Taxiing to runway AI behaviour, is there any fix for the dumb AI?

Well the title says it all and googling the problem shows its not a new issue and one which the developers seem to be either ignoring or side stepping. For those who do not know what im talking about, the AI flight lead  can often, even when in a perfect position ON the runway, request taxi to runway then proceed to bumble around and crash into other AI aircraft. Sometimes they manage to take off, but often either the entire mission start is ruined OR only part of the flight makes it into the air. I suppose an air start is the only sure fire fix until the devs acknowledge and fix the issue.

If anyone has a fix for this, please let me know

Sounds like a mission-building problem.  I just made a campaign (Winter Wonderland) and it was my first try to have taxiing to the runway.  All planes taxi and takeoff just fine.

Is this one of your own missions or another ?

As Texan says above, could well be a sequencing issue in the ME.

It's been reported and acknowledged as an issue with a least two airfields - Woodchurch and High Halden. If you've seen the problems at any other airfields, please let me know here. ?

Well, firstly its a PWCG mission if thats relevent (an unofficial mod mission)

Secondly, its from the Airfield Davydovskiy, AI lead, one other AI pilot and myself are all set up on runway for takeoff, AI lead requests permission from the tower to taxi to the runway (although he is already perfectly set up there) then taxis, turns and makes for the Wind Sock, the second AI pilot then does the same, both either collide with the wind sock or each other or both. Maybe its an issue caused by the wind sock? Doesnt seem to happen at airfields without one next to runway (in my limited experience so far)

Please note the attached file is converted fron a .json file so i could upload it.

I just started flying after a long break, I'm currently flying Bf 109 E-7 and at an end of a mission (career mode), I turn on the AI and let it land. When the plane lands I noticed sometimes a wing looses it's components (like slats etc)...

Ah okay, in that case please let Pat know.

@Parazaine and @LukeFF this is an unresolved old issue at Davydovskiy, see the thread 3 year old thread below when @PatrickAWlson was trying to work through it with @Murleen's help.  My suggestion to Parazaine for a work around is to convert to airstarts until your squadron is transferred from that field.

Thanks, will let the team know. ?

On this subject, I think some of the taxi points are overlapping or very close to each other on the Vivaise airfield (Western Front, 1312-6).  Some aircraft will not takeoff from the runway start point (some don't even throttle up).  Others take-off.  I'm assuming the aircraft position is triggering two points so the AI gets confused.

Can you double-check Davydovskiy in the stock career and see if the problem is still there? I asked about this internally and they said the AI should take off from there correctly now. But also, if this airfield is still an issue with PWCG, then the team would like to see the mission file for that one too.

Hi Luke - I really appreciate the team's willingness to check into these and your efforts to get eyes on the them.  Just to clarify, I was mostly responding to @Parazaine with a work around based on the experiences in PWCG a few years ago that were discussed in the old thread.  I don't know if it has ever been a problem in the Stock Career.

That said, I am happy to spend some time at Davydovskiy experimenting in the Stock Career and in PWCG to see what I can provide if for them.  Stay tuned...:salute:

P.S. - Please thank them for the P-47 FM change - just tried it out last night in a PWCG career, what a difference!

Alright, cool, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. ? I've been busy with a mountain of other stuff recently for the team.

Tested in Stock Career (only U-2 available at that AF) and did 3 take offs without any issues.

Then ran a PWCG mission and the problem persists there and seems to be in the positioning of the flight on the runway, the AI wants to turn around and taxi further back to reposition for take off.  So, I think the Team can keep Davydovskiy off their problem AF list since it only occurs for me in PWCG.  I know @PatrickAWlson is working on a lot of other more important things right now too, so personally, I am happy to just use PWCG air starts as the easy work around for any squadron based there if running that campaign.

Thanks again for responding and good luck with that mountain - that means good things for us!

Thanks for getting back to me on this. ?

FYI, on a side note, the taxi and takeoff problems in stock career mode for Normandy at Woodchurch and High Halden should be fixed in the next update.
