Popular Post Jason_Williams Posted September 4, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 4, 2020 Hi, Since there was no Dev Diary today I have gone ahead and just made a raw teaser video of our new, but still Work-In-Progress revised spotting tweaks. I'm not going to go into detail about what we did, but just watch the video. If you see planes flying around then that's good. It's just 13 mins of me in a lazy furball looking at stuff and playing with the FOV and again just looking around. The new spotting regime is wonderful in my opinion and should really squash this issue. You must also remember the specs in which I recorded this video. - 1920x1080 with FXAA and everything else maxed. (FXAA is faster, but quality is not as good as MSAA) - Played on 144hz 4K monitor, but set to 1080 with G-sync on. - Recorded at 1080 at 60fps using DXtory app. - Edited and Rendered in Sony Vegas at 60 FPS 1080p - Uploaded to YoutTube So, you can see that video is not quite the best way to demonstrate these kinds of issues as the quality gets reduced somewhat. In game - it's a great looking scene and this video does not do it justice. The team has really improved this nagging issue. Planes are more easily spotted and tracked, but we maintain a realistic picture and at certain angles and certain lighting they can still be hard to spot against the terrain as it was in real life, but not overly difficult as before. I can easily use any FOV and with the new FOV quick-keys spotting, IDing and dogfighting even without a TrackIR or VR is a snap. Enjoy! Jason 24 21 3 29

40plus Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Hahahaha, I'd laugh extra hard if this is the "tease" Would be the best trolling
Hirachi Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Lol code for Climb Mount Niitaka... one can only wish
Lusekofte Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 This mean tricolor. Battle of France next 5
Mitthrawnuruodo Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 If it's Morse code again, "..." is "S". What could that mean?
Dutch2 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 (edited) No, its the new game engine for BoX designed by Asobo. Edited September 4, 2020 by Dutch2
Archie Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 ... in morse code is S so it's either Spanish civil war or Battle of Saipan ?

kestrel79 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Maybe they are just dots to reserve that space in the thread for a later post. Teaser look at Air Marshall? It has to be something different from normal dev updates. I'm excited. The cryptic marketing is working.

Avimimus Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 He said we might get a teaser... and I suppose this qualifies... and I'm not sure whether I should feel disappointed or just excited that there are [...] in the future somewhere. Teasing us with the future potential for teasers?
Atomic_Spaniel Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Good Grief - I can actually see some of the aircraft! 3
Jason_Williams Posted September 4, 2020 Author Posted September 4, 2020 Just as an example of how crappy video degradation can be - at 13:38 I turn on labels to check the distances to the multiple planes I could see in the frame at that point, but in the video they are very hard to see at that instant. So "invisible planes" there are not. Jason 2 1 2
No_Face Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Awesome !But suddenly I'm going to have to find a new excuse to justify my poor level of aerial combat. 1 2
LuftManu Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Even with the video degradation, I am able to make all the contacts in the scene with ease. This thing looks phenomenal. Great work!
DD_Arthur Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 This looks very promising indeed Jason. Thanks for showing us this. btw; for this sort of stuff check out Nvidia Shadowplay. Loads direct to YouTube without the quality loss of editing and compressing.
9./JG52_J-HAT Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Even watching the video in 1080p, not in full screen and with visible quality reductions due to YouTube compression I can actually see a lot of contacts around the Mustang. Looking good! Thanks for that. And also the tracers seem a lot more subtle. 1
JimTM Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Thanks for the demo Jason. I'm really looking forward to trying out the fix when it's ready to go. It will be great to actually see the plane that goes with the flak. Major kudos to the team for this effort.

I've used Shadowplay in the past, but honestly DXtory give me the smoothest playback still to this day. Jason
Requiem Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 I know I and many of us appreciate the early look to see what's coming, so thanks for that. The relative movement was definitely easier to catch while watching. I'm interested to see this in motion myself to check it out without the video compression but it's looking promising in the close range 2

Jason either record in 1440p or higher or upscale it. Other wise YT butchers the quality. but the video looks blurry anyhow. Maybe a low bitrate was used. Dunno. Good insight anyhow. 1
[DBS]Browning Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Youtube issues aside, this looks like you might have nailed it. NICE!

My point was to record it in 1080p which is the crappiest res most play at with the crappiest AA (FXAA) and make a video that demonstrates that even then you can still see other planes. In a higher res with better AA and actually looking at your screen its even better. Jason 9 3 4
SCG_Tzigy Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Super promising. High hopes for similar results in 4k...
[DBS]Browning Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Anyone remember when we had the improved long range spotting and Jason posted a .jpg of the improvements, but no one could see any of the planes in the compression? Well, now it's YouTube compression, which is even worse, but we can see all the planes. Excellent work Jason and team! This is the reason I'm buying Normandy this week. 1
