SkinDownloader: Artists, make your skins easy to get!

Dear artists,
I came across this tool that was just released: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/70078-haluter’s-skin-downloader-for-the-il-2-sturmovik-great-battles-series/

It is really well made and allows to centralize skins and download them easily.
Artists need to upload their skins for them to be available and I see there are not much Tank skins.
Are you aware about this tool? @Maillon21@Tomi_099 @SR603-Flowbeeand others ?

yes lots are not in there, I hope the creators of skins start adding them.

Still not much tank skins . I do not see yours for instance @Tomi_099 . Is it something you do not want to do for some reasons or is it something you intend to do but did not have time to so far ?

i look the discussion, but not sure to understand why is better to use it? the actual way to install skin is not complicated... what more does it do?

For new comers it detects automatically where il2 is, so no need to explain where to put the skins. Also it centralizes the info and you do not need to find skins in various topics on the forum. So if all skins were there, it would be quite easy to download them all in one click. There are also more functionnalities in development and in the future I think it will be possible to download specific custom skin packs (like for an event or for a specific server)

nothing else I think at the moment, but not everyone goes to the il2 forum because the main content is in english. In the french il2 discord I use, I would say that less than 50% of the guys go to the forum and way less know how to use skins. If I want to sync all the skins I have with them it would mean sharing a rather large .zip, Also it is a bit against the etiquette of the forum I think to make bundles of skins and distribute them without the author's consent. And if I would like to go beyond that, for instance if I wanted that all the players on Advance And Secure have some skins in common, it would be even more complicated...

 BUMP*... for Haluters Skin Downloader its the dogs danglies for IL-2 skins, theres so many skins missing its a crime, all you need to do is download the program then upload your skins within  Haluters Skin Downloader, where you can display your skins...Please Do It... the future of skinning kind depends on you...

Another advantage is the handling of updates. If the skinner updates one of their skins (changes, fixes, whatever) on HSD then the next time you run the program it’s going to get you to download the new version of the skin.

 

Through the forums the equivalent is stumbling across a thread where the someone says they have updated the skin, and you somehow happen to remember that this skin is one of the many that you have installed. Then downloading and overwriting the skin yourself. You might never realise that your using old versions of skins.

 

Therefore as long as you run it every now and then (which you will in order to download new skins anyway) then your entire library of skins is kept up to date.

 

The handling of censored markings is also better.

i have seen the dark side and will be over to TC very soon, ill happily make skins for the tanks once i get the files downloaded , i have always used HSD for il2, sooo much less hassle

So does this mean that if tank skins are loaded into this link all players will be able to see them in the on-line multiplayer servers?

Only from the player that have downloaded them from this tool

Please remember to create skins that don't have numbers associated with the skin. Since TC has the built in number system, a lot folks, including myself, use the in-game number system to help ID squad members.  Thank you for taking up the work.
