screamingdemon Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 (edited) Good Day Gents I have lately realized that the prop texture is a little bit off. It appears as a solid shiny disk with sharply defined radius which to me just does not feel right. I noticed on another sim the prop appears to be more convincing and adds a little bit more to the immersion factor. Below is an example. Would anyone be up to providing us with a similarly modified prop texture? PS - Top 2 pic is the better prop texture. Bottom pic is the existing texture in IL2. Mysticpuma Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 Also, if I may add to this topic, it would be great to have a cinematic option for the propeller in slow motion. Currently when the footage is slowed down it keeps the same disk shape throughout.... a blurred circle. It would be nice if when the game speed was slowed down, so was the prop disk. Images from another sim to explain. Full speed: Half Speed: Quarter Speed: one-eighth: one-sixteenth: Just wondering if it is possible to add different prop shapes for different game-speeds. This makes much better screenshots....and it is only a request, thanks, MP 2 5
screamingdemon Posted June 2, 2020 Author Posted June 2, 2020 (edited) I like Mysticpumas idea too (except I think it should not be less that 1/8th texture). Out of desperation I have attached the prop texture from the above said P51 (thanks to Shadoh from another forum). Is it possible to use it on the Spit and if so, how to do it? Tbolt47 Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Would love to see the prop disc improved in the game as it doesn't look great, shame there doesn't seem to be anyway to mod it.

It is easy to change. In each aircrafts texture folder there will be a texture named AIRCRAFTNAME_blr.dds. Most changes should be done to alpha channel. 1

Thats because you have to UNgtp the GTP files. But indeed the whole prop design is rather ridicules made, while forcing the propeller to act properly, the rockers of the engine are moving strangely, think the best way is to make the whole prop not visible during the flight. 1

If that could be possible,(= your idea of prop as an function of the engine revs), only I think thats to complex. Lets start with an invisible prop first. Or make the prop independed from the engine rocker movement. Would be great mod for all the flyers who use the 2 wingers in VR. edit, yes I know about the startup.cfs file Edited April 8, 2021 by Dutch2

T_O_A_D Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 This is one of my last few pet peeves about this game, it's very annoying with the sun at your back, all the other great art work, and a 1950's comic strip propeller.

Hopper64 Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Looks great! Will you be doing the P51 as well? Thanks for your hard work!
nesher666 Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Holy moly Riksen, your MkXIV prop looks stunning on the skin demo footage!!! Please let us know when it is finished so that we can give it a spin. +1 for a future Mustang and possibly a Jug (D-22 and D-28) prop too if you have the affinity and the time.

Hopper64 Posted July 12, 2021 Posted July 12, 2021 Here’s a few flybys in a P51: Great look at the prop in that video.
Rjel Posted July 12, 2021 Posted July 12, 2021 It's always bothered me that the prop animation for the P-51 appears to be for a 3 bladed prop. I'd love to see that changed. 1 1
Danziger Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 You also have to remember that movies, war footage, and airshow footage show the prop disc the way a camera sees it further processed by software and your screen refresh rate. 1
Jade_Monkey Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 (edited) Looks fantastic! I'll check it out innVR, see if there are any issues. If I recall correctly, the devs had to change the original props because they created artifacts in VR. Edit: @41Sqn_Riksen, no download? Edited July 19, 2021 by Jade_Monkey
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Is this available for download yet? I could also test it in vr. I remember screenshot propeller from IL-2 1946! Great work!
Hopper64 Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 I haven’t seen anything for this mod yet either. I’m looking forward to it as well.
E69_Luke Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Spitfire, P-47, P-51, P-38, Tempest, Typhoon... The propeller disc is a big yellow circle seen from the cockpit. It's a mystery why this was never corrected. I know that the tip of the propellers creates that effect and color, but should not be on the whole disc. The first post shows what I mean. External view is ok, but what bothers me is the interior view. I would love to see this modded, and maybe it could be included, as happened to the amazing work of Oyster_KAI or rowdyb00t (as we know since today with the clouds). Looking forward to see what 41Sqn_Riksen can do. Thanks! 1
XQ_Lothar29 Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 I am very aware of how this mod evolves. It would really be a very interesting advance

Stonehouse Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 Riksen hasn't been logged into the forums since Feb 13 2022 so guessing it's dead unless someone else knowledgeable in skinning and graphic art tools has the wip mod files Riksen was using to continue or starts again from scratch. 1
Hopper64 Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 Thanks. That’s disappointing. Looked so much better.
FTC_Riksen Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 Sorry Ive been away for a while and just recently started to fly again (about 2 weeks ago) but I'm afraid the computer I had the files is gone so Im out of luck when it comes to the prop textures. If I get the courage to start testing again, I'll let you guys know ... I'm sorry ... 5

Whatever you do, Please oh dear God re texture the P38 Prop disk to something better in the sunlight and maybe one without a prop disk texture(clear?) at all. It simply ruins flying the P38 for me and I just got a dual throttle and want to fly it badly. Thanks in advance for any help here. S!Blade<><
Vastarien Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 New propellers are better than before but still not great. Maybe it’s possible to improve them further with mods? 1 1
