Very cool! A xwa mod I guess?

Downloaded x-wing alliance, then the upgrade and then finally the Tie Fighter mod. Even managed to get alliance working in VR….but for the life of me I can’t get the controls set up.

Would love to use my Hotas set up but think that’s unlikely, so just want to play with the joystick without constantly spinning.

Anyone have any tips?  Cheers

Run the XWAJoystick Config app. Managed to set up my stick and throttle just fine. Have a look (and fingers crossed for you).

Cheers.  I've tried running that but to be honest I've no idea how to set it up.  My MFG Crosswind's come up as the main controller and I can't find a way to move the Warthog Joystick to the main one.  Do you have any tips for an idiot like me??

@Redwo1f

Purchased X-Wing Alliance and installed

Downloaded the X-Wing alliance upgrade and installed

Downloaded the Total conversion 1.0

Error on install:

Could not find file TieFighterOutland.ini

Resolved:

https://www.moddb.com/mods/tie-fighter-total-conversion-tftc/forum/thread/error-issue-installing

I had installed the mega patch but not the other patch.  Need to install both in the orde4r specified by this thread.

At the moment I'm thinking that I wasted $10 and an hour or so of my time.  Did get it installed but the game is unplayable.  I start the game from the BabuFriksConfiguratorTFTC.exe and it just dies.  No  messages and no logs.  So I start it from Alliance.exe in the main directory but it looks like 1996, so I am guessing that the TC did not take.  Still, at least the game come up. Then when I press launch everything starts spinning.

If I can find some reliable instructions I'll give it another go, otherwise it's just $10 thrown away.

Maybe this helps?

PS

VR feels very unpleasant for me - but in 2D it seems great.

@Eisenfaustus The instructions definitely help - sort of.  I did a ground up reinstall and got a couple of missing steps.  Definitely running the TC now, so good.  Bad news is that everything still spins as soon as I press launch.  it's not the ship that's spinning, it's my head.  Something is thinking that I am constantly pressing "look up".  Should be able to figure it out as it appears to be just view control keys.

For anybody using this mod - use the video above.  It is very clear and IMHO covers a few things that are not at all obvious in the written instructions on the site.

Progress.  Open the game and look at the settings in the launch popup.  PoV views were mapped to buttons on the throttle.  Unmapped it and now my head doesn't spin, so that's good. Not so good is that now the ship itself does not respond to joystick inputs.  Still progress of a sort.

More progress.   Setting the roll and pitch axis to the correct controller with an axis of -1 solved the uncontrolled roll problem.  Now on to throttle.

One issue that I have is mapping axis from controllers to the game.  Is X axis axis 1?  axis 0? Will post findings as I get them.  I can at least fly the thing now, granted wither full speed zero :)

WOW! Good memories ? X-Wing and Tie-Fighter were great back then. Loved the campaigns.

@PatrickAWlson

Sorry for the delay. It's been a while since I installed it, but it looks like you made progress. :)  If I recall correctly I had issues to to begin with (either not having a patch 4, or I think it was, needing to turn off my anti-virus or make an exception for the total converter/configurator (eg. BabuFriks) while running that. Joystick issues I had were solved by using the XwaJoystickConfig utility included.

Best of luck to you! it is pretty fantastic!

Squadrons was such a disappointment for me.  I was hoping for a sim, basically IL-2 in space with actual fleet battles.  Detailed damage models, destroyable subsystems, combat comparable to the source material, etc.  Instead we got TIE fighters that took more shots to kill than X-Wings in any other media and weird drift boosting.  This conversion looks interesting and closer to what I wanted.
