AtomicP Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 I used SYN_Vander's coop mission generator to cook up a quick coop mission to host via the main game (not Dserver) but for some reason when my friend joins and spawns in, it's as if we're in two different servers. In his case he's on the same airfield but there are no other aircraft. In my case, all aircraft except his are present. No error messages except for the server overloaded one that appears frequently. I have the required ports open on my router and there are no problems seeing the server or connection and I resaved the mission in the ME. The map is Stalingrad, which we both have access too, although I don't think this matters on MP. Since we both spawn in the planes I don't think this is an issue (109 F-4 just in case). Any ideas would be much appreciated! I have also posted this in the mission generator tool thread and will report back here if I learn anything. Cheers
ALA13_Yren Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 (edited) Wellcome to my too-long-happen problem hosting coops missions!!! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one man on earth to suffer this problem... I've tried all I can think... reinstalll, try stand alone, try steam, upgrade my router bios, stop all services and antiviruses and many many other things but still no success... 1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 (edited) Yes , i have the same problem, @Jason_Williams was trying to test and help us but finally it did not happen. I will try to ask him again. BTW what was yours setup ? I have win10 and two routers between my PC and WAN. Edited May 6, 2019 by 307_Tomcat 1
AtomicP Posted May 6, 2019 Author Posted May 6, 2019 (edited) @307_Tomcat I'm on Win 10 64-bit, one router (FritzBox 3490) with the required ports open. I have no bother joining any other MP games and like I said I can host and the game starts, but my friend appears as though he is in a different server in that he can't see me or the other aircraft. It's repeatable too. I'm trying a few different combinations of things, firstly by reinstalling the game, which I haven't done since I bought it. I'll update with any findings. Edit: My internet is ~30 Mbps down and ~10 Mbps up so should be fine for hosting one other person I think. Certainly I don't have any issues doing the same thing in DCS. Edited May 6, 2019 by AtomicP
ALA13_Yren Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 I'm on Win10 64bit. Actually don't remember my Router model but think is Router Mitrastar HGW-2501GN-R2. Bios has been upgraded to last. My internet is 300mb simmetrical. All ports opened and I was hosting coops w/o any problem till December 2017. In year 2018 I've been unable to host any coop due to the issue. I'm able to join any coop with any mate or any server but unable to hosts in my pc, dserver or game itself. I'm able to host DCS, IL2 46, Arma 3...
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 (edited) @AtomicP @PA_Yren Guys what about ROF can you host without problem ? BTW all in common is win10 64bit... Edited May 7, 2019 by 307_Tomcat
AtomicP Posted May 8, 2019 Author Posted May 8, 2019 @307_Tomcat I don't have ROF but I actually got the problem sorted. I reinstalled BoX from scratch. I use the non-Steam version if that matters. In the Easy Mission Generator I reduced the number of AI flights although this may not be an issue. So reinstalling may help, although I'm sure many of you have tried this already. As I said, my problem wasn't that I couldn't set up a game (i.e., ports are fine etc.) but that there was a glitch where I couldn't see my friend and vice versa, in-game. I'll test with higher numbers of AI flights and see if the problem crops up again. Thanks for everyone's input and sorry I can't offer an exact solution!
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 I had same problem , peers can connect , use chat to communicate but their aircrafts where invisible to me and others. BTW Rise of Flight is free to play (only 3 aeroplanes are available ) - so you need to use mission with at last one of them ,which is easy to find.
AtomicP Posted May 9, 2019 Author Posted May 9, 2019 One thing I have changed, apart from reinstalling the game is removing the radio voices mod I had in the previous installation. No idea if that made any difference specifically, but perhaps worth ruling out if you have any mods installed. I guess there could be problems if the host and client game files differ but there's no specific error messages. Other than that, all works well apart from the annoying 'server overload' messages. Since peak core load is 60-70% I'm not sure what this warning means in practice. Good luck fixing your issue.
IIIMuerteIII Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 I am sorry for digging up this quite old topic but I just couldn't find much about it. I have the exact same problem. My friends an I can join the created server without a problem but we don't see each other on the runway. It's like we are on different servers. Did nobody find a proper solution for this issue yet? Did @Jason_Williams respond to it somewhere?

Did nobody find a proper solution for this issue yet? Did @Jason_Williams respond to it somewhere? I think removing the radio mod did the trick for me. It might be possible that if both host and clients are running the same mods there will be no problem but it's worth checking anyway. Double-check ports are open and firewall is clear, all the usual stuff. Apart from that, there's nothing obvious to pin down unfortunately. I haven't played co-op for a good while, probably before version 4 came out so things may have been fixed/broken in a different way. Good luck!
Xaos Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 (edited) I am also having this problem when I host I cant see my friends planes, but if they host the exact same mission that they downloaded when connecting to me we can see each other. Ports are forwarded. and I even tried to uninstall and reinstall the game. Have no mods installed. Edited April 12, 2020 by Xaos
coconut Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 (edited) When people say "ports are forwarded" really make 1000% sure that UDP ports are forwarded as well. In my experience, failure to forward UDP ports properly on the server wherea TCP ports are forwarded will results in this kind of problem. I have personally experienced that problem with DServer running from my own network with a router with a buggy firmware. Everything was set up properly, and it worked with most people, but not with some. Problem disappeared after I upgraded the router's firmware. From the top of my head, here are some the things that could play a role: Bugs in the configuration of the router. One of my friends had used the range syntax to specify the open ports, i.e. "12800-12810" instead of individual sports. This format was supported by the router, supposedly. In practice it was not, it just failed silently. Firewall settings in windows. There are many ways to specify exclusions, and some don't work. Same here, supposed to work, doesn't and fail silently. The way that failed for me was to specify an exclusion per-application (in this case it was an application I had written, but the same might apply to the game itself). I had to specify the exclusion regardless of the application instead. Firewall settings in windows, public VS private. At some point my windows 10 decided that my home network wasn't a private one, but a public one (i.e. open coffee-shop style). It changed without telling me, and as firewall settings are typically coupled to the "publicness" of my network, it could have led to problems. Blocking set by your ISP. Sometimes ISPs close certain ports, and the chances of them informing you aren't high. Try another port, but of course, if your ISP thinks the only thing that needs to work is Netflix and Youtube, you are out of luck. UDP by its very nature is a protocol that is lossy. Any overloaded node in the route is free to drop UDP packets whenever it thinks it has fallen behind and needs to catch up. In this regard, it might be important to set the bandwidth limits in the game properly. Too high and your server may try to push more UDP packets than some node in the routes to each client can support, and they will be dropped silently. And that's just the ones I could think of. I'm sure there are more things that could fail. The radio calls don't strike me as likely candidates, but who knows... Edited April 12, 2020 by coconut 1
