I don't think we've had a poll on this specifically for CloD. I'm curious myself! Personally I prefer multiplayer but singleplayer campaigns are also lots of fun and I enjoy them. But fighting a person is almost always more fun that fighting with even a really good AI.

I cannot fly without my buddy scream to me: "break break break".

So, multiplayer.

It's not a real dogfight if the opponent isn't also a human. In single player I feel like I'm just fighting against a set of code and that does nothing for me.

I will however occasionally use it for gunnery practice with unlimited ammo against like 30 rookie 109s.

For me it's the opposite. Human enemy are too much like a contest, which weakens the immersion for me. I like the 'impersonal' nature of AI. In war, you don't often think there's a human at the end of your barrel until afterwards.

If the dynamic campaign ever materializes it will hopefully satisfy the SP crowd.

SP for me.  On one hand the AI will never be as good as a human, so in SP some challenge and realism is lost.  MP is also unrealistic because real people wouldn't do what people are doing in MP if they knew they might actually die.

SP for me MP is unrealistic and i am not really an MP player in any game.

Hi guys, I really respect your opinion about SP.

I just would suggest you to give a try to MP mode. Here in CLOD/DWT at the beginning could not be so funny cause people play in "voulching mode" (that mean most of the time you die in the first 40 seconds) but playing with others human is really a beautiful experience.

I'm not talking about shot them down, but about having teammates with who collaborate.

I know that a lot of players are not entering in any server cause of a lot of different reasons, but in my opinion this mean enjoying just 1/4 of the game. I think that everybody should give it a chance.

About realism: I agree with you that most of the people play without carrying of their virtual life, but still there are some events in which lives matter so your behaviour is different.

Is all about finding the right people to play with.

If you want to give it a try, don't hesitate to write to me

I only play MP as I like to fly with other people (as in together in a wing).

Regarding the point about the opposition being too good in MP, that is not always true. Numerous times you can just spot someone flying lower than you, dive on them and shoot them down sometimes without them even seeing you before you shoot. People will also crash on the ground, make mistakes handing you the advantage etc. Like the AI in SP also does. Not everyone is an ace online. I sure am not and get shot down all the time. But also get kills.
Sure, there are many good players online, but they are not the majority most of the times.

I would say the servers when at least half full are populated by people with expertise across the whole spectrum. Like a bell curve. From „was that AI?“ to „how did he do that?“, with most players being average.

To anyone still on the fence, just give MP a try. Choose what you want to do and pick an objective (tank busting, bombing, CAP etc.). Then take off from a rear airfield, gain altitude (>5k m; or maybe hug the ground if you are just going for a ground target) and then proceed to the front. That way you won‘t get shot down at take off or on the field and will be able to better assess the situation before picking a fight or going for your target.
Also try to follow others doing the same thing.

And if you like it, hop onto a TS / Discord channel and try to communicate and fly together.
This possibility to communicate with others on your team and coordinate actions is what makes MP for me extremely satisfying.

To be clear, I flew MP for years but just didn't like the 'contest' aspect. Also didn't care for the emphasis on fighters--air combat squished into fighter combat.

SP because i like immersion, no MP offer same immersion without joining PVP clans for clans vs clans operations and dedicating too much of your life to it.

When MP will offer as much immersion i'll play MP, so not before 5-6 years at the look of it. The actual Team deathmatch is not my fun.

Not to blow my own trumpet but Storm of War offered the most immersive gameplay I've had in any game multiplayer. To beat the airquake mentality and feeling you absolutely have to build in consequences to your actions. Either through limiting aircraft, campaign objectives and interaction and pilot statistics like we did, or by some other mechanism.

Only MP here. I left the SP at the time of Red Baron II (only because internet connections didn't allow it).

I had the most simulative experience with Clod, during the SoW (Storm of war) campaign, before it became 24/7. Coordinating with other 20-30 pilots, being able to escort the bombers and turn back to base, was a fantastic experience.

Unfortunately ATAG server has always been very disappointing, at least from my point of view. Few bombers, continuous vulching and quite poor-skill players, with the necessary exceptions of course. Surely this has ruined my simulation and flying experience, and most likely also of others, who have therefore moved away from Clod.

Something seems to change for the best, such as Op. Sandstorm operation designed by Spiritus. Let's hope it's not too late.

Numbers online are really low, too low...

The Bf 110 event tonight brought the numbers on the server to around 60 - 70 with good action defending and attacking the target airfields (for the group of 110s). That was fun. More „purposeful“ flying and a nice variation from the usual you describe.

Having fights at 7-10km lately also which is fun. We had 6 109s against the same number of Spits, P-40s and Beaufighters just an hour ago. All flying together on their respective sides.

But yeah, I miss the more objective oriented missions in CloD.

I was there with my team-mate. High alt with 2 109. It was nice.

I used to fly a lot of multiplayer on Air Warrior 3, War Birds, Aces High, and a good bit of IL2'46. But having kids and getting back to work has put the squeeze on my time available. Now I enjoy the mission builder in CloD more then anything else, getting to fine tune my experience and set up quick battles to play when I have even less time with a guarantee I will enjoy it since I built it.

To be honest I fly SP because I just like getting into an aircraft and flying.

Multiplayer on most servers is full real and with many veterans of online play out there it's a nightmare getting any enjoyment.

The other thing is for example, let's say the 109. I don't think I ha e ever lasted more than two minutes without blowing a radiator and having to RTB or bail. Now I know this is all about radiators, prop pitch, etc, etc but I find it an exercise in frustration just getting in the air and that really isn't helping the team.

Single Player, no pressure, just straight in, complex engines off and away you go.

Cheers, Mysticpuma
