Pacific WW2 sim - COMBAT PILOT

I think the longer this goes on, the worse it will be for all of us, and especially for the development teams. They are, without a doubt, working to offer us the best experience possible within their hands.

The team has always been attentive when I’ve had any questions or technical problems, and they appreciate the help we give them, as you said. @Denumand @Han. I don’t think everything is black or white. Everybody has treated me very well here and I am greateful of that.

Regardless of the simulator or their ideas, I believe that everyone, including them, wants us to be able to fly and enjoy. Nothing more. Be it now or when Jason was at charge.

So, friends, let's keep a cool head and enjoy the simulators. :) Many cool things in the future!

Avimimus I've not followed these statements, to be fair. It was realy so? Woah... No comments here.

Just to be clear - we're just talking about my personal impression. I can't know Jason's intentions, but I do feel things could be handled better. I personally don't think anything has been said (publicly) that couldn't be overlooked in favour of more friendly relations - although I know everyone involved his human and people can disagree (again, just my personal opinions).

I do hope that the genre keeps to grow, all of these products are successful, and I will continue to prevent people criticising any product in a way which is unfair (i.e. I've been applying the forum rules to ensure this remains a peaceful space, and everyone is treated fairly - not just Great Battles, but also Combat Pilot, DCS, and Cliffs of Dover).

I think this is a good way - and I'd hope moderators elsewhere would follow this approach.

Absolutely agree.

It's a small community. Let's be real. Most of us are buying both products.

Jason Williams 'said nothing but great things about the team' isn't the full picture.

Jason Williams gave an entire interview shortly after the he left the company:

- In the interview he went over everything he claimed he would have done with the series if he had total control.

- He did this before the new team leaders had a chance to establish themselves publicly or announce anything new.

- However, (1) he didn't actually have to deliver on any of these claims and (2) many of them are things that he had previously said wouldn't be feasible for several years.

- It had the effect of undermining the existing team while establishing himself as someone who would give us everything we wanted if only he had the chance, and helping set up his new company.

I think you are referring to the Stormbirds interview at the end of 2022? I did not remember Jason saying anything bad about his team, so I went back and re-read it and still can't find where he said anything bad about the team. He did not always agree with the company decision makers above him, but did not say anything bad about the team that worked for him. Restrictive resources or money not to be able to do whatever he wanted was no surprise, he often referred to it also while he was still a producer.

Also, the new team had had lots of time to establish themselves by that time already and they still took extraordinarily long time afterwards, before announcing their new plans, so how can Jason be blamed for that? Even the "Microprose news" about Jason had not come out yet at that time, let alone anything related to Combat Pilot.

He does say a lot in the interview what "he" did or would have done instead of "the team", but I did not see it as undermining the team, but telling that he was behind the decisions (good or bad). His team might have decided differently, as is evident with Han's later comments.

For sure Jason doesn't have faith to switch to new engine, pacific in old tech would be very limited and not up to what we want.

Has Jason said if they will man the AA pits on the carriers? It always looks awkward with empty pits.

Jason Williams announced his departure on October 2022. He gave that interview in December - and based on the interview, he was already in negotiations with investors by that time. Combat Pilot was announced by March. So it is clear that plans for Combat Pilot were already underway. From the perspective of game development timelines, I think these events can be treated as relatively simultaneous.

I might also be influenced by my own experiences. I think it is safe to say that everyone has a perspective, we all have a partial understanding - and that is alright.

Regarding my own experience - there was a certain amount of harassment that was directed at the original team when Jason left. I wouldn't blame Jason Williams for this - but I was very much aware of the environment becoming more hostile around that time, and that could influence my own impressions of that time and the split. Things people who aren't moderators might not be aware of.

I personally found the interview fascinating and appreciate Jason Williams. I'm just pointing out that there is a lot of history (and obviously personal relationships and behind the scenes history which we won't know about) - which means we should try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt.

Anyway, I've said my piece and will stop now. We can get back to discussing things like 'ghost gunners' and torpedoes etc.

In the official announcement of Jason’s departure - in October, you might note that he actually left 1CGS in the Spring.

If you recall, the forums were awash with speculation as to what had become of the series producer throughout the summer.

That adds an extra five months to your timeline. Combat Pilot was announced nearly eleven months after Jason’s departure from 1CGS.

Jason’s standout characteristic on these forums and the RoF forums has been his trenchant defence of and admiration for his team. He simply would not brook any criticism.

The bottom line; everyone knows that Han and the team have immense talent and drive.

For all the naysayers, Korea and it’s carrier follow up is going to be technically superb and a best seller.

Combat Pilot is new, extremely innovative and looking very good. The CFS market - compared to the general gaming industry - is small but undoubtedly lucrative.

There is always room for more.

I don't think I can argue with any of that (although I'm not sure about the internal timeline of him stepping down, of course).

I always liked the look of Japanese carriers, especially Akagi.    Something primitive and steampunk about them.

@[CPT]Crunch Yeah, just like that :) .  I have been to England (and London) three times but never got on one of those things.  Feel like I missed out.

And elf-n-safety being what it is these days, you probably never will. How I never killed myself trying to board one on the move I have no idea. I suspect that my recent interest in aircraft carrier operations may in fact be a subconscious attempt to recreate my youth. Carriers are easier though, since you get multiple wires to aim for. HMS Routemaster had but a single pole on the platform to hook onto, and there was never any option to go around...

Well, the truth is that Combat Pilot will bring to us , all that we dream about on BOX, i feel so happy to finally see fliying a B-17 , totally rendered and pre-alpha, ( not an AI Model maked for shooting down ).

At least we have a light on the horizon for WW2 Flight Simming.

Regards.

The more the merrier. I guess in the 2nd half of this decade the customer will have some very interesting games to play.

Just look at those clean crisp clearly defined horizons and a sun that is a morning sun, not blazing full bright as if it's high noon all day from the first rise till going down.

The video states that early access is paywalled, as well as some other content (e.g. Q&As and flight mechanics lectures seem to appear only on the higher tiers). Paid subscribers may also gain access to more community communication channels. However, there will clearly also still be public access to some development diaries.

It is all there in the video you linked. You don't need to ask the question.

No idea why it wasn't officially announced, but the game now has a Steam page:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2761800/COMBAT_PILOT_CARRIER_QUALIFICATION/

It was announced in the CB Discord though the page is currently only for the Tech Alpha which is only going to be available to top tier Patreon subscribers. Still, a more widespread announcement may have generated more subscriptions I guess.  Sadly forums appear to have become second class citizens to muddled stream of nonsense that is Discord.

I did not do it for trials. I wonder if my spot can be given to a more confident person.
I like to support this development and do it at a difficult personal economical time for me. But hey thise times comes and go away, I don’t want this to go away. I don’t like the site of theirs , not really like it here either. I speak as I do in the real world and get banned for reasons I cannot comprehend.
Anyway. If it is possible I will give my patreon spot to anyone feeling they can contribute in a positive way in terms of testing if possible

Id like you in all the forums Luse, if only to help convince me that Im not missing the point in wondering if its justifiyable spending another penny on this hobby at the moment given the sorry state its in. More than that, I enjoy your posts and view apprciate you take on things.

Like you Im paying my Ace patreon in an attempt to give life to something that could be good but am not especially interested in Tech Alphas. I'll not be going out of my way to try and pass the steam code onto some random tourist though. I dont see any benefit to CB for doing it. If people are invested enough to contribute meaningfully, they can find £25 for the month and contribute that way. Lets be honest the vast majority will have nothing to contribute over and above "its neat" "its not neat" and its really nothing more than a carrot for the top tier in any case.
