spudkopf Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 (edited) G'day As has been requested I have put together below a linked index of all the official 4k Skins that have thus far historically corrected. It will also help me keep track of the work that I have already done (not to mention remind me of what I've not done). I have also included non-linked place holders for the both aircraft I've not yet been corrected in GREY as well as those not yet released in PINK. These place holds will be updated as and when corrections are completed. timothy55 Posted April 17, 2022 Posted April 17, 2022 In case of missing message, Hi spudkopf Enjoying your German Hakenkreuz updated official skins. But how would I get the official Allied skins with the game as file for my skins folder?
Ringlett Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 There are a lot of those topics, but I'll just add it here. Don't be mad at me. I don't mind adding swastikas to planes where they belong, I draw them myself. But I'm interested in another thing. A lot of aircraft in the game, Spitfire IX, P-40, P-47, Yaks to name a few, very often have a camouflage colouring for a completely different variant of the aircraft. For Spitfire IX there are colorations for variant VIII, for Yak 1B there are colorations for Yak 3, for Yak 9 it is mixed horribly. This really bothers me. Yes, for example, I don't distinguish between the "c" and "e" armament variants for Spitfire IX's, but it's definitely wrong to use the coloration for the 1942 variant for this late 1944 variant that's in the game. Same for the other machines. That's the same offence as the swastika. Isn't it? How do you see it? 1

I suppose that the fake swastika is a historical innaccuracy everyone detects, and not so much people (even myself I'm learning still) knows the correct coloration patterns. Firt of all. Thank you very much for your work, @spudkopf. At the moment I am using the mod of historically accurate skins in 4k. Are these skins the same or there is any difference? Do they have to work as a mod, too? I would love to be able to play at all multiplayer servers seeing the historically correct skins, but I understand that this isn't posible if the server doesn`t allow mods, right? Thanks! I will answer only part of the question. Because I don't know anything about the rest of the problem. I consider the missing swastika to be the least of the problems, it's simply dictated by the laws of the particular states. Nothing can be changed there. It can only be solved by way of using mods. But using colorations not belonging to a given version of the aircraft reduces the game to the level of "games for kids" like WOT. We're playing a simulator. Unfortunately, the game contains a number of much bigger problems. Since the penultimate update, I've been getting run over by enemy machines. Yes, without firing, they hit me and disappear into the distance without damage. And my machine falls to pieces. And many other bugs ....
Hien-0_1* Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 Hi spudkopf! Sorry, I have a question (a request!).? The new Mosquito MkVI has victory-markings on the nose marked HK. They are very large and are extremely (ugly!) conspicuous with the censored depiction of the HK. Could you correct/change that? Three aircraft are affected: "Hairless Joe", "Maple Leaf" & "Black Rufe" I would be very grateful!!! Regards Christoph

(Shortened) Thanks, really appreciate it. but what i miss in general is a GTP tool to re-gttp these files to place them in the data folder instead of the ones present. I don't use a laptop and put my IL2 folders on a different drive, but all take up too much disk space still IMO. Only 5 4k skins seem about 1 MB, so laptoppers must count their blessings ?? PS have you considered creating bundled zip files? Also since my download via Firefox gives me 'potential risk" download errors ... Found a download tool for firefox; app called download manager. Highlight all links you want on a page, then use 'save link with one click' (right mouse click). Default downloads in users download folder. Edited June 30, 2022 by jollyjack

Well that was a real bear, each Mossie model uses two skins, and the Hakens naturally cross over the boundaries of both. jollyjack Posted July 1, 2022 Posted July 1, 2022 Hi spudkopf, i get errors with your mosquito skins (in Viewer.exe 4.706b). #1 changes to ?1 and so on I did not test other skins than the Mosquito yet .. Can it be that language settings have something to to changing the ## type? They seem different: I set my PC to english USA: files downloaded from you: When i change the ## symbols manually all is well.

Well not sure what's going on there, just downloaded the files myself and the file names where the same as the originals, so it could be a language thing? This type of skin naming thing with the # is kind of a new thing (I first noticed on the Hurricane I believe) and probably has something to do with the multiple skin method now in use. Here's a link to the Mossie files zipped, to help you out. MosquitoFBMkVIs2.zip This is more or less a one off, as there are simply now too many of my corrected skins to retrospectively go back and ZIP them all again, and storage space (and time for that matter) is already at a premium as well. Cheers

Set right by WinZIP? Might has to do with the ASCI coding on your Windows. (German language?) Both in the same folder, the greys are from the zip. I use Windows 10 Enterprise set to English, found out that using Dutch, even as second language always gives some errors at times. ====================================================================================== PS your ar234b2 skins posted don't have the secondary skins ... why some are called blank here i also don't get. Unpacked from the skins21.GTP they show up normal, no one called blank: I begin to think that these "blank' name versions are related to the IN-game renamed versions as seen in the viewer and game addressed somewhere else. They still show up there even with a disabled skins21.GTP file. In the planes11.GTP there are also ar234 and mosquito related dds files in textures You'll find dds files with the faux haken there ... example: ar234b2.dds, apparently a 4k skin Edited July 1, 2022 by jollyjack

jollyjack Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 (edited) PFF, to think modern life of a skinner is becoming easier. Pity that being just a simpleminded taxidermist is such a stinking & filthy job ... Found some blue bit map dds files too in a textures folder, still wonder if they possibly add to a skin, or only the mgm model. Edited July 3, 2022 by jollyjack
