No - Korea and the WWII GB module are the priority right now.

I see. Okay, Korea is the new babe, so fair enough. But WWII? Surely the Se5a FM revision is more important than that ancient history! C'mon 1C get your priorities right!

It’s the Albatros series that’s the biggest issue right now if compared to @Holtzauge’s data. If they were turning at modelled rates the SE5 would be more competitive in a dogfight; likewise if the Alb had more

speed and climb then it could energy fight more effectively and disengage more freely. This would help other match ups too like the DII vs DH2 (which is turning too slowly).

Exactly this.

@LukeFF I really appreciate you openly sharing progress with us, though I would also like to circle back to @Regingrave's post in the N28 FM review topic:

I realise that no firm deadline was set regarding Albatros FM reviews (well, 14 years and 11 months, I suppose), and software development always has its fair share of shifting priorities, yet I'd still counsel a degree of urgency.

The reasons for that are simple:

  • You've just released Vol IV as a monolithic release, which I thought was neat as it brought many people back all at once -- but also removed the incentive to check back regularly for content increments as was the case with previous early access releases . The airship will stretch this somewhat, since it's a feature that many have requested over the years. However, since it's not flyable, I doubt that it will be the main reason why customers stay engaged on the long term.

  • I hate to say it as I don't wish to sound ungrateful, but with the fixing of the N28 FM you have set a precedent that the team is willing to tackle longstanding issues, however late in the dev cycle. While that specific plane was broken to the point of being unflyable and something just had to be done, all in all the impact of this fix was minor.

Fixing the Albs would significantly improve every time period of Flying Circus, create a definitive upgrade path for those who never made the jump from Rise of Flight, and leave a lasting legacy that is truly your own.

All of this to say: you have built some momentum now. You can clearly see it online. Use it.

Use it before you put the sim into full maintenance mode and before you start focusing on future projects. It would be a shame to leave this potential revenue stream to slowly dry up.

P.S. I am contractually obliged to mention that the Fokker Dr.I is another outlier with regards to @Holtzauge's data. No, I promise, there is a point where you have to draw the line and say things are good enough to be left alone in the long term. To me, personally, it will be either before or after the Dr.I FM review.

OR .... they could just fix the Se5a FM. It's a simple concept to grasp.

Then one wouldn't be searching, searching, always searching for that one Alb to be more competitive against whilst being owned by every other German kite out there.

The SE5a is already the fastest plane in the sim at sea level. Its acceleration and energy retention are lackluster, though that is likely a direct result of its high top speed, which also matches historical data. Beyond that, all we know for sure is that it was able to outturn the Albatros D.III/D.Va. In other words: if the Albs’ rate of turn becomes worse, the SE5a Viper will absolutely dominate it in every way, which it should. The SE needs to feel like an actual upgrade over the Camel, which should really struggle to disengage from an Albatros.

That said, pitched against a Fokker D.VII or a Fokker Dr.I, I really wouldn’t expect the SE5a to be able to do much more than slashing attacks, which is exactly what it can do now. I also wouldn’t expect it to be on the same level as the Fokker D.VIIF. It’s not a SPAD. It’s not even a Dolphin, which was considered the superior dogfighter (the SE5a Viper would have climbed better, though). So again, much of what we find frustrating about the SE right now is that it doesn’t have a proper representation of its most common foe all the way up to the summer of 1918, which ironically is when it became available in numbers.

I’d still love to see an early SE5a 150hp in the sim, with a lower service ceiling than the Albatros D.III.

How does the 150hp SPAD 7 compare to an early 150hp SE5a? Give it the overwing, and it'll even have an equivalent armament, even if it looks a bit funny and doesn't have the same visibility.

But yeah, the SE5a may not be the greatest FM, but as it stands it seems about right against the Dr1 and D.VII, whereas the Albatros in general seems the most wrong of anything.

As I posted on Discord yesterday, if there is an update on this sort of thing, it will be shared as an official announcement. Until then, there's nothing new to report.

Time sure flies. Another month has passed.  Please give us an update on the status of this topic, and the Zeppelin's.   Thanks in advance.

Who's doing the zep model @LukeFF? Ugra/inhouse?

@LukeFF, you're right, it doesn't matter who is doing the zep. 🙂

However, it would be nice to know that some group (whoever that may be) is actually working on it. That is to say, work has begun (or not). 🙂 I don't know about anyone else, but I find it a little weird that 6 months after the announcement there has been nothing about its progress or timeline or anything.

Does Ugra even make plane models? I've only ever heard them making maps.

I think that it is done inhouse, and then they would of course give priority to Korea. This is probably more of a 'we have a bit of time left over in the planning for the plane makers, so let's make a Zeppelin', sort of thing.
