Hi,

I'm doing a coop campaign with a friend but I get no kill count and they all get denied when enter manually. Anyone got that ?

Bodenplatte campaign seems to have a messed up front line starting from 1.10.1944. The lines are messed up completely. Forced to play from November.

We had a power outage and now I get an error message when I go to launch PWCG.  I never updated to the latest version and figure this would be a good time to uninstall and update to the latest version.  Is there an up to date tutorial on the install and setup?  I've grown crappier at  PC stuff as I get older!  Thanks so much in advance.

If you don't want your existing campaigns or config settings

  1. Delete the PWCGFC and/or PWCGBoS directory.
  2. Unzip the latest to install.

If you want to keep your campaigns or config settings

  1. Enter PWCGFC (or PWCGBoS).
  2. Delete everything except the User directory.
  3. Go back to your BoS directory and unzip to install.

PWCG is designed to put all of the user's work into the User directory, separating it from the base install.  Installation is always just unzipping the latest.  Deleting everything except your User directory eliminates the PWCG download files while keeping artifacts that you have made.  Since the download does not have these artifacts they are not overwritten when you unzip.

Hello Guys, I ran into a problem regarding PWCG (current version 16.0.1)

I deleted the old install and carried my campaign over. I played some missions (all went fine) but now I'm getting the bug message "Invalid payload for plane:1"  (I changed the headrest and sometimes the 15mm with the 20 mm option on my F2 without problems earlier). I also installed all the custom skins (generic/non generic) for PWCG.

Reinserting the campaign didn't help and left me with other errors. In the end I made a clean install (carried my campaign over (again) and I could generate a new mission.

This one however was in the middle of the night (opposed to 7:30).

After submitting the combat report I ran into the same error again. (error log is attached)

greetings Al

Hello, I've been having some problems generating missions for a campaign. If I try to start a mission, I get a pop-up saying "WWI France does not support position 3". The mission won't generate after that. This is version 16.0.1 for Flying Circus. I have Vol. I and II even though it doesn't say it on the left.

@PatrickAWlson, it seems like something's not right with the P-47 payload generation - I'm not sure if it's both P-47s or just the D-22.

I often see missions like the following where we're assigned to escort P-47s. They've got an attack ground target assigned, but don't receive any bombs so they just fly to the target, do nothing, and fly home.

I've tested and if given a bomb load they will level bomb. Either a proper bomber or configuring the P-47s for attack would make more sense.

Generated in 16.0.1, but I saw it in 15.x.x as well.

----

By the way, I sent you a couple of pull requests on github if you want to merge those (I'm not sure how often you check those).

Hello there,

I'm having an issue with the generator saying it is unable to find the text log, PWCG is installed in the root Il-2 Folder and Mission logs are enabled in the Starrtup.cfg

Campaign name is a plain string of text "Le Chasseur" (Would the space affect anything?)

The game generates an absurd amount of log files per per mission (almost 140) but PWCG can't find the right one. I can find it so I have no idea what might be going wrong.

Posted (edited)

For anyone experiencing this problemadd the following to your startup.cfg:

text_log_folder = "logs\"

For some reason PWCG was unable to read the files from the root directory and from the FlightLogs directory where the game puts them and this workaround has resolved the "Cannot find mission log" error for me. (Although when I tried to generate a mission with logs already present it did warn me that those files had not been processed... Go figure. Bloody computers.)

You will still have to manually delete the log files from the various folders since Il2 can't clean up after itself.

Edited to improve instructions since I figured out more precisely what was happening.

Hi Patrick,

New user of PWCG here (16.0.1). I've been trying to set up a Me262 campaign on 9/1944, with KG51 stationed at Essen-Mulheim. However, I simply cannot take off. I keep running out of runway. My payload is a single 250kg bomb, with full fuel. I tried the autopilot - it can lift off(with a bunch of tail strikes), but it plows into a clump of trees near the end of the airfield.

Searching this forum tells me that Me262s did have some issues in the past, which were fixed later. Am I doing something wrong here?

Hi Pat,

Another new user user here (16.0.1).

Just wanted to say thanks for the hundreds of hours of enjoyment I've had using your tool. I'm on an older PC and can tune things down much more in PWCG than I can in the stock career. I don't much care for the time skewing that happens when there's too much stuff.

=====

One small "bug" that I'm seeing often that I don't think anyone else has mentioned yet.

I often get attack missions GROUND_HUNT or GROUND_ATTACK where I'm tasked to bomb transport assets or something and the mission description says "preferred target nothing to see here".   I'm seeing "nothing to see here" quite a bit in the descriptions.

=====

I have all of the settings in the simple config set to minimum values, so if I had to hazard a guess, I guess it's because the target that was originally intended (maybe a train or convoy of trucks?) did not get placed because they're being filtered out due to my settings and then you're getting a Null when generating the description?

Salute!  I'll let Pat Wilson give you the definitive, correct answer to the problem you are encountering.  FWIW, here's my two cents.  Sometimes on a Ground Hunt or other mission to attack transportation assets the enemy truck convoy or locomotive + train cars are not at the attack point.  I have generally found that doing a spiraling, expanding search from the attack point usually leads to finding the trucks or trains at nearby town sometimes up to 10 kilometers from the attack point.  Hope that helps.

If it's a ground attack campaign that you are running I would turn ground activity to medium.  Ground units take much fewer resources than airplanes.

@No105_Swoose makes a good point.  A hunt mission will not have the ground units exactly at a mission point.  They will be moving.  You have to find them by following roads or rail lines.

Posted (edited)

I'm a new player so I've got labels turned on to help me out. When I arrive at a target point, all ground enemies in the vicinity (maybe within 5-7km) have a red dot showing me where they are, so it's not a question of eyesight or not being able to spot them. My impression is that there's nothing there that can be attacked that seems to match what the mission goal was.

What I'm reporting though is not so much that I'm not able to locate the targets, it's the text in the mission description.

The "nothing to see here" in the mission description looks like an obvious NullPointer catch on your end and hints at something more serious happening in the mission gen.

If a player sees "nothing to see here" in his mission description, should he scrub the mission?

I'm playing fighters not ground attack, but do get bomb/rocket missions fairly often.

Another question .....

Is there any way to get the AI wingmates to honor the climb altitude of the climb waypoints? They seem to just ignore the target altitude and stay low until the last few kilomters of the Ingress. Which is annoying, because I do my climbs as scheduled and that results in us not flying as a squad/group for a lot of the mission.

Are the results better not using the Climb waypoints?

Unfortunately, I have no control over the AI once it starts flying.  The climb waypoints are there to try to help the flight gain altitude, otherwise you would get straight in to the mission without ever getting to the intended altitude.  All of the waypoints are movable, so if you have a better path then go ahead and move them.  I do this all the time.

Seek and Destroy 1944-11-16.zip Salute!  Flying campaign with Number 41 Squadron (Spitfire Mark XIV) on the Bodenplatte map.  While on high altitude patrol mission in vicinity of Gornichem flight ran encountered a formation of FW-190A8s and engaged them.  I am sure I shot down three.  End of mission results after exiting the sortie in the game only showed two light aircraft destroyed so I only claimed two when I ran the PWCG combat report and debrief.  PWCG results credited me with only one FW-190 but also said I destroyed two trucks around Gornichem.  I realize sometimes the combat results get things mixed up or substitute other objects for the objects you actually destroyed.  Not a big deal but if you could take a look that would be great.  Let me know if you need any other files.  And thanks for all your work with PWCG that has given me hours and hours of flight sim enjoyment.  Swoose

What is in the logs does not necessarily match what the game calculates for its summary.  Not sure why but it is what it is.  If you think something needs looking you can press "report error" and PWCG will generate a zip file with your campaign and all of the logs.  That lets me try to debug it on my end to see if PWCG is misinterpreting the logs.  Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee a match to in game reports.  I have been asking for a mission summary in the logs for 15 years now, but there is none.  I have to piece together everything based on events as they occur.

Invalid payload for plane.

I've had this happen a few times lately on Russian missions flying the LaGG. Error stack trace attached.

The error is possibly happening for some other group and not my own. The same payload (2x100kg bombs) sometimes generates fine without error.

=====

As an aside and on a different topic, I'm very happy today!

I'm new to flight sims and have been playing IL-2 for almost 2 months on an older system. I decided earlier on, that I didn't like that time dilation thing they do when the load got too heavy. So I decided that whenever it happened, I would just tune down the action until my PC could handle it. End result was being unable to play the Career mode in the game at all and playing PWCG with all the options tuned way, way down. Small flights, only 1-2 other flights, no atmospherics. It started getting boring.

About a week ago I decided to get Wings Over The Reich to try something else. It's awesome. In my first mission, my flight had 12 planes and we all took off together. Met up with 8 bombers, got jumped by 10 Hurricanes. I loved it. Sometimes the FPS hit 30, but for the most part frames were good.

That made me realize I can actually play pretty comfortably at 30 FPS, so why did I need IL-2 to have that option where it says "Try to deliver 60 FPS"???

Went to IL-2, turned off that Target Frame count and the time dilation thing off completely. Started up a PWCG with the options cranked up quite a bit. Worked like a charm. Stock careers are also playable now. Frames don't even dip below 60 all that often. Horrible new user experience for weeks just because of the default value on that Target Frame Count setting.

I'm super interested in buying Wings over the reich. I play Wings over Flanders fields a lot and seeing the Battle of France addon also makes me wanna buy it. How is the flying physics? I know it's not comparable to IL2 but is it any good?

It's not bad. It's more of a game than a sim in some parts. Takeoffs/landings are a lot easier. Stalls on the 109 are as expected. Pilots redout/blackout according to excessive G forces. I found it very good to practice formation flying on patrols since the AI is predictable with respect to speeds/turn angles. I got nowhere with that on IL-2. I played WotR for a week and then came back to IL-2 and I was forming up with the AI without any problems. I also got used to using my rudder a lot more in WotR and that carried right over into IL-2 as well and made me much better in combat.

If you play Flanders Fields, you're pretty much already used to the engine.

Highly recommended. Just finished a great patrol mission and my heart's still racing.

Also i noticed there is an official 56 SQN skin but it does not show in skin management. Any idea or link to fix it? Appreciate.

Hi @PatrickAWlson - I received an AAR error last night (attached) in a new FC 16.0.1 Campaign.  It happened after I submitted the claim for 2 kills (actual A/C shot down "German" F.E. 2b and Halb DII) - claim was made for EIII and Alb CII.  Thank you!

Latest PWCG installed.  Started flying the USAAF campaign, June 1, 1943 using the P-47D-22 out of Chailley.  3 missions in and in every mission all aircraft lined up to take off are offset to the right.  The left hand planes are in the middle of the runway and the right hand planes are on the grass to the right of the runway, just like the graphic put up by Timo_McDaniels above.  The end of runway marker "T" is offset to the right of the runway.

Also any chance in the future that the UI includes the option of displaying Imperial Units instead of just metric units at least for allies in campaigns in NW Europe.

I have also noticed both two plane and four plane flights fly so slow to and from the combat areas well below Maximum Continuous Power Setting of 2550 RPM and 42 MAP for the P-47D-22.  The flights are always traveling slower than the posted waypoint speeds (imperial units).

Mission 3 was extremely challenging to complete with the element getting jumped by higher A-5's with the P-38's nowhere to be found to help out.  Had to run in the direction of England to survive because all four 190's went after me allowing my flight lead to continue on to the target unimpeded.  When my pursuers broke off and headed back to France only then did the P-38's engage them which allowed me to turn around and head back to the target to complete my mission (knocked out a train) and on the return to base knock down a 190 JABO crossing the English Coast after having attacked an airfield in England.

Lots of fun so far.

Thanks

I'm having a lot of trouble in FC with any Balloon based mission. Namely, there is never any balloon there! This is for both bust and defend missions. I am wondering if you have to have CPU intensive units set to a certain level in the editor? Here's a video showing me looking all around the area for a bustable balloon and not seeing one:

Here's the mission file:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OZRf9ZUNN8GKEwCJPyIXLPnIRmzbXb-V/view?usp=drive_link

msnbin:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CpbWD-ayAzYw4tjAQGX3nebg_0rwj-SW/view?usp=drive_link

Separately, I am getting a lot of this error:

vlcsnap-2024-08-06-16h20m03s396.thumb.png.d484e4a4b69f605aee0ac134f5803f9a.png

all over 1918 in multiple squadrons and for multiple countries. I have to scrub the mission and regenerate, which is fine but it does happen very frequently!

Thank you!

Hey all,

I've encountered a weird bug / AI issue in my campaigns. Whenever a flight of bombers loads in they immediately form up and fly straight back to their territory. Then they will turn around and complete their mission as normal. This problem is especially annoying on larger maps like Normandy where the frontline is far apart. But I've also had it occur on Bodenplatte missions (flying as the Germans because they always get intercept missions). This results in my friendly AI RTB while I circle an area and wait for the bombers to return. This occurs with mods both enabled and disabled.

I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this issue or found a fix? It may be a case of making a fresh install but I'd rather do this as a last resort.

Let me know if you need anything extra to help find/fix the problem.

Thanks!

I have had this exact same experience. It’s especially strange when they spawn halfway across the channel.

I am assuming that you are flying an intercept mission.

Hard to be sure exactly what is happening here, but I have an idea.  Seeing a bomber flight spawn and RTB is normal behavior.  You encountered them on the return portion so they are flying home.  They will not have a bombload at this point.

The error comes in when they decide to resume a mission.  It is possible that they are close enough to the target waypoint to trigger the attack sequence even though they are outbound.  How not to trigger the attack sequence on outbound legs might be tricky.

Your flight should not be returning to base.  I don't think intercept missions are any different than patrol missions.  You fly the planned route and that's it.  Another thing to lok into.

If you have a mission where this happens, please post the mission and eng files.

In this mission as soon as the bombers rendered in, they head back towards England. My flight completes the patrol without encountering anything (because they are halfway back to England). Once they reach the allied frontline, the bombers turn around and head back towards France. Their escort fighters rtb (I'm guessing low on fuel). They fly over a few towns and then turn around to rtb (I never saw them drop bombs). And I stopped watching after this.

The frontline past December 1942 in Stalingrad is completely broken. This also happens in bodenplatte map somewhere in November, I have also encountered this on the Moscow map but that was a while ago. I am on 16.01 BOS.

I have attached the pictures both zoomed in on the map and zoomed out. It is quite game breaking.

I have also attached a link to the zips.

Hi Patrick, I have an issue with PWCG . Some times the programm shuts down by its own..it dissappears from the screen and I have to reload it again.

Aslo when I fly some single play missions with me 262 and have enabled autopilot from the start till the end and flying the designed in the map course i don't find any enemies at all on that course ( enemy aerial activity has been set to medium). Thank you in advance!

Thanks Patrick! I forgot to include the actual full ErrorReport zip for the same error I posted above. Hope this helps, np if this isn't needed!

Fixed with 16.1.0

EDIT:

I was able to get the 'WWI France does not support position 3' error for PWCGFC16 to no longer appear while also having giant battles.

Go to a Campaign -> Configuration -> Advanced -> Mission Limits.

Keep 'Max Allied Flights' and 'Max Axis Flights' one number above the Enemy/Friendly flights.

I will be using an Albatros D.Va career as an example:

Mission Limits:

Max Enemy Fighter Flights Generated: 8

Max Fighter Flights for Ground Campaign: 1 - I get the error if I go past 1

Max Allied Flights: 10

Max Axis Flights: 7

Max Enemy Planes: 28

Max Friendly Flights: 6

Min Friendly Flights: 3

Max Friendly Planes: 22

Simple Config:

Air Density: High

Ground + AA: Ultra Low

CPU Allowance: Low

Structure: Low

I have increased Aircraft Numbers substantially with the settings above and have not gotten the error and get excellent performance in VR. My CPU cannot handle more Ground + AA units and maintain 120fps.
