216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Busy evening for the P-39s! Our first mission didn't go to plan - I made a massive error of judgement and put me, my wingman and by association the flight in a bad situation. This mistake was amplified by the low light conditions, and in the end only two of the five P-39s returned to base safely. After being heavily damaged by a Bf-109G-6, I thought it was the end for me but my trusty #5 did the impossible and maintained level flight despite only having working rudder controls! I bailed out safely over friendly territory thanks to that, and into the briefing room we went. The second mission was tense but uneventful. Besides the sighting of a mysterious pair of light aircraft diving through a cloud in the distance, we had no interactions with enemy aircraft, and after 40 minutes of flying our Cobras were delivered at Krasnodar without fanfare. The only action seen during this mission wasn't related to us - while overflying Severskaya, I glanced down to see a pair of Normandie-Niemen fighters and an Il-2 over the airfield. The cannons of the Ilyushin opened up, explosions were seen at the enemy positions, and everything was looking good. Sadly, only moments later we saw how anti-aircraft fire caught up to the attacker and set it on fire. The smoking Il-2 tumbled over to one side, and engraved itself forever into the Russian steppe. The radio transmission from NN confirmed the ordeal - "Eskimo is down, Eskimo is down." As we found out later, this sacrifice was not in vain thanks to Cat's effort to finish what Eskimo had started. The third and last mission took me, Nocke and Jizzo across the map. While priming a drop zone for incoming bombers, 1.JaVA's strike group reported they had encountered a formation of He-111s complete with fighter escort heading towards our lines. This was 40km away, and initially we decided to stick to our main mission. Minutes later, the same group was reported again, this time 35km away. After evaluating the situation, we figured we could meet the bad guys over the target, and plotted an intercept course accordingly. Lo and behold, shortly after we reached our estimated point the formation was spotted at close range! With little time to react, I naïvely swerved my #5 towards it, and ended up right in the middle of the formation. The defensive fire rattled my aircraft, my ears started ringing and my vision blurry, with a big He-111 right ahead of me. I pulled the trigger and gave it what I had, even if my engine at this point had quit on me. I spent all my 37mm ammunition before my aircraft started begging for some thicker air - dead-stick at 6000m is not exactly a piece of cake. On the way down I assessed the damage, only to find one horizontal stabiliser had been ripped off, the elevator trim had stopped working, the rudder was working funny and the aircraft was rocking from side to side whenever I pressed either pedals. Nonetheless, it bravely glided all the way down, and was caught in a treeline after I underestimated my speed while aiming for a clearing. Alive, if shaken, I rode the ambulance back to the division's headquarters... 5 2

56RAF_Pod Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 (edited) This was my first mission as a bomber pilot. During the take off of the first sortie I was promised sweaty palms and a sore butt and sure I got both. First sortie [DBS]T}{OR led us to the target in two flight of three and since it was quite a long flight I had time enough to practice formation flight. I needed that. Over the target the formation was still quite tight (at least for me) and we dropped the bombs on T}{OR's call. It was a great feeling to drop them so close to each other. We turned home. But before long we met some 109s with the above result. Unfortunately Marta got killed, so we only had 5 pilots left. I parachuted out of my A20 looking back and saw a scene more appropriate for an airborne landing than a bomber run.... parachutes everywhere. Second sortie we went in one flight and again I had to concentrate very hard to stay in formation. It was decided to drop bombs on the same target and again we dropped them in close formation. This time the 109s were not there, so we all returned home safely. Even the landing was very coordinated. Thanks DBS and Cathaoir for helping me learn how to fly the A20 in formation! Chief_Mouser Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 How did the A-20s come to be without cover? There was nothing else to escort. 1
Memphis Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Since I deleted my screens by accidents, I just have a short story to share. Being outnumbered by 2:1 was fairly hard for the Axis this time, so our tactics as 110s were to fulfill our main mission and then group up with the 111s to form a big box of annoying firepower for the enemy. For the first two sorties, Asgar and me were protected by Schuck and Smurf (thanks to both of you <3) and we were trying to bomb some warehouses in 1330. Our first attempt had one bomb slipping off a roof of one of the warehouses, while we were being engaged by P39s. So we slammed our throttle forward, dropped the remaining bombs and tried to escape south while telling Schuck and Smurf of our red foes. As we good the confirmation that they saw and engaged them, we didn't want them to go 2v5, so we turned around to bring some heavy weapons into the fight. I saw a P39 climbing a bit too high, maybe 70m above my alt, while Asgar was going for the fighters in the back. I kept the fighter in my gunsight and followed his movements, while he was approaching me on my 12, trying to dive to my low 3. I pulled the trigger to get at least a wing damaged and as I tried to search for a second target, I realized I just put some 20mms into TIPs head Asgar was shot down but in the end it was a 4:1 trade. We obliterated the enemies with 2x 110s and 2x 109s. After I returned to base with a fuel leak and got a new 110, we decided to go for the last warehouse. Unfortunately someone wanted us not to, so in the end we ran into what seemed to be 4-6 enemy aircraft and were torn to pieces. In our third sortie, Griphos was with us, so that made 3x 110s. We grouped up with the 111s and provided some long range fighter escort. In about 1520 - or something close to that - we were intercepted by P39 we didn't see coming. Luckily the 111s gave them some beating, until Asgar came in and cleared them almost on his own. With 2x 111 left we reached Tuapse and flew home afterwards It was a great evening, thank you all! See you next week! 3 2

VVS is ready for some serious level bombing sorties. 6 hours ago, II/JG11ATLAN said: (by the way tip as promised we meet again) till next time That you did. Unfortunate that the escort hand-off was fumbled so to speak. We were charging hard to provide egress coverage from Krimskaya when the two planes as Lucas mentioned above in his AAR fouled up the plan. I guess we found the answer whether the A-20s defensive armament is any match for the 109G-6. 2 hours ago, 6./ZG26_Memphis said: Our first attempt had one bomb slipping off a roof of one of the warehouses, while we were being engaged by P39s. Excellent! This, and the AAR picture that I just viewed on the 2 bombing attacks on Tuapse from happy_meal makes me very satisfied to hear. As basically having to go in and change the Durability Values for just about every target we have here on FNBFs due to the new update. Finding a sweet spot between difficulty, do ability with a bit of randomness thrown in is the key . How many times have we read reports of such things. Bombs careening off of things due to drop angles, duds etc... Thumbs Up! 1

216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Faucon, anyone can join On Mondays, sometimes Tuesdays, the great chap we call Tip will make a post announcing a new mission. It'll contain a date, weather conditions, time of the day and the list of aircraft available for both sides. From the start, all aircraft are open, so any person (squadron or individual) can make a post claiming said aircraft for that mission. After that, all you have to do is show up some five minutes before the mission starts (Friday, 20:55 in France), discuss the plan with other people, join the server once it's up, then go to your channel and have fun!
NN_Fahrenheit Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Ah ! Another french squad in ! You should follow this topic to know when a new message is posted, so that you can book aircrafts before they're all taken. We can meet on your TS (or NN) this week if you want.

Players should use this time to spawn in and taxi to runway. ***Player controlled Tanks are excluded from this 12 Minute Hold. See #11. 2a) Following this 12 minute hold. A visible HUD Message with the phrase "Launch Aircraft!" will appear for 1 Minute. 3) *A 40 Minute "Mulligan" is now in effect. Players who die within the first 40 minutes (excluding Hold time) of the mission are allowed to respawn into available aircraft. 4) HUD Messages usually showup for met Objectives. Make sure to destroy briefed targets or MAP Icon designated targets. 5) Players need to land before Mission end or be counted as destroyed. *Vehicles, Infrastructure and Aircraft which were destroyed during this sortie will be reinstated. 6) Each Airfield has additional aircraft added to allow for #2 and #3 above. 7) No Intentional Team Killing, Chute Attacks or Base Camping is allowed. 8) Each Airfield has a Refueling/Rearming/Refitting Rate. Weapondry and Loadouts are now locked. 10) Players charged with specific Recon for "future or current missions" must have a transmitted message, (*use Chat), or have Objective HUD Message at the time of Recon and then Land at an Operational Airbase for recon to be verified and plotted for said future or current mission. Players may also take or be required to take Recon pictures. Landing rule applies and please submit Picture to [DBS]Tx_Tip for inclusion in future Recon Briefing Packs. 11) Just a gentle reminder. Please use appropriate armament for the Mission you are tasked for. ****Payloads and Weapondry are now locked 12) Airbase Attacks. **** Players may conduct a coordinated Airbase attack only on Enemy Bases which have been reconnoitered as specifically stated in #8 above or designated as a legitimate target. Targets below are required to close the base if a designated airfield attack is ordered: Ammo Bunkers Fuel Bunkers Dugouts Hangers There will be no vulching permitted in any instance. Make your attacks and retire from the area promptly. Legitimate ground targets next to operational airbases require fighter suppression on those bases. Again make your attacks and retire from the area promptly. I do not wish to completely deter attacks with additional flak pieces at Airfields. These resources can be better put to use in armor, vehicles, trains etc. that we all enjoy blowing up. Nuff said. 13) Tanks.*** Player controlled Tanks are excluded from the 12 Minute hold limit and may spawn in and begin moving when they are ready. It is suggested that the Player remove themselves from within the Spawn Point Radar ASAP. Your mission objectives will always be outside of this Radar. And there may be a time limit to achieve said objectives. Hint.Tanks travel via roads up to 3 times faster than off road. Just a reminder.... This in the Briefing for every Game-Server Mission that we at Battle-fields.com hosts including the 2 BoS servers... Please respect other pilots. Team Killing, Chute Attacks and Base Camping is strictly forbidden and players are subject to being Kicked from the server. Foul Language will not be tolerated. That is all. Have Fun! Tip 1
