Hello,

I’m looking for your experiences on how to mount / keep the headset cable. On my current cockpit, I’ve tried letting it loose behind my neck, with OK result except for it getting stuck behind my shoulder after checking six. I’ve tried looping the cable underneath the head rest between the headrest posts (the seat is a salvaged seat from a Honda prelude), it can become “sticky”. I’ve tried keeping the looped section hung on seat back adjustment wheel (without much success).

what is your preferred method? If I may ask?

Edit: I know the cockpit is a total cluster in its current configuration (never had to use it for flight sim(s)), I will have to do some “adjustments” to make it more flight friendly.

I’ve tried all sorts of things myself, including little bungee cords and binder clips, but lately I’ve just been sandwiching it between my back and my chair, with enough loose cable that I can turn my head without pulling it.

But I, too, will wait to see what others suggest here!

The cable is going from my hmd to he head strap (my back), then again beside my neck going down into my lap. There is small loop, and then across my desk to pc.

The part in my lap is big enough to compensate my turning.

Thanks guys,

@TCW_Brzi_Joe, I tried your method, but couldn’t make it work for whatever reason. Currently my most used method is as @Charlo-VR ‘s.

Perhaps someone has another method. I’m also thinking, trying to conceptualize something like a fishing rod holding the cable at the back of my seat, but I’m not there yet.

550 cord hanging from the ceiling offset about a foot to the left, cord never touches the chair, nor my back.  Hated getting it fouled in the chair and back.

whatever you do, be careful not to pinch the cable. i had to get a replacement one for my G2 because of the way i had the cable suspended behind my seat so that there was no resistance on it when i moved.

I'm using some kind of a retractible badge attachment hanging ftom the ceiling:

@Volans, that was exactly the kind of concept I was looking for!

 Thanks!

That would also work quite well @[CPT]Crunch! Since my cockpit is literally under the stairs, this might be the easiest way to achieve what I’m looking for. I may even use bungee cord to give it a bit of “flex”.

I use these. Comes in a set of 6 but I've only needed 3 to get from behind my PC to up and slightly behind my head. They retract as you move around and the length is adjustable. They wrap around the cable with a soft rubber material so they won't damage your cable. Just have to figure out a route between the PC and slightly behind and centered on your head and how to anchor them to the ceiling. I see you have a peaked roof so these will work great for that.

Some fancy solutions here. Mine is simple. The cable goes from my PC up to a metal ring mounted about 6ft up on the wall, and from there down to my headset. Keeps the cable hanging just behind my left shoulder when seated at my desk for flying sims, or PlaySeat for racing sims.

If I want to play a game which is room-scale (rare these days), there is a second loop mounted in the ceiling along the room centre line, and about 2ft from the wall. Using that one gives me full range of movement in a 2.5m x 2.5m area without any of the cable ever touching the floor where it can be stood on.

I use a bungee similar to Volans. I have it attached to the ceiling about a foot behind my chair, and centered. The tension is mostly up, a little bit back, and centered. Makes the world of difference I basically forget about the cable now.

Thanks guys!

I really appreciate you sharing your solutions. All great options! I meant to stop by Harbor Freight (bargain basement hardware/tool shop here in the US) today, so I’ll have much more in terms of ideas when it comes to looking at things in the store instead of just dismissing something because I wasn’t creative/imaginative enough.

To give you a bit more on my setup, the pc is actually behind the monitor (barely visible in the photo) with the back panel (cable connections) facing the wall on my right. So the HMD cable follows the wall and then loops around/through the seat to my left, where its connection to the VR displays are. Since I only play seated, I don’t need much of a lead, but I like the idea of having the cable routed up high (compared to seat) starting near the pc and then drop down to the HMD with a retractible setup is the interference with the seat’s headrest is eliminated. Of course, I can always throw away the head rest if it still rubs, after all, any and all crashes in the sim world injure the pride not the body :)

Thank you again!

I just let the cable of my Reverb G2 hang off my right side and down outside of my chair, and try to be careful and cognizant of it's placement.

Have not really had an issue with it with both flight sims and other made for VR games.

I used a couple of small zip ties to wrap it around the headband to hang it off the right side.

Talk about “not seeing the forest for the trees”!. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best solutions! I think this may work quite well for me as well!

I've never really been pleased that I can feel my VR headset's cable in my chair as I leaned back or brushed against it when I turned my head - but I didn't want to attach it to the ceiling with pulleys, etc. since my work/ home office computer doubles as my cockpit, and I have a ceiling fan directly over head.

I think I have finally settled upon my preferred Reverb G2 cable management when in a sitting position - velcro and magnets for less than $20.

1st, like dburne suggested, I use velcro straps to in two places along the lower rear of the headset strap so the cable drops down over my right shoulder (the plastic clip HP provides broke within a couple of days, which is why I use two velcro straps instead, spaced about 4" apart).

2nd, I bought this two pack of round magnets (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Master-Magnet-10-lb-Round-Base-Pull-Latch-Magnets-2-Piece-per-Pack-96694/203613206) and two of these mini carabiner magnets (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Master-Magnet-45-lb-3-4-in-Carabiner-Hook-07587HD/202639935). Both are smaller than they look in the above.

3rd, I adhered hooked velcro onto the back of the round magnets, then stuck them on two places of my new gaming chair, which has soft fabric that will grab the hooked side of velcro. One round magnet I velcroed just behind the center of my head on the back of the chair, where I can easily reach up and back to feel it. The other round magnet is velcroed to the rear right side of the chair, about even with my shoulder.

4th, I routed the headset cable through the carabiners. It turns out the small ends of those carabiners happen to grip the headset cable just perfectly without pinching or squeezing it (I'm on my second HP Reverb G2 cable after the first one died, so I'm paranoid about stressing this one).

5th, the first carabiner I set at about 23" from where the cable leaves the headset (where my second velcro strap is on the headset). The second caribiner I set at about 14" further along the headset cable.

6th, now after I have positioned my gaming chair in front of my rudder pedals, I simply match the carabiner magnets to the round magnets velcroed to my chair.

If I set the carabiner magnets only half way across the round magnets velcroed to the chair, they have enough magnetic strength to not fall off as I twist and turn my head and upper body, but will detach if I carelessly remove the headset and place it too far away on my desk. In other words, the cable stays out of my way during flight but won't experience any undo strain if I accidentally move the headset off my head and onto my desk.

I use the patented draped across the floor, up my back, trapped under my chair, wrapped around the throttle and general "WTF why can't I move my head!" method.
