VR Distortion on WMR - Regardless of refresh rate

Ok team,

I've tested VR in several titles now - including xplane and the beloved IL2 - there is some problem with WMR headsets *specifically in IL2* it seems.

I am experiencing the distortion effect previously known to affect 60hz refresh rates - however this applies also to my 90hz experience.

Again this seems to be only in IL2, and i've also seen a report on the steam discussions referencing the issue.

distortion only in 60 hz for me , image smaller on left optic , back to 90Hz all fine  ?  have you just moved to VR or is this a new problem since an update ?

Which headset?

After some time sleeping the Reverb fromt time to time wakes up to 60hz even if you have set it to 90hz. Double check your hz.

@123UKoxo-uk not new to VR, just a new problem.

@Gomoto i am certain of the refresh rates in both cases. Headset is Samsung Odyssey Plus.

To reiterate - the issue occurs with both 60 and 90hz and only happens in IL2.

So it seems indeed unrelated to the 60hz distortion problems of Reverbs in all applications (That will be fixed in the near future).

As a VR user, there is no way I can id properly without some sort of zoom. I use migoto mode just for that. If the mod is banned, at least give an adequate alternative in game.

VR users will be half blind without zoom. Do not complain about friendly fire afterwards.

yep looks like this game isnt competitive in VR anymore. if they only disabled 2d zoom we'd be back to parity.

hey @YoYo - is this for fast ring insider builds?

Posted

what kind of distortion?

I use reverb and I noticed a big change after the update. Everything seems in a bigger scale. I'd say more realistic

Yes, now this fix is in Insider program, as I know it solved this problem.

its impossible, you have a bug with 60Hz and WMR, Im sure for 100% if you use 1909v of W10.

In DCS is present also but less visible than IL-2.
You can notice it on trees and on horizont (so from distance).

But, just near two weeks ( 26.05.2020 ) and with 20H1 it will be resolved :).

Its neverending two weeks ?

sorry guys but I still don't get what kind of problem you mean @YoYo @Wolfred

"2 different size screen on reverb" mean different size on each eye??

I see perfect, but the scale seems a bit bigger after the last Il2 update yesterday. More realistic

i am on fast ring 19628.1 and still have the problem only with IL2. Could be my own problem, or could be all odyssey+ users, no idea.

The distortion exists at 60hz and 90hz - at least before the patch yesterday. I'll test this afternoon and report back.

no issue with any other sims.

Update: still screwed up and does the damn fish eye lens - this is with steam vr beta, and non beta, steam vr for WMR beta and non beta. 60hz and 90hz as well.

When you say distortion, do you mean it looks like you are cross eyed? Or is it some other sort of distortion. I have the feeling that I am getting frames dropping and stuttering when rolling or maneuvering hard even though the frame rate stays stable. I have Odyssey+

Hi Wulfe,

Its not a performance issue, its sort of like a fish eye lens effect - general image distortion, not even a cross eye effect. Like the whole image is compressed inwards a bit.

sounds like projection model is not adjusted to your HMD. dont know how to fix this.

Hello from Germany,

Since yesterday i have a distorted View in the G2. It is in Cockpit and Menues also. Made no Changes in IL2 or SteamVR...

WMR is 90Hz and Steam VR also 90 Hz

Dont have this in other Games and also had a normal VR-View with IL2 in the Reverb G2 until the Day before yesterday.

I tried a complete new Install of IL2 but no effect...
Any Suggestions what to do?

Cheers, Albert

Are you running the G2 on stock settings (G2 settings I mean, not the game's settings)?

in WMR Stock Settings, in Steam 44% Res.

Reprojection off in both..

I suggest you run the headset at fully stock settings. Put IL2 on "Balanced" and these other settings, see how you get on.

Strange, after starting IL2 i was asked for a new Login (i choosed Steam-Only) the Game-Menu was in english (before i had German ?) and the Distortion was gone...

I didnt change anything in the Settings of WMR, SteamVR or IL2.  The Problem just disappeared

Under the WMR settings -> headset display -> "Experience options" I had set to "optimize for performance".  When I set it to either "let windows decide" or "best visual quality" the distortion in IL-2 is gone!!!!

This is using an HP Reverb G2 @90Hz with Windows version 20H2
