This would be of great help to me, to be able to determine friend from foe in dogfights when no icons to identify them are available, as in full real.

Will these same setting/config mods work with the Rift S?

I have 2 friends that fly il2 with the rift cv1, their fps are always better than mine, but we all have same trouble in full real or expert mode hoping to not shoot a friendly by mistake but if we wait until close enough to tell for sure we have been killed already.

Thanks for any info!

So, i am not entirely sure wich is the right file. So i zipped my user settings folder.
Just take what you need.
Please be aware that i didnt optimize the goggles since i dont use them.
My IPD is 70,5 soif yours is close this setting should kinda work with the valve index.

EDIT: Deleted the archive since they for some reason dont work. I dont want to waste anyones time trying out these files. So as soon as i know which files to actually provide i will do so. Sorry to anyone that lost time tring this.
And sorry Clyde. Thsi was not meant as a reply to your request. I cant help you with your settings because i dont own a CV1.

Should be same, but you’ll likely have to tailor it to yourself. Identification is hard, and harder with VR.  It sucks at first but you’ll pick up subtle queues in each plane to be able to know from long distance.  I first go by speak/slender’ness to see if it’s a 109 or Allied.  Then I look at wingtips to see if it’s a 190.

general rule: if it looks stout or bulbous, it’s an allied aircraft.  Sleek and sexy, usually Axis.  Rule applies to all but 110 and pe2, differences are much less there.

@SCG_redcloud111 I had them updated to 14.1 right away, I keep the first post uptodate and only sometimes look into the end of the thread.

@Gerifonte If you copy&paste variables in yourself as suggested, you must have the game off, insert them, save, and upon launch save them into the d3dx_user.ini as well by pressing F12 when the red prompt appears. You can also simply download my prepared mod from post 1, and on the red prompt press F12, as it has Winger's values.

@Clyde The first post had a Rift S mod package with Winger's values.

@Winger I have had several reports now that your values don't work.

Your last reply was:

" So, i am not entirely sure wich is the right file. So i zipped my user settings folder.

...to a guy asking for RiftCV1 values... Are you certain you know what you're doing? Index has canted displays and parallel projection on by default, it's a totallry different device than both RiftCV1 and RiftS. I will have a RiftS here in the afternoon and will check and, in case they really don't work, redo the values myself. I will then post an update here as well for you guys ?

@SCG_Fenris_Wolf:  Sorry, my reply was not meant for the guy that asked for CV1 values. I should have specified. It was merely an update on my promise to post my Valve Index setting.
Wich file exactly do i have to save? Because for me my setting work great using the valve index.

To be faster when adopting my own zoom values, I made a new profil in Joy2key, with these keys:

joystick key 1: binded together Home and L.shift

joystick key 2: binded together Insert and L.shift

joystick key 3: binded together (low zoom key, I forgot which one)? and L.shift

joystick pow right: key Pg.Down (repeated 40x/sec when pressed)

joystick pow left: key End (repeated 40x/sec when pressed)

With that I need 3 minutes to set my zoom.

First I change Joy2key profile to this one, then start fast mission in IL-2 (DO NOT TRY IT IN HANGAR, IT DOES NOT WORK THERE), set yourself 2km in air and pause game.

Then press joystick key 1, and you will see double. While holding that key, press and hold joystick pow right, or left, until your vision is finally correct (no double vision, or no cross vision)

Then do same with joystick key 2, and then 3.

When done, do not forget to press F12, to save your values.

Change your Joy2key profil to IL-2 gaming and you are ready to play.

Later, your values are saved to  ...bin/game/"d3dx_user.ini"

Copy them into this file:  ...bin/game/user_settings/user_keymapping_zoom.ini.

The 3 important lines are:

global persist $zoomXoffsetLow = 0.217999846
global persist $zoomXoffsetMed = 1.70450997
global persist $zoomXoffsetHigh = 3.87649131

That is it ;)

Ah okay, sorry as well then for my assumption. Very well, the files you can save are the ../bin/game/user_settings/user_keymapping_zoom.ini and ../bin/game/d3dx_user.ini

If both have been adjusted properly and are the same, then the prompt doesn't appear. In any other case, the former needs to feed the latter with values first.

OK, I didnt edit any files by hand. All just via the shortcuts.
Ill pack the two files today and repost them. Hope it helps someone then.

=BES=Savage-6 -  Thank you for the tips! Makes good sense to me!  Back in the day when I flew with the GR142 Squad, I dont recall having difficulty in identifying friend from foe,  but that was quite a few years ago and definately not in VR.

Few things bother me more (in gaming at least) is opening fire on a plane then seeing the warning "Clyde has fired on a friendly!"

After that happened, I've tried to get much closer but am usually shredded before I can ID friend or foe lol.

I think too that alot has changed in the newer VR enabled program, because inthe past everything was easier,  have a landing gear shot off, no problem we could land on the good wheel and float it all the way until lift gave out on that wing and it came down.

Now, everything in VR was much more challenging including landings, and especially take off's with planes that want to spin like a top, even after locking the tail wheel.  But I feel it's more realistic!

Thanks again for your reply and advice =BES=Savage-6!!!

i think your anger of Steam is a bit misplaced and try to remember they are people too with all the faults that entails.

But regardless of that, I really recommend VR if your PC is up to it and funds permit.

Track IR *is* good, but for my money VR is the way forward.

I have a Samsung Odyssey + WMR, and it runs off the Steam VR engine, and personally, I don't have a problem with Steam. My Odyssey runs like a dream on IL2 GB, literally no screen door to speak of, and I'm getting 40-50 fps on my lowly I7-3770, the scenery looks a bit misty but the cockpits are crystal clear. Rifts and Vives here in Canada are $600-700, but I've seen Odysseys going for $299. I missed that sale, still got mine for $399 CDN.

You can use OpenComposit to bypass Steam. I don't have a Rift so don't know the details of implementation but I have read that it improves performance.

In other games a little, but in this one, performance improvements are huge for me with OpenComposite

You, as a pilot, are often inundated with a metric ton of available information that can help you confirm from longer distances.  I suggest tapping into a series of internal questions when you spot “something”.  For example:

Are the over a friendly or enemy target? Their behavior over such an area is a good clue (which is why I HATE when a pe2 flies home at treetop level right over our own objective.  I immediately think it’s a 110 on a bomb run!) The best behavioral clue I see is attention.  Where is attention being paid in that other plane? Do you see them in lazy orbits over their objective? They’re looking for bombers to bounce below.  Are they rocking wings or changing direction? Likely searching skies for other fighters and might be a friendly escorting a bomber into that same target.

Are they over 5km in altitude? 90% of the time it’s a 109, especially in earlier plane sets.

In BoBp maps, is it trailing thick exhaust? 190 100%

TL:DR:  Use contextual information before you can identify the target to form a conclusion.  Then while you move in, confirm your conclusion using your ID techniques.  You should ID as a confirmation, not as the full assessment.

Does anyone have a normal viewing angle setting for PIMAX 5K+?

The first post has the convergences dialed in for the mod's zoom on normal FOV in the Pimax5k+. There is a download link in it.

@ SCG_Fenris_Wolf非常抱歉,可能無法翻譯,我的意思是三個放大校準適度視角

2080ti缺乏性能,中等視野的穩定性足夠大視野的穩定性

我不得不用

$ zoomXoffsetLow = 0.217999846

$  zoomXoffsetMed = 1.70450997
$ zoomXoffsetHigh =  3.87649131

現在想知道數據medium Vision

很好,我的朋友。我使用中等視力。這些值是針對中等視覺的。不大。
2080ti出汗很多,Pimax高強度運動。

您需要大視野融合嗎?

不,這是我在大視野中使用的數據

Normal field of vision Use can cause cross-eyed

Sorry to bring this up again, but could anyone point me in the direction on how to modify the sight to where it shows up in both eyes by default rather than right? I know it's in user_settings.ini. I tried setting "y2 = 0.0" thinking that would set it to both. It still only shows up in the right eye.

If you install from the mod files provided by me specific to a headset, the crosshair is normal there - like the devs intended ?

You do not need steamVR anymore with Pitool beta.

De activate the automatic launch of steamVR in steamVR settings, close steamVR, launch Pitool, launch IL2 => no steamVR process and VR OK. SteamVR layer is emulated by Pitool, image computation are done by pitool. It looks like only steamVR SuperSampling is used to computed target resolution.

It's up to you for SmartSmoothing, a bit smoother but some artifacts. I prefer to be at native fps  (that are ok for my rig) without SS.

Hi Lefuneste.

First thing is a BIG THANKS to you for your great Job doing this sim enjoyable in VR.

The Q: Is it possible to play IL-2 in PiMax with Steam not installed?

I ask because I have deactivated launch SteamVR and it worked, then I unistalled Steam and it doesn´t work anymore.

Thnks.

You can not uninstall steamVR, because it is launched by Pitool when you change some options and, even if Pitool is emulating it, I think that at least some config files included in the distribution are needed.

If the values have been made with narrow IPD, and you have a wide IPD, this might happen. To fine-tune:

Go into QM, airstart, pause game. Look at a far building.

Hold the zoom button of the affected zoom, keep it held.

Press Shift+End repeatedly (really, a hundred times, the steps are tiny) to converge the zoom. Or Shift+PageDown to diverge.

When it is better, let go of the zoom, then press F12 (to save the setting you have just found).

thaks @SCG_Fenris with the tips here I got my 5x and 10x zoom working awesome in my rift CV1.  Had to fiddle with the IPD a bit but did not take too long.

Is there a way to view 180* opposite in VR without moving my head?    Had to get  a rub down after all the flying today from craning my neck trying to check my 6 often.
