You need to remap the command to your controller.

I totally know why they chose to allow only third person bailouts, and I also understand why they don't want to go back and add the pilot's body to every cockpit (especially given the issues associated with 6 DoF player point of view movement and obscuring of instruments) but it is surprising how enjoyable these features are. I didn't think they would be but they do have benefits. Alas, they have more important work to do!

Just lock the head movement until your parachute is deployed. Once there then you can look around.

@LukeFF Remapped my controller.....P-40 still not working....tried several other planes and my controller works fine...for me it seems like it is just the P-40.  sorry but it does not make any sense to me that other planes work fine but not the P-40...?....P.S. do you mean I need to re-map all my settings for that controller?

P40 radiator is controlled by the "cowl outlet shutter" command, not the "coolant radiator".

Always has been.

Why does just about every update mess up my controller mappings?

Hey guys,

Has anyone been playing much SP campaign since the latest update?  - I have a BOM career on the go, just about at the counter offensive stage in early Dec '41.  Ever since update 4.603 I've noticed a change specifically with 'Vehicle column attack' missions.

Pre-update when my flight and I got to target we seemed to have around 10 mins or so to drop bombs or fire rockets and do a bit of strafing on the trucks in the column.  So far after the new update, I've been assigned 3 vehicle column attacks and on each one, as soon as I or one of my AI teammates destroys one truck, we immediately get the big 'mission objective complete' yellow letters on screen, triggering the AI to head to steerpoint 4 and return home.

Just wondered if this is a bug in my campaign (started before the latest update) or if this is new mission behaviour, either intended or unintended.  Kind of takes the fun out of the mission with all my team mates buggering off after destroying just one truck ?

I should point out my campaign is with a Mig-3 squadron.  I created a new campaign last night and joined an IL-2 squadron.  First mission was Artillary strike, that one seemed fine, got to drop all bombs and rockets and destroy multiple targets before we got mission complete message so I can't tell yet if creating a new campaign fixed it,  changing aircraft, or if its just vehicle column missions that are affected.  Hoping to get a vehicle column mission pop up in my IL-2 campaign tonight to try and test further.

If anyone has opportunity to test this, could you try it and let me know if they are seeing similar behaviour in ground attack missions in Moscow campaign, specifically vehicle column attacks.

Cheers!

Ross

In case if there is an attack mission with airplanes which had weak fixed armament for ground attack (Yaks, 109`s, MiG`s etc) - after they will drop their external loadout on target (bombs or rockets) - there will be very short timeout for "go home", so if your flight did it that way - its how its supposed to be.

That must be it VikS - Glad there is nothing wrong with my campaign and its working as intended.  Many thanks for confirming that, certainly makes sense to be in and out as quickly as possible in that scenerio, I will adjust my strategy accordingly.

Thanks again to you and the team for another terrific update!

Cheers,

Ross

The rear gunners are good.  Wouldn't put it past them.

Did something similar with my mission generator.  Once one plane goes bingo ordnance I start a 30 second timer.  That gives the rest of the flight 30 seconds to drop their ordnance.  After 30 seconds whoever still has ordnance jettisons and the flight goes home.  Better that than lingering and getting killed by AAA.

Sd.Kfz. 10/5 Flak 38 - Shouldn't the driver's windshield go back up once the gunner returns to the fixed position?  Currently it goes down when the gunner gets ready to fire, but once he goes back to fixed position, the windshield stays down.

Plenty of wartime pictures out there showing them being driven with the windshield down...

The thing really isn't fast enough to need the windscreen anyway.  In real life they just were not driven around all the time a full throttle like we do in the sim.  The crew couldn't take that for very long over real off road terrain.

My Uncle drove for Patton in Italy as a supply truck driver.  He always laughed at movies showing US trucks with the windshields up.  He said they never drove with them up as they would reflect sunlight during the day and moonlight at night thus giving their position away to the Germans.  He said that they would fold down the windshield and wrap it in canvas so keep if from reflecting.  They even drove in heavy rain that way, wearing raincoats to stay somewhat dry.  He said driving for Patton was an honor and at the same time the most demanding job he ever did in WWII.  Another thing he said was all wrong about WWII movies, they covered up the big white stars painted on the vehicles with mud to cut down on visibility and nighttime reflections.

He gave me a first hand look at WWII in Europe telling me his exploits.

Just flew again today after downloading the latest hot fix.

I'm not sure all what was done, but damn, the DM is getting better and better.  Hispanos still effective at deleting the opposition, but with less fireworks.  The 50 cals are now seizing engines after a quick burst, even without starting a fire.  Chapeau!

My Uncle JC was in the Navy in WWII and would spend time on the islands they had invaded running supplies back and forth to shore.  He was a Coxswain on small boats.  He ended up wounded when what he said was a Zero strafed his jeep going up a road on a hill, it killed the kid driving and the jeep went down the side of the mountain.  Messed up my Uncles leg and knee, spent the rest of the war in San Diego Naval Hospital.  His biggest fear is snakes, he said on one island they ran supplies and ammo to Marines on an island and they hiked in to the camp, he said he could not believe how many snakes he saw on that short hike.. unlike jaws he wanted back in the boat.. What is new in the 4.603b update?

First, thanks Devs for fixing the new wakes, they are much better.

There is a small but noticeable thing, the ships leave asymmetrical wakes.

Shown are the Russian torpedo boat and the destroyer.  All ships leave these type wakes at all speeds.

My preference is the right side effect.

No sweat if a fix for this goes at the very bottom of the To Do List.

I think this is when you use torpedo mod, same texture that i added there for torpedo is used for ships, and looks like that.

Do you have mods turned on, and do you see same when you turn off all mods ?

You're right, it is a mod issue.  Disabled it and regular wakes appeared.

4.603b hotfix released:

  1. Fixed a GUI freeze when launching a Quick Mission for users who have only Tank Crew or Flying Circus;
  2. Added missing map "Lapino Autumn" for users who have only Tank Crew;
  3. Fixed a problem with repeated cocking of Lewis machine guns when starting a mission with unlimited ammo option enabled;
  4. Typhoon: an inaccuracy in the location of the fuel mass has been corrected, which led to an incorrect small additional roll during G-load;
  5. A ship bow, submarine periscope and torpedoes leave more visible wakes;
  6. Fixed a problem with the Airco D.H.4 and Bristol Fighter bombsights when using VR devices;
  7. Bf 109 G-6 Late: drop tank can't be selected in loadout (drop tanks will be available when we release the new fuel systems);
  8. P-38: fixed a graphic bug with brake flaps not disappearing after wing detachment;
  9. Spitfire Mk.XIV: removed the white line on the gunsight lens;
  10. Padlock camera: fixed switching to third-person view when jumping out of the plane with the padlock camera turned on;
  11. Padlock camera works if external views are disabled in the difficulty settings;
  12. Player controllable anti-aircraft guns: a first ammo clip will be correctly reloaded with unlimited ammo option turned on;
  13. Sounds of objects falling on the ground and water were improved;
  14. Fixed the bomb load of the player's flight in the 2nd scenario of the Steel Birds campaign.

Something planned for "object undefined" error window on missions against russians (Steel birds 1st mission)? I have these windows appearing as soon as I get close of russian artillery (He 85mm, He 10kg, etc.)
