Mission Editor 4.701 crashes on saving with Rheinland maps only ?

My mission editor crashes when i load a 4.605b Bodenplatte mission for re-saving. Not with other maps it seems ...

It seems only with ALL MISSIONS made by the same person for this map, re-saving via a re-imported group of all the items does not fix it.

I begin to think it has to do with an older MCU or block, whatever .... Other missions for the same Rheinland map seem to begave fine.

The saved mission seems OK after that. Re-loading it it still crashes on save. ... Any ideas for a fix?

Well, all I know is - all of my playground missions, from Kuban through Stalingrad, Bodenplatte and Moscow - now no longer load in the ME,  They just get an error right away and that's that.  Oddly however, I did use the "Resave all missions in folder" for the Bodenplatte missions and at least one example loads and flies just fine in the game.

But if they won't load into the ME anymore - I'm stumped.  Guess it was a good run while it lasted.   Back to helicopters in MSFS now I suppose, although it absolutely pains me to say that.   I can't change or build on these any longer. ☹️

I'm not quite sure I understand your post exactly. It sounds like you tried to open a mission so that you could resave it. Instead, you should just open the editor and use the Tools menu to save all the missions in a folder at one time, not open each mission and resave them. Note that this can take a LONG time if there are a lot of large missions in a folder, so it may look like your editor has locked up.

Hi Jim. Stoopy is right, and i found this with a few other missions. Resave works, but then when the save happened the ME in4.701 crashes.

I think it might be related to an incidental missing or changed MCU, or a block. In Stoopy's case a downer as is interactive series were quite fun for a quick spin around the block with a new plane and trying it out ..

Sad News, hopefully someone can suggest a fix.

I just flew the K4 Autumn scenario Bodenplatte playground mission and it ran like a charm and did not drop below 89 fps with the HP Reverb G2.

Glorious and smooth visual experience and 5 sitting ducks, oops, Bombers in the bag!

It's sad, to see you Fleeing to Flying helicopters. DCS got me tempted thanks my son in law, tough sh*t without pedals.

But i think i found a fix for ye" ...

1) New ME: load your mission.

2) Select all items (Cntr A) and save as group.

3) CREATE a NEW EMPTY MAP with the parameters set NEWLY as used addressing them in terrain presets, and apply GUI and Season to make sure.

4) On that new dancefloor, import your saved group .......... BINGO !

And Eureka, saving works again. I had these obstructing missions on several other resaves, ME crash.

No worries, @RAAF492SQNOz_Steveand @jollyjackbut thanks for the kind words and offers of assistance.

As it turns out, after a PM from @JimTM, I went back and re-tried the "Resave all missions in Folder" tool.  Funny thing is, I had already done that to two of the PG mission folders (Bodenplatte and Moscow) and although the mission binaries loaded in the game, the XML mission files would not load in the editor, and got an instant error.

I decided to reboot my PC and tried the Resave option again and - voila - now I can load the mission files in the editor.  I have to assume that I was just running low on resources or some other app had left something in memory that caused bad juju with the ME.  The old adage "When in doubt, Reboot" proved itself once again.

I plan on uploading new healthy versions of all the PG's later today.  I admit to having had fun being a rotorhead in other sims but in testing the rebuilt missions I've found I like the new 'splosions and clouds a lot.  ?

Top notch, but what and where are these XML files? lst?

Dumped all files, kept only the * mission files, rebooted several times by now, ME still crashes on save.

Maybe some windows error, but found no faults.  Running sfc.exe shows no system file errors.

BTW Found this :

------------------------------

ADDED ... These XML related links seem to have to do with the latest MS office, not on my PC as i use Libre Office ....

Checked my windows Enterprise further, and besides also updated my MB BIOS (needed for Windows11) and i updated all my Campaigns in one go without errors.
