Discussion of Bodenplatte, Flying Circus and Tank Crew Announcement...

Recommended Posts

I'm actually curious about this flying circus... will it be a paid dlc for il2 (do I have to buy all my planes again) or do my existing aircraft transfer over?

All in all, the new planned theater is way unexpected and now I know what I'm pretty ordering for christmas...

Damn, I'm gonna need a new rig...

I already have ROF too, so its an interesting question about already bought content.

Would be happy to pay for the updates to the programme.

However I will hang fire on flying circus because of this.

Boddenplatte already preordered though  can't wait .

Anyway, about the tank sim, can we maybe get a teaser in the form of a tank campaign in Il-2? Just to see what the tanks are currently able to do?

Well, I'm here because I'm heavy disappointed with "another games about tanks".

But the answer on your question is quite simple: it will look like at a BOK: enter enemy area, destroy critical targets inside or capture point (fuel / ammo depot, bridge).

But... BOK offers playable tanks. Is there any multiplayer ground battles?

There is no YT sources with it...

The only modern, supported armored combat vehicle simulator in development you mean?

This is going to be closer to Graviteam's Steel Fury than it is World of Tanks.

I'm not really an armor guy but I'll certainly buy in when the pre-order gets announced.

You know, the Tank Crew may be very interesting idea here, especially with cooperation of all IL-2 games here.

I know a lot of players hates tanks, but from second side a lot of people hates sim-flight simulators (like me).

I'm gonna to wait for exciting multiplayer combined battles for both group of players to play together:

  • tank forces to hold the ground (for tank-sim fans),
  • air support to play as fighters to air cover and bombers as tank destroyers (for flight-sim fans)

:yahoo:

personally, ROF or tanks = not interested.

I'd rather see increasing immersion in BoX: more mission types or tasks, weather effects, ground servicing (reloading/fueling), load outs, more ww2 coverage (1939-145), Africa, pacific, china, aircraft condition over career lifetime, multiplayer, score balancing...

But having said that, I love the game and tossed my donation into the kitty.

BoX = Battle of X, where we mean the whole series.

It is probably time to start up a topic in the FM section about WW1 aircraft - as Z pointed out earlier, many early WW1 types had very strange handling characteristics since the basics of aerodynamics were being discovered at the time, so expectations based on modern tail-draggers  can sometimes be misleading.

No point in going onto it in detail here, but it does deserve a discussion eventually.  Veterans who have seen it all before do not need to read it, but should remember that there are many newcomers to the BoX series who get interested in FC (one hopes), who may not have been immersed in RoF lore and have legitimate questions to ask.

Pro tip:  ;)

Generally starting with a question like "There is a lot more adverse yaw than I expected - is this in the FMs or my control set up? Were WW1 planes really like that?"  will get far fewer rude responses and occasionally highly detailed and informative ones than just saying "RoF FMs are rubbish".

Thanks unreasonable... that's what I meant to say earlier, but based on the flak I took I guess I could have worded it better... but I'm a long time fan of the IL series right back to the Oleg Maddox days... the only downsides I see IMHO in the BoS BoM BoK series are in the campaigns it seems to me the flying time to engage enemies is too long, sometimes in a mission, it's like I'm sitting at my computer flying along for 1/2 an hour before I see action. The other thing I see is in quick missions, it seems the enemy does more running away than fighting... I'm talking about single player.....

I like the long slow build up to action, with the steadily increasing tension... foreplay.   Followed by me getting shot down in a few seconds.   :(

Sometimes in RoF Career I could fly a 45 minute patrol and never see any action at all. With icons off. Turn them on in the track playback and see that I simply did not notice what was there on my screen. But then I am retired and have the time.

What BoX lacks, unfortunately for those that do not have the time, is a good QMB that can generate a simple mission of the intercept/ground attack/dogfight variety which are reasonably life-like but quick to get into. At the moment, it is more like a simple trainer for the basics.  Both RoF and IL-2 1046 were better in this respect.

I hope that this can be rectified before too long. All of the titles in the BoX series need an improved QMB.

This might interest you (and others) I did find and use Pat Wilson's Campaign Generator (PWCG BoS) for making your own missions that helps make things more interesting in single player. Give it a try. http://www.pwcampaignmanager.com/pwcgbos/web/PWCGBoS.php  Once downloaded, just put the PWCG folder into your BoS folder then run the exe file

IIRC Red Baron 2 had a unique quick mission builder. You selected the airports, type or airplanes, time of departure and just clicked away the waypoints on the map (you could choose altitude and all). I remember that a double click split / added a waypoint and so on. It was very simple and intuitive, yet it offered many routs to take. It was just brilliant. Those guys did a great job in a time when computers were not near what we have today. With the time of departure feature, you could for example build a route for bombers and escort them while enemy aircraft would take off along the way to intercept. And you had the whole map and squadrons to do that. IIRC, with the several squadrons available on each side, you could build in no time a complex mission with more than 100 aircraft I'm pretty sure.

That mission builder was hysterical and very addictive. Together with the AI, which chased you to the death in ace mode, it was a lot of fun.

When I played ROF for the first time and saw the barebones QMB and the moronic AI, the message in some missions saying that an aircraft would appear every time you shot down the previous one, I was so bummed out that I never played it. The game stayed mostly shelved, sometimes deleted, from 2010 to 2013 when I started playing multiplayer.

Today I'm a multiplayer enthusiast, but I would like to see a QMB like the one we had in Red Baron.

This isn't too bad for a mission builder.. there's no instructions, but it's fairly simple once you navigate around a bit... The only confusion is when you build the mission you'll see a page with a stack of windows, "Name" "Map" etc etc..they are all greyed out except the top window "Name" which is the name you give you mission, but the windows below stayed greyed out after I put my mission name in the box... I finally figured out that below all the windows at the bottom of the page there's a button that says "Next Step" you have to click that between each window to get the next window to open. Once you're all done, when you open your game , you'll find your created mission in the "Missions" tab.

I own everything in ROF just short of the Muromets and I’m happy to pay for all of it again to see it ported to IL-2: Great Battles.

In an attempt to maybe restore a tiny bit of decorum...

Flying Circus is very exciting in my mind. I got into Rise of Flight late but I really liked it for what it is. Bringing it together and inline with the extra years of development that IL-2 offers for graphics and performance are pretty darn exciting. It's REALLY early at this point and arguing over what might be is only fun when its civil. Jason said a couple of times that this is the first time they've announced products this early into the development but obviously it was important to let us know where things were heading. IL-2: Battle of Kuban was already underway when they announced it... so this is a little different.

I'd wait and see for Flying Circus if you're really not that certain about it. It's going to be interesting but its not even on offer for a pre-order/early access yet so let's wait and see. At the very least the team will do what they say but sometimes they like to surprise us with added cool things.

I like planes and video games. Let's talk about that in a plane game discussion thread.  ;)

Well, maybe not so much planes but the possibility of infantry units coming with Tank Crew. I think that could add another dimension to the game. I'm not saying make infantry controllable, they should for sure be AI only, but I would like to see them included in campaigns like TAW, or Random Expert. It'd be a pretty cool addition to be able to not only strafe trucks, guns, and tanks, but also infantry. Forcing them to scatter or slow an advance through a city. Maybe the Ju52's paratroopers could finally see more use aside from glorified bombs.

Also, P-47s, and P-38s very very frightning ME! GALILEO galileo GALILEO galileo

Because of the insults, bitching, crudeness and off-topic nonsense the thread is closed for now.
