Hi All, I have a question, I`m new to this IL2 Box thingy and was wondering do I have to purchase BoS first or can I just buy BoK and  be multiplayer ready?

Thanks

You can just buy BOK if you want. Just keep in mind that the BOK planeset is a bit limited for online wars that start with moscow, stalingrad and end with kuban.

Yesterday i bought the Battle of Stalingrad and i am busy setting up all my controls and learning to fly. So far i enjoy it alot, the only problem i have are the camera views in combat.

I do understand that TrackIR (or the cheaper alternatives) are superior to the hat switch. The question for hat switch users is, how do you keep track of the enemy?

I am using the T-Flight Hotas X, do you use the quick views on the hat switch or should i simply move my mouse to the left side, next to the throttle?

Hi,

Buy the TrackIr or use the red button on the top of your joystick, I have the same one, but I have the Trackir, it's much better.

Sorry the duplication...

Question Gentlemen:

Is there a way to send radio messages to the Control Tower to ask authorization to land or take off or orders to other members of your flight?

Thanks,

I would like to shill for a moment and say that if you want headtracking but don't want to spend $200 on TrackIR (or more for proper VR), invest maybe $20-$30 for something like Aruco. I use Aruco myself, and as much of a pain as it is sometimes I have proper headtracking and it is a godsend.

Shameless plug for my Opentrack + cheap TIR setup guide.  Get started for around $30 USD.

Salute and Howdy All!

Thought I'd take a minute to introduce myself and ask the question I'm sure have been asked a hundred times.

My handle is Gaidin and I've been flying online flight sims for over 25 years. My handle comes for a series of books written by Robert Jordan and means "Brother to Battles". It's the only handle I've ever used in my 25 plus years of my addiction.

My first Multiplayer game was Red Baron on a gaming portal called INN (if I recall right; Imagine Nation Network). Back then you paid $2.00 an hour to fly, I tried to limit myself to 50 hours a month. It was there I was recruited to my first squad; "GT" (it was called "German Team" then). When INN shut down we waited about a year for RB II to be released and GT's name was changed to "Gallant Talons" and I was made XO. When 3d video was released I built a system that was beyond the needs of RB II and I got the itch for something else and found my way to RB 3d where I was recruited by "RAF_209" and I worked my way up to XO. A system upgrade, again, made me want more so I found myself moving to IL2. There I was recruited to JG27 and I flew with that squad until IL2 ('46, I think) started going dry. I then found myself flying "Cliff's Of Dover".

I've taken a hiatus for the past 2 years after retiring and moving to Virginia, but I'm getting the itch I can't seem to scratch, again, and thought I'd try "GB".  I have purchased "Kuban" and have been practicing to the point I think I'm ready for online.

Now comes the clumsy questions......

Not sure I made the right choice in purchasing "Kuban". Should I have purchased one of the others to be able to better fly online?

Wings of Liberty seems to be the watering hole for this series, but I've tried to find a Teamspeak channel to help me acclimate to there. Is there a reason the Teamspeak channel is empty?

My plane of choice is the 190, and I have purchased the A-3 variant to help in the other maps. Should I purchase something other than a 190?

Thank you for any info that will get me back online again.

Gaidin

Hello and welcome.

For multi player you should have the Battle Of Stalingrad map which includes 109F4, 109G2, and He111H6. The premier edition has the 190A3 (you already have) and La5 ser8.

https://il2sturmovik.com/store/battle-of-stalingrad/

Thanks Gordan! Guess I'll get that so I can join the maps. Any other sage advice for getting back online?

When you launch the game using the shortcut that's placed on your desktop when you down loaded the game it checks for updates since the last time you used the sim. However there is no reason to use the launcher unless there is an update. There is no reason to have it running in the background while you fly and affecting performance.

Open the game file to Battle of Stalingrad>bin>game and look for a red star icon labelled 'IL-2'. Right click on it and select Send to - desktop as shortcut. You can use that icon on your desktop to launch the game without the update search running. Check this forum from time to time to see if there has been an update released recently. If so, use the other launcher to start the sim and then click the big green Enter button to activate recent changes.

Another thing about MP. Online you can fly on any map as long as the mission build includes a plane you own. So Battle of Stalingrad is usually suggested because it has the most encompassing plane set (being in the middle chronologically).

I’m flying with the steam edition. When will Bodenplatte be available for steam? I’m dying to get my hands on the mighty Jug!

Probably not until after the full release. But you don't need to die in vain. If you buy BoBP from the website, you can play it now - when you fire up BoS (directly from steam like you always do) you will have the Jug (as well as the other BoBP aircraft).

just introducing myself.  i played a hell of alot of Chuck Yeager's air combat when I was a kid, 1991 release date, and have been hooked on sim type games ever since.  i spent the last decade focused on sim racing.   I recently had to do some upgrades to my racing rig and wound up with a spare play seat and thought, it would be fun to turn the play seat into a flight sim rig.   Went in in BoX in a big way with the black friday sales and holy crap its AWESOME!!!   Really looking forward to getting into this title, community and into a proper air combat sim.

My only question at this time is, for those of you with tactile feedback (bass shakers) do you have an application that translates game physics into vibration effect.  For example a program that allows programming of vibration effect during high G maneuvers,  stalls , ect.   It does not look like Sim Shaker Wings supports BOS. (https://andres.shop/software/28-simshaker-wings.html)

For now I just run the audio through the shaker and get engine rumble and my teeth rattled out when firing machine guns but would like a bit more tun-ability for my tactile so I can better feel the aircraft since I do not have a FFB stick.

Here is the first evolution of my set up:

Input devices - Thrustmaster 160000 HOTAS flight stick, throttle and rudder pedals.

Rig - Play Seat gen 1 racing wheel mount

Tactile feedback - Bheringer iNuke 1000 DSP amp running 2x aura pro bass shakers (mounted under seat and under pedals)

Video - Oculus Rift

Computer - stock alien ware aura r7.  GTX1070 x i8700 x 16gb ram.

Salutations and Welcome. :salute:

This simulations provides a LOT of different planes to fly and many more on the way.

Not to mention being able to blow things up in tanks. More of them on the way too.

Happy flying and tanking. :yahoo:

Hi,

assuming you installed steam as default, your path to the skins will look like this:

"C:\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\graphics\skins"

So, in this folder you will find all plane sub-folders where you can put your individual skins. Just download the skins you like from this

forum. Maybe you need some archive tool like WinZIP or WinRAR as some of these skins are zipped because some of them are quite

heavy (~21MB each).

Hope this helps and welcome to the family.

I used to play Il-2 original back in the days. I didn't have much money then so I never got into headtracking but I had a x52.

Just starting to get into this new game but I find out that my x52 yaw is broken. I plan on getting a new joystick, headtrack (hatrack) and perhaps even rudder pedals after new years sometime but until then, can I fly a bomber decently without a good yaw mechanic. A He-111 for example? I could use buttons or perhaps a slider to help me take off but level bombing doesn't need as much yaw as for example ground attack or dogfighting right? Is this plausable?

Hello.   Newbe here to IL2 but I am learning fast.  Any pilots in the LA area?

If your stick is broken and bombers will be your focus, getting a good stick with twist seems to be your best answer. At least in the short term. You will need some sort of yaw control, as you've said, for takeoffs and landings. Not sure if you can put rudder on a slider but the keyboard should suffice for the moment.

There is mouse control in a pinch...................

I do my best to help and i'm sure if you look up WWII paints etc. you'll find the same help.

P.S. I think you can use nodded planes in campaigns as long as it's the right aircraft assuming you cant use planes outside the historical content, anyway you can only try it out.

Great to be on board. I am a former Birds of Steel (PS3) and War Thunder (PS4) player but looking to move to PC so that I can maximize the use of my Thrustmaster Wart Hog HOTAS.

This game seems to have what I am looking for...and this forum reminds me of the good old days with the Birds of Steel Forum before Gaijin took it down! - lots of members willing to help each other out!

I am building a gaming PC & wish to install Windows 10.

But the Ubisoft site states:  "Supported OS: Windows® 98/Me/XP/2000 (only)"

Will this game play under Windows 10?

Will my Thrustmaster Wart Hog HOTAS work with IL-2 & Windows 10

Apologies but I posted an abbreviated message on the General Discussion Forum before I came across this one for newbies.

Appreciate any advice!

Thanks!

…John

I am new to this "Game" if you want to call it that, as well.  It works fine under win 10.  The thrustmaster is what I have as well and the only thing I had to do was reprogram some keys and up she went. I do not think you will regret this move.
