we all really need to kick VKB's, VPC's, TM's and others posteriors really hard until they start building FFB devices. If you've ever flown Il-2, RoF, GB or DCS with FFB, you simply can't use anything without, no matter how great it otherwise might be. It's crap because it lacks the most important feature. This is like having to step back from VR and throw away the rudder pedals at the same time...

AFAIK the 3070s won't be having anymore than 8GB. Hamstrung still. Was like "WTF?" already when I first saw the mem specs of the 20s and they didn't get very far from there as it appears. 3080s will be limited to 10GB, IIRC the Tis will have 12GB (wow, ONE whopping GB more than a 1080Ti!) and 3090 will come in variants of 12, 16 and 24GB. Maybe my information is dated, but I just looked it up and found exactly those (sans the 3080Ti) on an article that's just 3 days old.

As much as I understand the importance of FFB (and don't understand why nobody puts it into some niche products), as little does it make me want to buy ancient used stuff.

I bought me one of those just for FS2020. Even if it only gives me 1% faster load times, I want that 1%!

I bought a different brand, but it was reviewed as being right next to the Samsung in performance for significantly less cash.

Well, seeing it was a nice evening, I've just flown over my house in SW London, and can confirm the MSFS got the multi-layer cloud cover about right, and the wind seemed to agree with what the Met Office reported. A rather pretty sunset, though getting a bit dark for VFR landings. MSFS actually models the refraction effects you sometimes see that distort the sun low on the horizon, though you can't really see it in this screenshot.

Desktop-Screenshot-2020-08-26-19-45-05-9

As for the storms in the southern US, I think I'll check that out next: it'll be about midday there. Maybe not in the X Cub though.

Well, New Orleans in in the circle. the arrows show locations with radar detect rotation (potential tornadoes). Those connect the dots show where weather is predicted to be in 20, 40, and 60 minutes from now.

Posted (edited)

Well, I'm currently over the Gulf of Mexico, east south east of Houston. Not where I intended to be, because there is a monstrous storm in the way. Perhaps fortunately, MSFS doesn't seem to be modelling the wind (an intermittent bug with live weather apparently). No chance of climbing above it (I took the X Cub, because at least I know how to fly the thing), and for the moment I'm in accidental IMC haven't-a-clue mode, trusting the autopilot. I should probably head down, and find somewhere to land...

After-flight edit:

And so ends my trip from La Porte Municipal Airport, Texas to, um, er, La Porte Municipal Airport, Texas. Not New Orleans, which I'd intended to head for, but wisdom finally overcame foolishness when I realised that there was a possibility that the wind-bug might sort itself out, and blow me who knows where. On the plus side, I got some nice screenshots.

It was about here I began to have my doubts.

Desktop-Screenshot-2020-08-26-21-51-21-1

Trying to find a way around. I've not included screenshots of the inside of the clouds I failed to avoid flying into, since you'll already know what grey nothingness looks like.
Desktop-Screenshot-2020-08-26-22-03-15-8

Heading south, out of it.
Desktop-Screenshot-2020-08-26-22-31-13-9

Got to see a rainbow on the way back. I'd seen another one earlier, but trying to get an external screenshot resulted in the autopilot doing strange things.
Desktop-Screenshot-2020-08-26-22-54-30-7

I'll need to learn to fly something with a bit more grunt before I look at another storm - hopefully next time the wind will be working.

Didn’t seem like much wind turbulence when I took off and flew over friends house. I have setup hurricane like weather in a free flight and got tossed around by wind gusts.

Didn’t know that there might be a bug in live weather. I still haven’t gotten around to playing with the drone camera yet. Be interesting to see how the water/waves get simulated.

I think the Port Charles area is going to get hit hard. Been to the casino there. Feel bad for everyone in affected area. Seen reports the storm surge could affect 30 miles inland. That just sounds insane.
